lolita brands (like VM) that make mermaid skirts intend for them to be coorded with their other items, which obviously leads to a neo-victorian look.

Boz sometimes has a straightforward goth look for their mermaid skirt coords, which unlike VM cannot be mistaken for lolita from the waist up. Boz is more goth than lolita, and their blouses and jackets range from modern to medieval.

it would be cool to see people use mermaid skirts with something such as AP's retro-style tops, which would probably lead to a vintage pinup style silhouette.

however, the safe option is to fall back on a classic-style silhouette, which leads to pseudo victorian/edwardian coords

what is neo victorian and how does it differ from aristocrat?

>> No.10736469

>>10736459
neo victorian is a global thing that is not exclusive to japan. it is general clothing inspired by the victorian era. steampunks and goths often use neo-victorian fashion. some lolita and ouji can also be categorized as neo victorian.

"aristocrat" is a western idea derived from mistranslations and context-less clips of GLBs and other Japanese fashion mags. people decided that Moitie's EGA was applicable to a range of shit from madame/shokujo to ouji to goth to literal butler coords. more specifically, the West uses "femme aristocrat" to mean neo-victorian womenswear.

EGA in Japan is almost exclusively used by Moitie wearers.

what the west calls "femme aristocrat" might be called any of the following labels in Japan: goth, classical goth, Victorian, lolita, madame, shokujo, lady, steampunk, witch, adult lolita, and more.

>> No.10736471

>>10736469
(ctd)

why does it matter? because you get what you ask for.

"femme aristocrat" in the West is mostly neo-victorian womenswear, so the types of coords you get in that tag, or in a thread for it, will be constrained by that concept.

if you ask for "madame" coords, the "allowable" coords change and would include things that the western comm is not used to seeing at lolita meets.

Use the GLBs you newfag. You're using one or two mentions by mana that are just referring to the skirts themselves. Every mention of EGA includes photos of men's and women's coords. Atelier BOZ is also EGA and EGL and sold these kinds of skirts as EGA. EGA is just meant to be a mature styling of EGL, hence the long skirts and pants rather than child length skirts and shorts. Stop trying to re-categorize things that have existed for years.

although Mana claimed that EGM was a line for feminine items such as mermaid skirts, the mermaid skirts i have found are clearly itemized under EGL.

the coords he creates that use mermaid skirts are clearly represented as EGL.

brands that have ever used the term Elegant Gothic Aristocrat: 1, Moitie.

brands that have used general terms such as elegant, classical, gothic, but never aristocrat: many, such as Boz, Marble, Sheglit, Abilletage, etc.

i doubt Mana trademarked the term so there is nothing stopping them.

the only brands that use EGA are the ones that sell to western consumers, such as F+F. the same brands that use "kodona," for the exact same reason.
