A thread for lolitas who collect and admire ball jointed dolls.
What kind of dolls do you collect? Do you dress your dolls in lolita? Do you sew for them? What are your grail dolls? Let’s discuss and post pretty pictures of dolls.

>What kind of dolls do you collect?
MSD BJDs only! I prefer their size (and price) for the kind of cahracter that I write.
>Do you dress your dolls in lolita?
No. My dolls mostly have a mix of Mori and Cyberpunk wardrobe, lol so nothing that actually matches an OTT lolita coord. I'd like to buy a dress / jacket someday for them, but I usually find them too expensive for the size.

> Do you sew for them?
Yes! It's one of my favourite things in this hobby.

>What are your grail dolls?
I prefer not to say to avoid uting myself, but I'd say that my grail dolls aren't produced anymore, and one of the stores which one of them are from has closed.

I'd also like to ask something: What do you think about making mini replica of dresses for your dolls? Like, printing the fabric that imitates the original one and making a dress?

Here's a picture by ClockworkAngel / Silvee

>> No.10402872

>What kind of dolls do you collect?
Dollfie Dreams only.
>Do you dress your dolls in lolita?
Depends on the doll. Some are definetely not lolita type girls so I don’t make them wear lolita.
>Do you sew for them?
Very much, mostly cosplays.
>What are your grail dolls?
DDdy 2B at the moment. I would absolutely make her wear lolita.

I'm not a BJD owner but on the note of making mini replicas I really want to get into dolls one day to do just that. Make a small version of myself and have it match me or my coords! I remember people saying in threads a while ago that sweet brands like BABY often don't mind this when done with things like Kumyas and all so they may be fine with the exposure of it being showcased on BJDs too!

>> No.10402890

Kind of a weird question. I admire BJDs a lot, but everytime I think about getting into them, I spend the money on clothes for myself instead. Kind of like I'm looking for an outlet for fashion but why not just dress myself up instead? So that's what I end up doing.
Does anyone else feel this way? People who have dolls, do you use them as like a fashion avatar? Or am I really missing the point?

I like to dress my dolls in coords that I myself wouldn’t be able to wear. Like if I have a very OTT outfit in mind I would just sew it for my doll instead of sewing one for myself and having no occasion to wear it out (I live in the middle of nowhere in a small country).

>What kind of dolls do you collect?

Mostly SD 1/3 range, though occasionally 1/4. Most are Volks Super Dollfie, one Dollfie Dream, a couple Unoa, DOD, and a couple are other small brands.

>Do you dress your dolls in lolita?
Yes. They are how I got into Lolita. I own BSSTB and AATP outfits for them. Many of my dolls dress in other types of JFashion, including Aristocrat and Fairy Kei.

> Do you sew for them?
No, but I do commission designs for seamstresses. My primary crafting for them is photography.

> What are your grail dolls?
I own most of my grail dolls, so the only ones I need to still obtain are some specific Volks dolls and a couple more Unoas.

> What do you think about making mini replica of dresses for dolls?
I actually really respect those who can make replicas of 1:1 fashion or art. It takes a lot of dedication to make the replicas. My ethics are okay with this because the original artists lose no money. If someone were to make a replica of like BTSSB SD10 Cinderella dress that came with Volks Luna would not be okay; I’m as against that as I am against casted replicas I’d the dolls. Lolita replicas for dolls is like fan art.

I like dolls in general, so mine is part decorative doll part fashion accessory. Some people use their dolls as a creative outlet for characters/stories they write. It's kind of an expensive hobby to half ass, so don't force yourself to get into it just because you like the idea of dolls. There are lots of dolls I love, but I have no intention of actually owning them. I just admire owner photos of those dolls instead. It keeps my collection smaller and higher quality (since I can spend more of my hobby budget on each doll instead of trying to spread the same budget out over way more dolls). There's not really a point. It's a doll. It's cute. It has cute clothes. It looks cute in photos. The end.

MSD size, I got an SD size but it was too overwhelmingly big to me and I sold it. Usually fantasy themed dolls too; I have an angel, mermaid, and demon so far!

No, I shell my OCs into dolls and none of them wear lolita; I'm of the mindset that I can just dress myself up in cute clothes instead

I have no sewing skills whatsoever so no, but they're shells of my OCs so I draw for them!

Dollfie Dreams only, I own three DDS and two MDD. I'd like to get some indie artist BJDs in the future just as display pieces, preferably some that feature body horror or weird/creepy anatomy.
>Do you dress your dolls in lolita?
Sort of, it's kinda on the line between lolita and historic dresses. Many of the readily available bjd-sized "lolita" dresses are ita so I'm picky.
>Do you sew for them?
I'd like to but have never actually gotten around it.
>What are your grail dolls?
MDD Etheldreda because I love edgy eroge girls and white skin is my favorite DD skin color option (shame it was discontinued). I'd also like to own a custom MDD from some of my favorite Japanese or Chinese faceup artists.

Theres not really any point to BJDs. Some people just collect, some people aggressively mod, some have on display, some people even forget they have one or two, some people take it super fucking seriously and will date their dolls or some shit,
.
Theyre too fucking expensive for there to be specific rules on what to do with them.but the way i figure is if you dont have an idea for what to do with it have a faceup done then go from there. Dont think about it too mcuh.

There are people who make bjds but the process of making them is pretty complex and you won't be able to make them out of resin unless you own the materials to cast them yourself. If you aren't super experienced with sculpting and you don't know the ins and outs of a bjd (including how to string a bjd), it's better for you to save up and buy a basic doll and RM clothes and wig for the doll.

has anyone ever accessorized with something other than a bjd? I have really nice plushes, and I was thinking about carrying one to coord with.

Imo plush pochettes and purses are fine, especially if they’re a brand mascot like the Kumyas, but carrying a normal stuffed animal around gives off ddlg vibes and looks weird.

I'm still so salty about loosing the lottery to the mana doll..

Anon, that's the primmest looking bird toy I've ever seen. Where do I get it? I simply must have it.
>>10412895
Turn one into a bag. I'm sure thee are tons of tutorials out there for doing so.

The price must be insane on the 2nd hand market. How much was it?

Join the BJD doll selling groups. Sometimes you can get a good deal or trade.

Why is this thread more alive than the toy one?

it's the same thing and normies will think you're ddlg either way

Because people here didn't kill the thread by sperging about recasts the second they were mentioned, like /toy/fags do

I think that some creatures made for adult collectors, like the Piglette collection, can work without looking too childish, especially if you were wearing a more mature coord

carrying a doll around is just gonna get you more looks and bog you down anon. Dolls aren't really an accessory anyway, it's a collector's/artist's hobby that happens to overlap and get used in photoshoots sometimes.

a pochette is literally a plush with a string and a pocket wtf

I'm with >>10412895, the bag having straps (sorry. string) and a zipper/snap, or seeing you put/take something into/out of the bag/pocket is usually enough for most people to go from "wtf why is this mental case carrying a kid's toy around for no reason whatsoever" to at least "fashion is so weird, I don't understand fashion stuff" territory.

It's still weird, but one is definitely much, much, much weirder than the other.

stop being so insecure. how tf do some of you function? how are normies supposed to not only know what ddlg is, but to be able to discern loli appropriate stuffed animals?

Plenty of normies know what ddlg is thanks to idiots not being able to contain their kink on social media. People I know who are complete normies have even seen Belle Delphine and her trying-to-look-as-kiddy-as-possible porn on accident.

It doesn't have anything to do with DDLG lmao. Normies just need an explanation why you're randomly carrying around a pointless object. When they see a strap and see you take/put things in/out of the bag, they'll accept it's a uselessly cute bag. Without that function, the assumption is you're a total weirdo.

You can do a search on old egl.livejournal.com, there's at least one post also talking about posing with random dolls/plushies, with a lot of girls expressing how weird it is to carry it around all day for no reason.

I'm a BJD owner, which was the original topic of the thread. Sometimes we don't bother packing the dolls back into the carriers when we're just moving from one cafe to another next door, plus there are doll bags that look like large plushes. People still stare because you're carrying a doll around, whether or not the doll is dressed like you. Heck I have a medium-sized TWEWY plush and even that attracts attention until folks realise I'm carrying a whole bag of cartoon anime merch. People just need a reason for why you're carrying around a random object. If, let's say, you were into retro mod fashion and you carried around a record player to match Meta's Vintage Player series that would still be equally weird.
