I feel like your issue here is that the background doesn't actually add to the piece. The composition, colors, and lighting don't do much to accentuate the figure and because of that, they feel less like a choice and more like something you picked at random. It's probably what's making the other anon feel that it's traced over 3D. Obviously you had some element of this bg in mind when you started but it might be a good idea to spend more time designing the bg to work with your composition without the perspective grid and then put it into the scene for reference once you're getting closer to the rendering phase. I did a quick PO demonstrating some of these ideas. (I also noticed the lighting direction was a lil inconsistent)

Thanks for the pointers. You're quite correct with your assessment – it was basically just a random city scene practice I slapped her in in post. It didn't really fit so my crop I posted on twitter was actually even more cropped.

If you're going to go nanchatte, look into the details and quality of actual school uniforms. I didn't see the kogal comment at first so I thought you were TRYING for nanchatte but it doesn't exactly read as either of them. Nanchatte uses high quality pieces that look like an actual school uniform.

What you've got right now sort of reads like a cheap imitation of both kogal and nanchatte, like a uniform in a Britney Spears music video. Its a cute outfit but the photo you posted isn't really suited for a draw thread where people usually post full body coordinates as inspiration, and the pieces look like they were bought at Forever21, no offense. In short, you need a bigger range of dark and light colors. Think darker shadows and lighter highlights on your current painting. Right now everything is mid range and there isn't enough contrast between dark/light colors leading to a blurred result. Pay attention to where the shadows and light hits.
If this explanation still didn't help try watching/reading tutorials and learn more about basic fundamentals .
