i think a lot of these people were also either shitty (think choke with her lockshop fiasco) or didn't have 500 white knights pouring in to defend them. we have a lot more larpers/lolitas at heart now due to social media being prevalent. back in the LJ days even popular lolitas couldn't call on a bunch of people to white knight for them as easily. most of the drama and salt here was pretty much accepted and the people defending anyone were the minority that got drowned out. now whenever even a small time ita gets posted they whine publicly on insta and then 10 people shit up the thread.

i miss the diversity of coordinates posted back then. we are seeing less casual coordinates posted to social media because they dont bring enough likes and shares when posted individually, and on CoF they usually get drowned out by flashier, more OTT coordinates.

back on daily-lolita, you could chunk together all your coordinates into one post, and it'll still get seen and commented on.

I want to add a little bit in defense of modern ways of dressing. The thing that amazes me about OP coords is how simple coords used to be. Full set with a pair of shoes, bag and just a few accessories - and you were ready to go, and that looked actually cool. At another hand brand was not so widespread, stock pictures were tiny, so even basic coords looked refreshing. Now, if you were around for a little while you could come through a good lot of pics with Star(ry) Night Theatre for instance, or meet someone wearing it irl. Whis so much community knowledge on each piece you might need to put some effort to make it look fresh.

The most depressing thing is that SM kinda pushes you into constant online presence, so people resort to a making outfit pictures at the same location over and over. Good thing if you get to decorate a selfie spot (extra pressure though), but SM profile with a bunch of samie looking pictures against the plain wall looks just sad to me.

I honestly miss the simplicity, it made it easier to just grab one outfit and join in at a first meetup. My local comm was so friendly back in the day, too. It was as much as aesthetic fashion as a sincere hobby that people would connect and bond over. And you didn't need to get an extra drawer just to bulk purchase a bunch of matching accessories in order to look "complete". The itas were probably a bit worse then, but I'd take a beginner ita with the other good stuff for sure. It was so rad.

i remeber when complaining about crit wasn't the norm. there was no, "no crit" rule on d_l or anything. most people either wanted to improve or they got out of the fashion because it wasn't what they expected. now, especially younger people, are so obsessed with lolita as a concept and treat it as part of their identity so they can't deal with any criticism because they take it personally. i never understood why people take anything like that personally. i would much rather look good than simply feel like i do. what's the point of buying clothes and trying to make a coord if you just look bad in the end? why expend the effort?

I remember her getting flack for it at times, but I liked how she experimented and wasn't afraid to try new things. Not this particular outfit, but other ones.
