a lot of itas seem to jump onto lolita with seemingly not even the most basic concept of fashion sense? they might go down a checklist of components (dress, socks, head accessory, petticoat) and maybe even stick to brand, but then be incapable of matching a single colour, theme/motif, or even substyle, as if you can just toss any combination of items together.

so you'll see people who evidently have a whole closet of brand, but every coord they put together looks like they pressed the "random" button on a video game character creator.

some of them (see: common ita trope of sweet dress with random mismatched gothic and punk elements) seem to be trying to reinvent their own version of the bittersweet "style", because every young newbie lolita seems to think they're going to be the inventor of the next hot new substyle.

there's also a subset of sweet itas that really just feel like fairy kei enthusiasts in denial. every thread there's at least 2-3 itas wearing something far too casual for lolita, but would be passable for fairy-kei or some other less formal girly style.

honestly, i kind of miss when itas were just weebs in chinese lacemonsters and maid outfits. seeing itas actually own decent pieces and then make them look like garbage is honestly worse.

Yes, this makes me unreasonably annoyed with them. I've seen a few brand perma-itas over the years that have really elegant or cute brand pieces but always have terrible coords despite the fact that they own all of the right elements to go with it.

Another tragic thing is when lolitas devolve. They once made good coords but now only wear poorly coorded messes of outfits. Probably because they lost interest in lolita and now try to make it into something it isn't. They're obsessed with experimenting.

Most of her outfits miss the mark. She's got that "lolita is whatever I say it is" attitude. There are many ugly lolita dresses that aren’t ita, you could argue that ita can be a term for anything lolita that’s ugly (looking at the original translation: “itai” meaning it hurts or it hurts to look at). But most of the time today (especially on cgl) ita means a “lolita” coordinate that isn’t really lolita or breaks the core rules of the fashion (no blouse, no petticoat, etc.) but that’s a whole argument of it’s own really.
