Inspired by discussion happening in other threads, there is some talk about the Japanese interpretation of the lolita "ruides" or guide versus the western.

For example, 10 years ago a newbie lolita might have been told to avoid black/white, cat ears and striped socks even though those are all common staples in the lolita fashion, and not elements that automatically make an outfit not lolita.

Are there any guides on the lolita look from magazines or Japanese resources?

Nobody ever said that "black+white=nogo" but noobs did tend to go for bodyline designs that looked decent in pastels but the worst in black+white, red+black had the same issue, so they were told to avoid these colors until they know their shit about quality.

There are a ton of reasons
1. Contacts can strain your eyes. Especially if you need to wear them for long periods of time, it can head to headaches. More obvious when using computers.
2. Contacts dont let your eyes breath as much (bigger lenses are worse) and so can lead to irritation as your eyes slowly dry up.
3. If you have dry eyes, ^ is more pronounced. Putting eye drops in your eyes is only a temp thing to do and doesnt mesh with makeup
4. More expensive overall. Glasses are a big one time fee but are usable as long as you dont destroy them or get worse eyesight. Contacts dont last forever, and the best ones for your eyes are daily, but are expensive to buy for years supply. Biweekly/monthly are cheaper but lead to issues at the end of their life, so again the other points come back up more.
5. Some people have eye issues that lead to contacts being expensive, especially astigmatism, but other issues. Bifocals for example is more for older people but still an issue that contacts cant deal with as well.

Glasses are far from obsolete, until we get to the point where we have better options that are reliable, glasses are by far the best bang for your buck. Even stuff like lasik has a lot to get better on

As a long time glasses-wearer with moderately bad vision, I really hate the "medical device" excuse. If lolita is going to be your hobby, you really should get glasses that are at least neutral to your style as compared to some awful black rectangles or big grandpa frames a la old girlyhoot. I buy glasses from zennioptical and eyebuydirect for less than 150 with lenses once or twice a year and now I have plenty of different pairs to choose from, depending on my coord.

Sounds like you need to try different shapes of glasses, bud. There's plenty of nice neutral styled glasses in different shapes. You want some rectangles? Try clear acrylic. Those sites only work out if you are not super blind and even then only so much. Having someone fit the lens to your face is a big deal that can easily be messed up online. I wish we were like Japan and had that level of service for glasses because damn they are great.

Also if you have thicker lenses you typically get thicker glasses to hide the thickness, as even with "thinning" lenses it only does so much. Not everyone can do thin or clear stuff.
