At this point, you may also want to seriously consider professional help in the form of therapy or medical help as well because if you're feeling the need to use alcohol to sleep, this may be very hard to recourse without professional help. I don't know your situation obviously, but 'needing' alcohol to function normally is very concerning.

I think the difference in perception can have a lot to do with if you seem natural & comfortable in your clothes, if you look like you're wearing lolita as a costume the motives are questionable. After having been in the fashion since 2003, I think I am done. Nothing really inspires me anymore, and I have not worn my pieces in close to a year now. I've been doing kind of the opposite and have been pushing my historical projects for special occasions and event. I've been moving into lolita for daily wear since classic often feels less obtrusive in public.
If your lolita doesn't take too much space in your closet, take time to see what you'll wear in the next year since lockdowns have been keeping everyone from going out. And after a while if you decide it's still not for you anymore, then you can give them away or sell. I'd probably buy from you.
