What do you think of their newer stuff?
What have you lately bought from JM (new or secondhand)?
Do you or anyone in your comm regularly wear it?

I love JM and I think they've been going in a really cute direction lately in their design.
Most of my stuff from JM is older though. I always see really great deals on it, especially nonprint, secondhand.

JM is perfect and amazing but I don’t want more people to become fans because it’s competition for me

>> No.10495697

>What do you think of their newer stuff?
A lot of their newer stuff is boring and overpriced imo. This >>10494578 however is awesome and reminds me again of why I love them
>What have you lately bought from JM (new or secondhand)?
The latest stuff I bought were a few inexpensive secondhand cardigans and boleros.
>Do you or anyone in your comm regularly wear it?
I still do but I think their popularity has dropped. I don't see many people wearing it anymore. The second hand market has become more affordable and that infamous book dress doesn't sell for 100k yen anymore. I'm not mad about this development.

>What do you think of their newer stuff?
I think they released things around 2018/19 that I really loved (strawberry label scarf print was cute af) but I haven't seen much like that from them lately.
>What have you lately bought from JM (new or secondhand)?
I actually just received my first JM item, a cardigan I bought secondhand at the beginning of the year and had sitting with my SS until now. The quality feels really nice but since I just received it a couple of days ago I haven't worn it yet.

I recently also bought a couple of pairs of JM shoes secondhand because they seemed a good price for the condition. I really hope their quality is as good as their original price would suggest.
>Do you or anyone in your comm regularly wear it?
I'm a lonelita and a complete beginner to buying JM. I think I should move on to JM and other toned down brands because I'm getting older and I could wear them more easily to work. I'm starting to appreciate the simplicity of JM more and more.

>What do you think of their newer stuff?
I think most of it is great but unfortunately I dont think I'd pay full price for any of it. Most of their dresses are as much as my rent and I dont make that much senpai
>What have you lately bought from JM (new or secondhand)?
My most recent purchase is a second hand skirt. Veeeery cute.
>Do you or anyone in your comm regularly wear it?
No one in my comm wears JM, which I dont mind more for me!
I wear All of my JM as normie wear & Lolita.
It is great for the office and it fits my normal style (quirky Vintage & Retro styles ) very well.

I've developed a new appreciation for Jane Marple just this month, since I'm returning to work after a long period of time. I got lucky and bought a small haul from CC this week of simple black/grey/navy skirts and cardigans for cheap, as well as a pair of the iconic 4-strap shoes in black for a reasonable price (15k yen). Very curious to see how the quality is.

Is there a specific reason why JM is rather expensive? Are the items and prints high quality? Not a poorfag I'm just genuinely curious.

>> No.10513536

I just got a small haul of JM items from CC today: a few main pieces (all skirts), a couple of cardigans, and a pair of the black 4-strap shoes. Here are my thoughts, for whatever they're worth:

-The quality is good, but not worth the full price - but the prices I paid on CC for them was definitely a good deal.
- I wear a 6.5 US / 37 EU and usually take a medium in Japanese shoes, but I went with a small for the 4-strap pair, and they fit perfectly with enough rooms for thick tights and/or socks. The soles aren't especially soft, and I find the heel a bit hard. I would also not judge these to be worth the full price, though I guess I'll see how they hold up.
- Definitely more flattering on my height/frame (5'3 & petite but not skinny) than most of what I can find on the high street in my country.

So in short: super cute, very good but not amazing quality, and definitely worth buying used.

>>10513536
Thanks anon, this is really useful. I've become more interested in JM recently but most of what I've purchased is sitting with my SS so it's really interesting to hear thoughts on the quality. I have a couple pairs of shoes waiting there but I got them both secondhand for significantly less than retail so hopefully they were worth it. The dresses I got have been wishlist items for a while so I think I'll feel they were worth it even if they are more expensive than my usual lolita purchases.

Does anyone have any favorite JM prints or pieces to share? Since I'm just taking more interest in JM now I still often come across prints and designs I hadn't seen before, so I'd love to see other's favorites.

Nicer sewing, nicer materials, made in Japan.

I don't buy directly from them either because I can't quite justify the $500+ NWT price point with what I'm getting. But they're leagues better quality-wise than lolita brands.

>> No.10517558

I've been eyeing up some JM skirts on Fril but I'm terrified they'll be too small. What kind of sizing do their pieces usually have?

>> No.10517575

>>10517558
It depends. The older the item the smaller. But as a rule of thumb you want your waist below 70cm to fit unshirred JM comfortably. 65-68cm is ideal for recent releases. Pre 2010s desgins run a bit smaller but it's still mostly okay for that waist range and pre mid 2000s you want your waist close to 60 cms. To get an idea for the size the skirts might have I would check out lolibrary and compare to similar designs. Maybe there are even measurements given.

>> No.10517576

>>10517558
Try JM dans le salon, all their items are larger and fit 70 cm waist and over.

Ok here's my assignment.
Jane Marple wearer since 2014.

>What do you think of their newer stuff?
Refreshing. There are some nice understated pieces but then there's a knock out like Alice's Dictionary. Happy as long as their new designs still scream JM. Their older JSKs was around 72cm waist, now it's up to 86cm, a massive plus.
>What have you lately bought from JM (new or secondhand)?
My life is just fril & mercari. But yes, I bought something new last week.
>Do you or anyone in your comm regularly wear it?
Whenever I get a chance to, it's me and my friend from the same comm, but I've been wearing it on my own on solo outings quite comfortably, unlike lolita, you won't need to move in flocks. The rest of my comm are cosplayers or gamers, their cups are full. Also there are a few other lolitas across the state who do small gatherings in Jane Marple outside of their comm.

People who wear Jane Marple, not limited to:
1) Expensive =/= Exclusivity
No judgement here, we've all been there. I'm not talking 'only elitist' wears JM, but some ppl just get a kick from flexing. Your money, you earned it. But those who only do it for attention/likes won't be sticking with it for long. Hype is a hungry beast.
2) The Je ne sais quoi JM ladies get and understand.
3) Toned down but still awesome coords. Many occasions lolitas will opt for JM or other otome-kei fashion if the poof, wigs & whole bananza gets too much for them at meets, as a host, I don't mind this.
4) Vareity is good.
5) Get what you paid for.

Note: I follow more JM Instagram from Japan and other Asian countries than I do the rest of the world, so a decline in popularity from the latter doesn't really affect me.
As long as it doesn't decline in Japan, more of the good stuff for me on 2nd hand market.

Nyart.
Welcome to JM. I can relate, the first time JM was introduced I didn't get it, I thought it was unremarkable and was twice as expensive as lolita main piece. Such a thing of the past now.

I've had a few friends msg me with JM 4 straps questions before, buying new v 2nd hand. New is nice but pricey and not worn in, 2020 edition has decent grips whereas it's predecessors will slip easily tried & tested. Old 4 straps will be worn in, watch out for loose poppers. My gold 4 straps purchased new now 5yrs old is squeeking. But it's an investment being real leather (lolita pleather shoes/bags are already peeling).

Very excited for you getting into JM but hope you won't judge your 2nd hand pieces quality too harshly, JP wearers are notorious for either throwing things into their washing machine, hand wash or no wash at all when it clearly states dry clean only. Pray for the burando.

Size note: As previously mentioned by others, older JMs are small, 2 types of skirts from same print can be 68cm waist or up to 73cm fully stretched elastic waist band. The good news is, 2020 JM has upsized their measurements, chosing to grow with their aging patrons. Watch out for Regimental stripes OPs, unless you've slim arms, it's going to be a struggle lifting them up to do the back zips.

My favourites are Royal Flag, Godard Regimental Stripe, Royal Stamp, Royal Library 2013 and Original Tartan Puritan collar. All of my JM dream dresses are fully acquired now.

Pic related is my favourite. Back in livejournal days this print was very sought after in green but I always preferred this colour. JM didn't release stock photos back then.

I find it interesting that back in in the LJ days things like JM and ETC were as popular as some lolita brands, but now they're pretty much forgotten about. What changed in the western community?

Agreed and also the nature of social media has changed. Most people viewed LJ on desktop and with large screens so the smaller details in ETC and JM prints were visible and could be appreciated. Cell phone screens are tiny and modern social media encourages doom scrolling where only the weirdest looking images from far away will catch our attention.

>What do you think of their newer stuff?
I like much of it, but like many in the thread I can only really buy it 2ndhand, so depends what scraps are available. I do wish it was easier to purchase from overseas; at least that would make it easier to convince myself to drop the cash for it new. The detailing of JM is so beautiful though so it's not that I think it isn't worth it.

>What have you lately bought from JM (new or secondhand)?
I haven't gotten to wear much of anything out since the spring, but the last piece I got was a really comfy, cute tartan OP.

I got to go to their shop in Shinjuku when pic related had just been released, but they only had silver left in stock and I was set on gold. I'm still obsessed with it...

>Do you or anyone in your comm regularly wear it?
Lonelita, but personally I tend to wear it most in the summer when it's too hot for lolita. That's why most of the JM I buy is OP's and skirts (and accessories- I'm really into their detailed jewelry pieces).
