Do any characters inspire your style? Who are some of your favorite fictional lolitas?

>> No.10420529

gonna get shit for this but whatev's:

So first off, I didn't get into lolita because of anime or some other japanese medium. I actually started buying lolita after visiting cgl a few times like 6 years ago or so.

But I don't have a favorite lolita character because I don't really consume any kind of media that has lolita in it. I wish I did, even though I kinda can't stand anime?
Like, I really wish that there was a more relatable story about a girl who's a lolita.

Maybe I'll get off my lazy ass and write that one day and maybe even convince some girls to film it with me.

>> No.10420573

Lolitas in media that are created by real lolitas. I honestly haven't felt "inspired" by anything lolita in media since Dokuhime, and that was years ago. I fell in love with lolita after seeing scans of G&LB, so I sure wasn't inspired by anime/manga. I find it really hard to relate to lolita characters, even in mangas that are usually reccomended, like Othello and X-day, lolita is never treated just like normal clothing or hobby you are passionate about, but something that you get into because of your problems, and at the end when these are resolved, lolita just kinda fades. Girl from X-day wore it for one scene, Othello MC wasn't even a lolita iirc, and she stopped wearing it completely at some point in the manga.
Every other instance when lolita has some sort of character arc it's always the fucking same, "I am a quiet girl with no pesonality, but I can always escape to lolita", making it some sort of an escapist safeplace, or even worse they just make lolita girl into a chunnibyo, who spouts about being literally Satan.
Best lolitas in my opinion are always background characters, usually in shoujo, who just exist and do whatever with other mobs, if they try to give them arcs it all falls apart.

That's not what I meant at all.

I mentioned in my post that I don't really consume Japanese media. I don't watch anime or read manga. I have no interest and it's not relatable for me.

I want something that's more western animation. Or just plain live action. Or a good novel.
That doesn't seem to exist.

>Like, I really wish that there was a more relatable story about a girl who's a lolita.

When people say they can't stand anime more often than not it's because they only have a view of it as over the top sex filled garbage or made for literal 10 year olds which to be honest, 90% of it is that. The manga presented is a very down to earth story with elements that lolitas around the world can relate to. Saying that you wish you did enjoy it comes off as someone who would like to take an interest in it but hasn't found something that they would like. Sorry for misinterpreting by trying to help.

Ok, but when I said I can't stand anime, I meant it. And it's not because it's sex filled garbage. Its the voices they use and the choppy animation and how everything is usually styled the same way and the stories always have that hint of Japanese culture that I just don't care for.

I really just like Japanese fashion and their food.
Everything else about their culture is whatever to me. I like the artwork but I don't want to read a manga or watch anime.

I appreciate you trying to help but I also closed my original post by stating that because what I want doesn't exist, I'd have to make it myself.

So if you really want to help, you're welcome to throw out story ideas or things you'd like to see done in a more western adaptation of a lolita story.

Not what I said at all.
I have a hard time relating to most stories and I actually don't consume a lot of fiction. I read more non-fiction.

Also I'm not close minded about an entire type of animation. Everyone knows Miyazaki is amazing ok?
My Neighbor Totoro is a fucking great story and flim. I also enjoyed Eflen Lied which I don't know who made that but I liked the series.

Anyway.
My point is more that I just wish there was something OTHER than anime/manga for a lolita story.

Everyone seems to keep missing that point and instead taking super fucking offense to not liking anime and manga cause they just loooove it so much.

You can read non-fiction, but that doesn't leave you with much exept for biographies and actual scientific works on the concept of lolita as a whole, and you didn't say anything to make it seem like you are a person with abilities to write such a work. Had you just proposed some ideas on your own first, no one'd have had any problems with you. At this point all you've done was dismiss all recommendations for the sole reason of not liking the media, without giving an example of what you want to achive. If you want non-fiction essays, you have Novala, So pretty, very rotten, and a few by Misako and other lolitas, as well as interviews. The problem with them is that not everyone is able to relate to real people the same as to fictional characters. Fiction is a way to better communicate your core ideas to the audience. I'm not sure if you even want to write fiction or not, because as I said, you give no ideas of your own.

What? No, there's all kinds of stuff out there, it just isn't lolita related. I was just saying that's what I mostly read because the other anon was raising hell about me supposedly needing to relate to EVERY thing in a story. Which I responded to accordingly.

>you didn't say anything to make it seem like you are a person with abilities to write such a work.
You're right, this isn't my blog. I just wanted to have a discussion about how there is a lack of media related to lolita aside from the usual anime/manga stories.

>without giving an example of what you want to achive.
Not true. I said western animation or even live action.

As far as my own ideas go? Well I don't want to go into detail but I wouldn't mind a non hetero lolita romance story. I would also appreciate some non-fiction stories about lolita that aren't just YouTubers telling their life story.

>Fiction is a way to better communicate your core ideas to the audience.
I mean, maybe for some people. My roommate is very much this way and is just all about fiction because they use it as a form of escapism.
I don't care about fiction that much but I don't mind it. I just mostly read non-fiction when I do read because I find it more interesting than made up stuff.

However, if there were books about lolitas that were fiction and are not the usual manga about the topic, then I would be interested in reading those books.

I love that idea! I hope you write it and I'll give you a little advice from David Cronenberg.
Just write anyway. Don't think about the cost of what it would take to bring something to life. Wait until you get to that point to worry about it. You'll never even get to that point if you let that worry hold you back.

Basically, just write the most fantastical shit you can about a dysfunctional comm. And then when the time comes to turn it into a play, you can look into the resources needed to put together something like that. You won't just be thinking about wardrobe cost. You'll be the thinking about venue cost, equipment cost, getting actors, etc.

That's the big leagues though. Gotta write first.
And please do this. I'd love to see a play like this.

Now I'm getting into this.
Aristo and EGA that continuously fight with one girl who says they don't get to be part of the comm.
Someone tries to purposefully spill something on someone's dress only to spill it on themselves. They try to make the other person out as the bad guy. They tell every new girl about it until the comm splits. Then when the original comm is nothing but itas that don't pitch in for tea party venues, they try to join the new comm. The response is a musical mockery and a massive Get Fucked.
Musical ends with the first song sung again without Cat Ita.

To be honest, I was kinda introduced to lolita fashion thanks to old/classical shojō animes such as Candy Candy, Lady Gwendoline, Lady Oscar and Georgie, and also thanks to illustrator, manga and artist Macoto Takahashi (pic related).
Not exactly lolita but the clothes worn by the characters somewhat matched the fashion and aesthetic.

Nana is the only manga I've ever enjoyed because the characters aren't stupid socially awkward faggots like 99% of anime. It can get a bit melodramatic plot-wise, but it truly feels like a friendship between adult women rather than highschool children attempting to be cool.

the girl in this story is an embarrassing doormat who can barely function as an adult besides looking shocked and sweating profusely. this is like 99% of manga because the people who make them tend to also be weird socially awkward otaku that can't function normally.

The game yes and the show came out 2011. Then came all the idol shows like AKB48, Love Live, Aikatsu, that Prism series, Uta Prince, and more. It's just the market became over saturated with it like isekai oversaturates anime today. It doesn't make them bad, idol and isekai shows have been around forever but when you're looking through seasons to watch something and most of it is one genre leaving the others to rot...it's annoying and has left a bad taste in my mouth.
