My friend is going to this con. They have been jonesing for a con for half a year now. Just unable to think of anything else. I've only gone to one AMW I'm the early 2010's and it was such a sad little thing. They only had the hotel. They didn't even have any space in the convention center. I felt a little stupid for being convicted to go three states over for such a small con. I've tried to warn my friend about what they are getting into but they won't listen. I didn't harp on the Ryan stuff mostly bc that doesn't effect people's user experience. Yeah you shouldn't support someone like that. But if you ignore or just don't about any of that stuff it doesn't impact your con experience. That said your con experience being this hastily slapped together school faire is a different story.

So I actually spent some time to google and look at this a bit since I just want to go to a con and not a protest rally. The most I can actually find is that he's an uggo white dude who has been known, and as I can tell has admitted and is confirmed, to use his position as a con leader who has used that as a pickup line or flex to get women in the sack. This happened 2 possibly 3 times it's hard to tell from some googling, which one(supposedly more) talked about it being a dumb thing to do no real way to confirm shit happened on the internet. Charges were filed it seems though it went basically no where outside of a report, it's also unclear if it's one of the same people who was confirmed woo'd~ by someone flexing they run an anime con....Not 100% sure but a lot of this info seems to date from around the time the whole vic thing went down so that's probably what gave this more attention than it normally would have.

Not defending the guy or choosing sides, I don't refuse to eat at mcdonalds for breakfast because someone in the company might be pro trump or some shit, but there doesn't seem to be anything solid. Rest of all arguments seem to be using circumstantial stuff as proof or "it's weird how...." or "well he was banned from X con, SEE THAT PROVES IT! THEY KNOW!". A lot of these feels like people seen too much law and order and playing arm chair lawyer.

tl;dr Seems the dude has used his position in con staff as a pickup line

Given this allegedly happened in 2013 and she felt too intimidated into pressing charges at the time. I find it odd that if the allegations were true, she didn't come forward when #MeToo started and you had all these other alleged accusers come along with the fact that this would still well be within the statue of limitations if the claim was creditable. There's also the question of if she got the rape kit done, that would really throw a lot of doubt onto the case if she refused that since the police only suggested she go to the hospital, but I don't see anything confirming she did.

Defamation has a high bar in the US, and there's a huge difference between being allowed to call someone a rapist, and proving they are one. Also, if you read the document, the $8100.65 was for the attorney fees and costs of the defendant, which is normal when you lose this sort of case. So all this amounts to is that he tried to sue someone for defamation and lost.

Assuming the documents posted aren't forged, the only hard evidence we got right now is a police report was filed against him over 8 years ago, but no charges filed, and he lost a defamation case 2 years ago.

One of the major points of #MeToo is that the accusers came out publicly to help other victims then come out as well. If he actually does have a long history of sexually assaulting people at conventions, the logical action would then be that all the accusers would go public, as opposed to just posting anonymous or redacted posts online that someone can then just hand wave as fakes.

Was so tempting to ask her if she's ok during one of the few times her mom stepped away but didn't want to risk her already pissed bitch of a mom going even more apeshit because a complete stranger was taking more interest in her kid's wellbeing than she was. This honestly has been one of if not my best con experience. Turnout was huge, I met a ton of new people, the dances were fun, got an autograph from a voice actor I liked, and got to see fireworks. I couldn't really ask for more.

Also genshin has overtaken the con as most popular cosplay, bye MHA

in the brief 12 months I was in there, Arby slept with no less than 10 people that I knew of, probably more from grindr etc, most from that discord. many were barely over 18, were doing their first "crossplay" and their first exposure into the 2hu community was arby having them share a room. Arby I think is peaking around 30 right now. You could go a step further and say the reason the 2hu community is so weird is because of who drew them into it.

Arb used the midwest discord to more or less monopolize meetups at a lot of these cons. Recruitment typically flowed from steadily shilling it at every major/minor event throughout the midwest, which brought in a steady stream of fresh faces. It originally started off as a way to room/rideshare and expanded from that to an entire social group.I would know, I used to co admin that discord :^)

Then... I dunno. the touhou thing started as a meme then some people I guess took it seriously and it drew a lot of crossdressing etc. from here and from people we met at cons. then they all started trying to bone each other. then the fallout from said boning.

it got to where most of what I did was run around trying to patch up sour beans between flings that went south. Acen 19 for example I had to last minute slot somebody into our room after they'd spent the first night in Arb's. So much petty drama and things weren't getting better at all, so I ended up leaving. I am entirely unsurprised it's gone downhill this hard.
