It's kind of embarrassing to admit, but I'm having trouble making a pattern so far. Right now I'm just testing them with felt because I don't sew much, but I was going to move up to buying non-pill fleece once I get the hang of things.

>>6280379
I suggest looking up ladder stitch. Do you happen to have any of your plushies on hand that you can post a picture of? If we can see what the problem is, we can tell you how to fix it.

I looked up baseball stitch that the other anon talked about (I've honestly never heard of it) and got this handy tutorial
Okay, links are spam. Forgot that. Google "Stardust Shoes Baseball Stitch".

The important thing to remember is that the two sides that you're sewing together, you don't want the two raw edges to meet. You'll be folding over each side and then sewing through the folds.
I don't feel like I explained that very well. Anyone want to help me clarify what I mean?

For the newbies, socks are a wonderful medium to start off into some plushie making. I've done quite a few animals and pokemons out of socks and felt. I found this pretty number on here but in a taobao thread. I've had good results with fleece, flannel, and interesting cotton prints. Fleece is really stretchy and slips easily, so you need to pin it well, though. Of the three, though, it makes the cuddliest.

I feel ya about the pricing. If this person is looking to make a living off it around here (it's getting expensive to live, bleh), I can't see them priced any lower than $10, maybe $8 at lowest. For me, it may take me an hour to make the ice cream cone one.

It's stuff like this that makes me nervous of selling amigurumi as a source of income (not a main source but I'd like to make money back for my efforts). Some of the things I make take a couple of hours or more, depending on how big and detailed, but I don't think people would jump on buying them so I think they are usually best left for online sales and it's the matter of marketing yourself as to make the price seem more worthwhile. I have experience in making and selling plushies at Artist Alley, so maybe I'll warm up to selling a few smaller amigurumi as a test trial and see the reactions

Pic related for amigurumi pricing, it's not my table but the prices sort of seem a tad low for some of them, unless she makes them quick or just selling for fun.

>> No.6289960

>>6289901
I agree. Anything that takes a few hours to make should cost $10 or less.
I tried making a living off of it with taking commissions left and right but it's hard to do. And in the end people are going to want to haggle with you. It doesn't seem worth it.
However, I want to try selling in a venders hall one day, but all the horror stories scare me.

So you want people to sell their time for less than minimum wage?
Fuck that
I make my living selling crafted things in the AA and I charge $20 an hour for my time, a professional wage, and while I will get some cheep faces I end up making more than enough to live off of.

If you're really pokey and slow about making things you aren't a professional BTW. I charge $20-25 for my items but they take me 1/2 hour - 45 min to make. I've seen other people try to make the exact same things and have it take them 2-3 hours each and my items would not sell for $60 so take in account your skill level when you set your wage.

Not going to argue with you because I feel like I'm steadily working on my way to a professional level, though I am bewildered by your hourly wage and how fast you make your items. May I ask what do you make to sell?

Also to add in general, consider pricing a one-of-a-kind item a little higher.

The best thing you can do is find an artist who lives up to your expectations, and then proposition them.
Try etsy as well.

Be careful with your search words, too. You want to search just a human chibi plush, not for specifically anime plushies.

I don't feel like making a new thread just for this, so I'll toss it up here. It's kinda related.

We have Artist Alley generals every now and again, and they're usually pretty productive. However, they tend to get bogged down with a lot of questions that have been answered before.

Would the denizens of /cgl/ be willing to assemble a document that's sort of an artist's guide to the alley? It could have as much basic information as possible, such as where to get X printed, how much should X sell for, how to make different displays, how to display different things, etc.

It would be a lot of information to gather, but incredibly helpful for anyone who even thinks they want to try. Think of it as a crash course. Something like AA101. That way, there could still be discussion in the occasional thread.
