I'll start. Can I get some storage advice? I'm having some trouble hanging this baby (pic related). Right now it's on a couple padded claw hangers but due to all the loose layers and the weight I just don't feel that's efficient/safe enough.

Recently purchased milky berry jsk, my plan for washing it when it gets here tomorrow is what I do for all of my wardrobe (front load washer: cold water, handwash cycle, gentle detergent in a delicates mesh bag) and probably 2-3 color catchers. Is there anything else that can help it not bleed so much onto the rest of the print? Will it always bleed? Basically I want to minimize the bleeding as much as possible and then not have to worry everytime I wash it, since this print is known to do so. Wondering if anyone has any tips, thank you.

>> No.10451273

>>10451206
once it's been washed for the first time, it shouldn't "continue" to run excess red dye - as in, it should bleed like hell the first wash and then not so much if at all when you wash it again
or if it was dry cleaned, then the ink would have been heat-sealed, and shouldn't bleed

would still always wash it with a color catcher from the second wash onwards, just in case. which I do regardless of any lolita printed dress, you never know, and color catchers are cheap anyways

Some of it will be generic tips, such as your body shape and what clothes are flattering. So if you have broad shoulders avoid things that make them look bigger, if you have large breasts the babydoll high waisted cuts look bad on you, etc.

Once you know what your body type looks like, then you can compare with others similar to you, like if you are tall and lanky look at other tall and lanky ppl.

Like >>10451527 said, your best bet is to find other lolitas that look like you and dress well, then copy them until you get the hang of it.

The only thing I can add is it may be helpful to build frankenlita references. For example, I’m 5’7”, average weight, have large shoulders, huge calves and a smaller waist. Since it’s hard to find people who look exactly like me (as I imagine it is for anyone) I wind up looking at plus size lolitas for blouse and legwear ideas, people on the tallish side with a similar chest/waist ratio for skirt and jsk ideas, etc.

Kanji is Chinese, but have different readings. Several of them will have the same meaning in both languages or close to it. If your end goal is to read/understand Japanese, then learning the meanings of Chinese characters alone won't help that much. Japanese has hiragana which comprises a lot of the sentence structure, so you'd only understand some words if they happened to be the same, but you wouldn't understand any "meaning."

learn hiragana fluently first so you can use furigana to learn the kanji as well as doing radical practice. like other anons said the kanji isn't the same as chinese. japanese includes compounds of kanji and hiragana as well as multiple kanjis so the reading overlap is only going to be for simple nouns like person and moon. you'll need to practice radicals alot as well as trying to translate things to actually learn well.

It's actually super helpful. I know Chinese and all my Chinese classmates have a huge leg up on the others. Helps not only with the meaning, but with the Japanese pronunciation too. Makes Japanese much easier, although it obviously won't get you all the way. Basic Japanese sentence structure understanding + Chinese can get you surprisingly far though. Even my Chinese relatives who never took Japanese can understand signs and the gist of some sentences as long as they're not written by elementary school kids (i.e. not entirely hiragana).

The anons going off about radicals and shit clearly have no experience with Chinese, don't listen to that. Knowledge of Chinese already comes with all the radical knowledge you'd need for kanji, plus you won't even need the radical knowledge because you'd already know all the kanji itself. The few characters that are different between kanji and Chinese are similar enough that most of the time it's negligible (i.e. some kanji are the simplified Chinese version, or an in-between simplification that's still plenty recognizable to a Chinese person)

All this also goes in the opposite direction too of course. I've met a few Japanese people learning Chinese and they have a much easier time than white people learning Chinese.

you're literally the only person in the universe who thinks this. chinese is only helpful for 200 nouns or so and only a few words have similar pronunciation (like watermelon) if anything chinese makes it more confusing because you have to relearn the words. nothing useful about only being able to pick out basic words.

That's exactly what I'm saying. You'd already have done all the radical learning if you learned Chinese first. There's a lot of overlap.

.>>10451898
>only a few words have similar pronunciation (like watermelon)
A lot of nouns have similar pronunciation, many are commonly used, and almost all onyomi follow certain patterns of pronunciation conversion. Even with kunyomi, Chinese still helps with understanding (especially connotations), reading, and writing, and you'd almost never have to memorize how to write kanji for Japanese class.

I never said Chinese was a replacement for properly learning Japanese if Japanese is the end goal. It's not a replacement. They're two different languages. You weebs want to learn Japanese? I hope this is okay to post here:

I just got a baby dress second hand in a light blue colorway and there is a lot of yellow on the print. (Border print.) Two areas of yellow on the border clearly bled... a lot. So now there are two giant blotches of yellow and it looks like a dingy brownish cloud around them. Each run is about 6ish inches/15cm and about half as wide, so big blotches.

Does anyone have experiencing fixing color bleeding with baby, specifically for yellow on another light color like light blue?

I am terrified to try to wash the dress since it's clear it bleeds but I feel like I have to maybe at least treat/wash the affected area? Other than color catcher sheets and oxy I don't know what else to do?

I made a PayPal claim against an indie brand because they took over 4 months to finish my order (they kept telling me they'd be done sooner and never were, all the while advertising their other custom items for sale) The initial estimated date was only 1.5 months.

A couple days after I escalated the claim, they messaged me outside of PayPal and gave me the tracking of my order. I said I rather have a refund, but if they shipped the items I needed to keep the claim open until I received them. They went ahead and shipped the items, unfortunately.

Today PayPal gave me my money back. The package is still in the mail. I don't know what to do. I don't feel like it's my responsibility to contact the seller again. They must have never responded to the PayPal claim (even though I put a note on PayPal that the seller had shipped the order and I wanted to keep the claim open until I got the items, PayPal apparently just decided to give my money back.)

I have half a mind to just keep the money if the seller doesn't say anything. But I know that's immoral.

That's actually a good idea, but almost all the postal workers in my area are just leaving packages without knocking/getting signatures due to covid (I'm not even sure mine requires a signature, honestly).

In the case the tracking number says "delivered," I'm hesitant to return the items to the post office, because I'm under the impression that the tracking stops updating after it's marked delivered, even if it gets returned. I think the indie seller might also be able to appeal the claim, so I might lose out on the money and the items if I send it back without a tracking number.

Ugh. Sorry for being clueless.

>>10453481
nayrt but the last time I ordered tea parties from HoneyCherry, the heart label no longer said "Secret Shop" (it was just blank) and the shoes fit different/smaller than my 4 other pairs. Wet fabric has a lot of weight and will probably cause some damage in the following situations:
- if it's a cutsew dress, it may end up stretching, or distorting at the shoulders where it's held up by the hanger
- If it's a dress with shoulder straps, they may break since the weight is on the straps
- If it has shirred shoulders (mini sleeve dresses for eg) the elastic will likely wear out much faster if you hang it up by the sleeves
- If there is a portion of the dress that's cut on the bias (ie the print runs diagonally rather than up and down in some places) they may stretch out over time

Some girls run them in the tumblr without heat to try and get as much liquid out of the dress before hanging them up.

Best if you just get one of these and clear a little space so that you can lay them out for a day or two to dry. They fold up so you can put them away.

Tights are usually more expensive, so if they were some brand print I'd contact the seller and ask for a refund on the price difference first, then rate the transaction from there.

It's possible to mistake OTKs and tights if they were the same material, especially if they bought it secondhand (weren't paying enough attention) and the packaging was never opened to check either. I also had a taobao shop send me (print) OTKs instead of tights as well (I opened everything as soon as I received it, otherwise would not have noticed it either. Both tights and OTKs have the same packaging, just one is thicker than the other because there's more material on tights)

If you cba to contact them again, weigh the transaction based on other matters. I'm way more concerned that they apparently take forever in their communication. If their terms of sales do say they're busy and may be a little slow, then I'd leave them a neutral. If they don't say anywhere that they take longer than usual, then I'd leave them a negative.

For negative/neutral feedback, be way more detailed. Do mention both the good and the bad things in your feedback (eg the item is in the condition it was described in, or packing was decent, at least you did get your item so it's not a complete scam, etc). This helps other buyers to decide if they still want to deal with that seller, but also helps you not look like a vindictive buyer.

Does anyone have experience modding a dress? And when I say modding, I guess I mean more like "deco'ing." I remember someone saying once they bought a Twinkle Mermaid that they thought had been embellished by the previous Japanese owner.

I snagged a $30 AP JSK from CC and got all the stains out, but the print is still very faded and it's not really a popular print. I'd love to replicate some AP runway looks where they added ribbons, etc to some of their dresses, but I know I'll get chewed out for it, no matter how "good" it might look. I've never been able to consider doing this with any other dress, but this feels like an opportunity.

I'm usually a burando purist. I don't like altered brand, but this piece is different because it's on its way out. Nothing is structurally wrong with the dress. I don't plan on selling it after I decorate it, I'm mainly just wondering how weird people will get if they notice it's been... added to.

Special set is a bit special. The number of girls seeking it is fewer than the number of girls seeking sax blue (ie it's less popular), but because the special set is truly limited then the pricing for special set blue is much higher than the pricing for sax blue. So the special set blue is ranked above sax blue in pricing but below it in demand. Hope that makes sense?

I tried. the fabric got rough, and the blouse didn't whiten as much as the lace. Suspect the blouse to be a poly-cotton blend while the lace might be proper cotton.

Also important to note that bleach is notorious for behaving badly with polyester, so you'll really want to watch out for that. The thread used to sew your cotton items might be all polyester and come out a different colour, or disintegrated entirely.

(backstory no one asked for: the kicker is that I wanted and ordered an ivory blouse, but the thing that arrived was too dark to be ivory. Bleaching only turned it into an ivory blouse with white trim, so it didn't even work properly)

Be prepared for the security inspection, don't wear unnessecary metal accessories and wear comfortable shoes because you might have to take off your shoes off. Book the seat next to the corridor. In case someone obese next to you, it won't be as uncomfortable. I don't recommend max poof for that reason as well. Maybe wear a deflated petti and keep a foldable hoop skirt in your suitcase.
