In my experience 99% of the time these excuses are just that, excuses. Sure there is a tiny percentage of people who are allergic to such a great number of ingredients that it's difficult for them to groom themselves or use products. And for some who are sensitive, it is difficult if at the same time they are poor, so I can understand how they cant afford good products. The latter is obviously not the case for her since she can obviously afford brand. Today there are a gazillion brands that specialise in products for sensitive skin, for people with allergies, for those with skin conditions and all that. It just takes effort. And if you can't wear full wigs, wear extensions or half wigs. I'm not even gonna address the whole "it hurts my arms" part cause for fucks sake, if you can go out and about attending lolita events and conventions you can probably spend 15 mins styling your own hair. Or go for a freaking blow dry.

This. It's my only pet peeve in lolita. I don't care if people are fat or skinny, if they wear handmade, brand, offbrand, replicas, or if their coords are not perfect, or if they are matchy-matchy or more unconventional. I definitely agree here.
I have a huge problem with people who think that looking nice is about wearing nice clothes, and not just in lolita. I see tons of people walking around every day in nice clothing that just look bad because their hair is a mess and they didn't try to look nice. And if you don't try to make yourself look nice in the clothes they don't look as good.

I was thinking of getting some people to help me put together a style and beauty blog that basically informs people on how to look their best in Lolita. They were probably unkempt before they found out about lolita and stay that way in and out of lolita. Lots of girls don't think they 'need' makeup at all. It's not just something that happens in lolita, but for some reason it really sticks out.

For people who have limp, thin hair but don't want to wear a wig, the easiest solution is to get a half-wig or hair piece for additional volume and some clip-on bangs / fringe that match their natural hair. It is SO EASY. In lolita it is especially easy to use such hair pieces cause since we always wear hair accessories, the boundary lines between real and fake hair get concealed real easy. No excuses, seriously girls.

See, I don't understand this logic. I was a slob before lolita and rarely wore any make up or did anything with my hair. But when I discovered lolita, the first thing I noticed was how much effort is necessary to pull off the clothes. Maybe cause I discovered lolita from the gothic lolita bible where y'know, everyone is a model but also looking at japanese lolita blogs, my first realization was that if I wanna get into the fashion, I better shape up, start grooming myself, do something with my hair, and invest in some good make up and skincare products.
