Artist Alley. It was half the reason I bothered to go, I like spending money on dumb stuff like keychain, stickers, posters and stuff made by the common folk. It was always a fun hunt to try an find original stuff and not fanart too.

Honestly, I just kind of fly solo and meet people along the way.
A little booze, and an interesting cosplay helps as a social lubricant and to get people to want to hang out with you. But mostly just going to panels and talking to people with similar interests as you.

I don't miss anything about cons at all. Every con I go to, I can't socialize for shit and make any friends. I spend a ton of money on a hotel room and food just for myself. I just go to cons to people watch and buy stuff.

I miss seeing my con-only friends, going out for good food and drinks, and general shenanigans. Some of these people I only see at conventions. I really miss them.

I'm pretty much an introvert, but I'd get my social meter overfilled at cons. I'd come home and not want to deal with people for a week. By the time the next one rolled around, I'd be happy to see people again.

I normally work from home (freelance and remote webdev/design) so getting more social interaction than just immediate family and co-workers is a bit rare. It's hard for adult schedules to line up, so I rarely see local friends. Cons were just good for this, my local friends were most definitely at the local cons.

I will say when cons return, I'm going to say "fuck it" and cosplay the shit I've been putting off for years because of self-confidence issues.

Last year i drove with 2 of them to anime weekend atlanta, we endured a total of 1,600 miles together.

I should say something, but I don't really know, because every con experience is so different. I could say meeting cool people, but there's been so many cons I've been to by myself without meeting anyone. So I can't say it's a true part of the con experience.

When I think logically about it, most of the good stuff at cons is only good for a few minutes before you get bored or lonely. Seeing plushies for sales and smelling Japaneseish food is nice, but you get used to it almost immediately.
And while I can remember some good panels, most cons these days have either been running the same panels for years or they're shifting to DnD and social justice focus rather than what I enjoy so they're less interesting.

Maybe I miss the cosplay meetups more. Going to the local amusement park and riding rides and meeting new people, or meeting up in the park in the city and the atmosphere around with people in cosplay, but those activities were dead where I live even before this year, everything is just so much worse.

The best part of a con is meeting some people who are really friendly and fun and spend time with them, and also experience the cosplays and everything else around. But it isn't something I can expect when I go to a con

Planning group cosplays with friends, the panic and excitement of executing them with each of us working on parts of the other's cosplay, and the satisfaction when it not only came out well, but got attention as well
I love meetups, especially for smaller series since I've made friends that way
Also the arcades since that's the only way to play rhythm games in my area
