MTO means Made to Order, as in, they will make as many as are ordered. With a cap based on production capacity which could be high or could be more moderate. As a 20th anniversary thing I see no reason for them to not have it in every online store based on the information we have (multiple Japanese locations have posted already about it, suggesting at minimum the MTO is Japan wide and available in store and not just phone call/in person only reservations like they often do for store limited ones).

If you're talking about the periwinkle colorway, it's newer + there's less of them, so the people that own them have had a few more years worth of gathering info on how to best take care of the dresses. While rarer, it's also not a super popular colorway

So many of the original release have had multiple owners which increases the risk of damage with improper storage, staining, improper washing etc.

There isn't an error in my post. Both had "MTOs" in Japan and TDB was released at Yokohama and one other store only (Kyoto maybe?) and they reached capacity after a couple hours on the first day. It was supposed to be for sale for 3 days. There aren't that many TBDs floating around either so the cap must have been low.

Toy Parade was also only available at 2 or 3 stores.

AP has done something good and started to rerelease things that were skyrocketing in price. Even so, I'm in a weird place where I was buying some things for prices that were above retail. Mainly sweet AP jewelry. I was getting used to paying $50 for rings and $80 - 100 for necklaces. Even ClosetChild and Wunderwelt have started pricing things higher, so I just accepted it. Now I don't know what to do with myself. The rereleases make me feel like anything is possible, like suddenly AP is just going to rerelease every popular series + accessories, and maybe I've been throwing my money away? Does anyone else feel the same way?

I'm wondering if AP will turn the tide and prices will go down again on everything because people will wait for rereleases. Or if we just got really lucky because of the 20th anniversary. The writing is on the wall though. Feels like Milky Planet, etc are next.

I kind of doubt the pony bags will ever be rereleased. There's too many colors/variations, and offering them as an MTO would be an insane amount of work. No, just DDD/DDs depending on the brand of bras. They're annoying but not enough to go under the knife. I think that AP is afraid to take those risks. They seem to be targeting the Chinese and local market more, rather than in the west. I see Baby doing the same thing.

It's not like these brands are these enormous conglomerates that don't have to give a fuck. They tend to put their time and money into what will be the safest financial route for them.

This is why when they tend to do re-releases, it's been MTO in recent years. It's less of a financial risk to do so. These tend to appear based on popularity and demand, rather than at-whim. At the end of the day, lolita is still niche worldwide, even if it is more popular than ever.

Meta on the other hand? I don't know how popular the brand is in Asian countries, but it's always been steadily popular in the west due to sizing. Western societies are less homogenous, with more variation in height/bust (not accounting for body fat percentages).

AP and Baby/ATTP knows that it can stop targeting the West entirely, focus on their Asian customers and not fall under. They can make items that size out a portion of their western customers and do okay. I'm sure this is why AP in particular has stopped doing several cuts during releases.

Meta on the other hand, knows that it can't really do this. So they need to target the west and provide items that will attract their customer base. There's a gap left by AP and Baby (though never really filled consistently) and Meta is providing. I think it's a smart choice, even if their usual standard size is plenty enough for me.

It's such a small piece of fabric that is mostly covered up by lace that even if the difference was that noticeable, you wouldn't be able to tell anyway. The poly fabric is very slightly off for both the yellow and ivory colorways, both in texture and in hue. The yellow is a bit more dingy and less vibrant while the ivory is more cool toned/gray in comparison to their respective cotton versions.

That said, for just the KC it isn't too noticeable. I got the poly KCs just because and find I reach for them more than the cotton ones because they sit a bit more nicely on the head. Unless you were looking for it, you wouldn't really notice it.

The dresses on the other hand are very obviously different, since that is a bigger mass of the new crappy fabric they used. So in short, the KCs aren't so bad and even a bit cuter with how they sit, vs the dresses which look terrible no matter what you do.

Most of the time, any damage is on the border print itself due to improper washing so cutting it apart and replicating the special set is kind of pointless. It's really not cuter than the original cuts, plus you have to have a small bust to look cute in the ss cut, so eh. Plus unless you are savvy at altering, that kind of alteration would be a in the 100s or more, easy. Not worth it at all.

The yellow hc that sold for that much had horrible print bleeding all over and missing waist ties. IMO 500 is still a hell of a lot for that dress which said issues. OPs are usually worth less than JSKs so that in ivory is probably worth in the 500s as well rn.

So no, the hype did not go down and it probably never will since AP will never make that one in cotton again. For a cotton jsk in good condition, 800-1000 seems to be pretty set in stone depending on the color. It has gone up and down over time but they were priced around that a few years ago as well.

Also come on anon, hc has always been super popular because it is super sweet but also can be coorded in a toned down way. I know you want to believe it is losing it's hype but it never will.

There is literally a set of an non rereleased cut listed for less than that not selling with a price reduction on LM right now. I would say $1K is no longer a typical HC price for ivory or yellow at all based on sales. I already have the cotton so have no reason to want the value to decrease (though I never really plan to sell mine), I was just asking if other peiple noticed these ones going for cheaper and semi-blindly speculating as to the reason, though the lower prices are fact. And I mentioned damaged dresses specifically because then people would care less that it gets cut up and rearranged, plus bleeding isn't that hard to remove in my experience anyway. That was me selling the yellow one with the replaced buttons! I ended up taking down the auction and selling it on a BIN to someone who sent me an offer. It went for 500, I really have no idea why the one with no waist ties ended up going for so much. I do think the HC bubble has popped at least somewhat. I didn't get a ton of interest on my auction or when I posted in the BTS thread. I think part of that was I was trying to sell it for a higher price at first because that's what I thought it was worth, but I just think that (at least for the round cut) the hype is lessened now. Maybe I just listed it at a bad time and if I had hung on to it I would have gotten more, but it is what it is and overall I feel it sold for a fair amount. I hope this helps!
