General beauty/skincare/makeup thread!

>> No.6431588

I'm 24 and recently I've gotten fine lines across my forehead. I chug down 2 litres of water every day and eat a /fit/-approved diet. I also moisturise morning and evening. What do?

>> No.6431591

>>6431588
Wear makeup with sunscreen in it (or just plain sunscreen if you're a guy/girl who prefers not to wear makeup) every day. Beef up your skincare regimen to include products that fight fine lines. Exfoliate, but don't overdo it.

I really like Clinique's repairwear laser focus serum. It's a bit expensive but worth every penny.

Whilst moisturing/spf will help slow it down, most lines (especially forehead/laughter lines) come from being expressive.

People have botox to stop them being so expressive essentially, but you can train yourself without needing that shit. I'm the same age as you but I don't have any lines (and some friends of mine had various lines from as young as high school age) because I'm not overly expressive and my default expression is a deadpan one. Just make a mental note of how often you do it one day, then try and reduce it.

I wouldn't worry about having every product be anti-aging. Seems to me like you would be over-doing it in that case. Especially if you have other skincare concerns (ie acne-prone, sensitive, etc.), it's okay to have just "normal" cleansers and toners and other stuff like that. I always feel like special treatments, moisturizers and foundations are where it's at as far as anti-aging products. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Here's what I'd suggest for anti-aging products:

Olay Regenerist microderm abrasion kit
Most of Boscia's skincare products
that Clinique serum that was already mentioned
a good Korean BB cream for your skin
a good eye cream and night moisturizer
a moisturizer to suit your skin type/concerns (preferably with an spf unless your bb cream has a high one)

Again, this is just my opinion! If someone else has better suggestions please step forward.

So I have had amazing acne problems ever since I hit puberty. I've gotten a lot of it under control but I'm still prone to a LOT of blackheads all over the place and 5+ zits on my face at any given time. I've been using Olay's combination/oily face wash in the mornings, and Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne Wash in the evenings. That's been working alright, but I recently started working in the kitchen of a fast food place, and now my acne has gotten really bad again. I switched to using the Neutrogena morning and night and my skin is back to 'normal'.

tl;dr I have a lot of blackheads all the time and work in a grease-tacular kitchen, wat do?

Yeah, I do it myself a maximum of three times a week. You can get them on amazon, but don't go buying a cheap one. The needles will bend and the handle will break. I have a 2.5mm one which is good for reducing wrinkles, stretchmarks and scarring; ideally you want a minimum of 1.5mm. There's no point in buying a 0.5mm at all, it will do absolutely nothing for your wrinkles. Buy a sanitizing spray and use it on the roller before and after each session. Only use it on freshly washed skin. You should also rinse off your derma roller with some water after rolling. Don't share it with anyone!

I don't know how truly helpful it is, but I also like to use a collagen serum after each session and then apply a moisturiser on top of that. At any rate, I've definitely seen a noticeable improvement in my skin condition and in stretchmark visibility. For me, the actual rolling doesn't hurt at all, but the skin looks pink and feels a little tender for about 10 minutes afterwards. Pain tolerance is different for everyone though, so I'd suggest rolling it on the back of your hand first. If it does hurt too much, it's nothing a topical numbing cream won't fix. Please be aware that if you're using it on your face it's not suitable for getting rid of eye bags - the skin is way too thin and delicate there! It's fine for crow's feet at the sides though. Unfortunately I threw the box out and can't remember for the life of me what brand mine is, but there's a specialist store on Amazon that has very positive reviews. Hope all this is somewhat helpful!

does anyone here use SANA products? i have to change my skincare routine, and i'm interested in them.

for the most part i'm going to change back to some ole reliable products (hadalabo toner, shiseido the skincare daily moisturizer, kose deep cleansing oil) but i need a new cleanser and nightcream. for the cleanser i think i'm going to try kose's acne washing foam.

perhaps you've developed an allergy to one of your makeups? you could also have eczema, etc. try to gently wash the area with oatmeal and see if that calms it. if not you may want to visit a dermatologist.

as for the eyecream, i would say most people don't believe they work. overpriced repackaged moisturizers, etc. this belief is popular. i wouldn't say it's unfounded.

but for me, i would die without my eyecream. it gets rid of all my "dry skin" under eye lines and leaves my eyes shinny and moist looking. i use shiseido the skincare eye moisture recharge. unfortunately this is useless to you because it's quite expensive. i've tried other eyecreams, but i can't recommend them, as they all gave me millia and were ineffective.

but i would highly encourage you to find the source of your problem first before trying to solve it with an eyecream. you don't want to exacerbate the problem.

Can you recommend and BB creams, please?

I have oily, sensitive skin that's extremely blemish-prone if something is annoying it. I tried Smashbox's BB cream and even though it seems that they don't have the same benefits as the Korean ones, I still really liked it. It was a bit more pigmented than a moisturizer, spread easily, was good for my skin type and matched my color. The only Korean BB I can find that comes even close is the Missha 31 and that has whitening.

All the other BB creams I know of don't seem to be quite the right tone/shade for my skin or don't seem right for my skin type and concerns.

My mom recently bought me the Olay Foaming Face Wash for sensitive skin, after I've dealt with pretty persistent acne for probably eight or nine years, telling me that all the women in our family use it. I'm so fucking mad, because this shit works so well for me. I've only been using it for about a week, and my skin's cleared up faster than with any other product, or combination of products I've ever used. I guess I'll be using this for the rest of my life, like everyone else on my mother's side, but if it keeps working, whatever.

Right now, though, I'm dealing with some dark spots from acne. I've been exfoliating daily with a really mild exfoliant, (Aveeno skin brightening, or something like that- the one in the green bottle) and switching to something a little stronger every two or three days to help get rid of them. Once it gets warmer, I'll probably start going out more often, since tanning, I've noticed, speeds up the process. I've heard mixed things about daily exfoliation; some sources say it's good, some say it's too much.

I generally wash my face twice a day with Purpose soap. I put on a very small amount of ProActiv day and night. During the day, I moisturize with CereVe lotion, and at night I put on creme de la mer (it's a miracle creme... but it costs $150).

My makeup is usually MAC's studio fix powder foundation in NW 15, and I apply it with my Bare Escentuals kabuki brush. After that, I put on some of La Mer's translucent powder over it to give me an ethereal, fairy-like glow.

I use MAC's dollymix blush (very lightly) and MAC's double dare cremesheen gloss.

Listen up Ladies and Gentlemen.

Google search Essential oils for hair and skin, also can be used on eyelashes to make them longer and stronger.

Vit E Oil for acne scars and hair and eyelashes too

Joboba, Coconut, Caster, Almond oils

Rosemary, Lavender and chamomile..

Seriously these things work better than anything you can get in a store, essential oil based cosmetics are also superior.

For hair avoid using SLS, parabens and artificial fragrance.

Hair is made up of dead skin cells, omega oils and Keratin (similar to nails). Some essential oils are high in keratin (Neem, Carrot seed) which provide essential nutrients to cause cell repair and actually changes your hair dramatically if used everyday over a period of time. These methods also prevent baldness and any hair fall in men or woman.

Downside is they can be kind of expensive, but they work like you would not believe for nails, hair and skin.

Also don't smoke, or drink, avoid caffine and take B12 and biotin, Guaranteed to age gracefully.

i think the color they are now will do fine with silvery hair.
when you go unnaturally blonde you no longer have to follow the "two shades" rule, but instead go for what fits.

but to make them lighter you can get a mixing medium for mascara, MAC sells one, and then make whatever color you want.

Hey, Lush employee here. Just thought I'd mention we have two holiday cleansers for sale right now that I'm REALLY loving--Buche de Noel which is great for fragile winter skin, and Let The Good Times Roll which is a face polish/scrub that smells almost unfortunately delicious.

On the wider topic of Lush products...Anon who gets UTI--ME TOO. Yeah. I love how the bath bombs smell, but they can absolutely do that. It's a huge pain.

I urge everyone to try using Ultrabland at least once, even if you think it's not for you--it has changed my skin. I'm pretty combination and figured it wouldn't work for me as it's super moisture intense and seems like it's for ultra dry skin--it's basically oils and beeswax mixed together. But I learned at training the Lush founders SWEAR by this product obsessively and so I gave it a try. You need something to wipe it off gently after you put it on your face (I use a warm washcloth) and some people like using a scrub in conjuction with it to give it a little more power (I use Angels on Bare Skin or a homemade honey/sugar scrub beforehand) but...my skin is SO SMOOTH now. I really needed that moisture and I had no idea. It might not actually be a silver bullet for you the way it is for me, but if you have the cash, try it out.

One thing though--I gotta say, I'm not loving our Emotional Brilliance makeup line. The colors are gorgeously intense, but the eye products crease like mad and they can sometimes get a little gross. I was testing an eyeliner on a woman's hand today and it came out clumped and gross and augh. I just don't think the totally all natural thing works here--jojoba oil just doesn't work with cream eyeshadow.

(for anyone looking for a job though--I urge you to send in a Lush resume. It's a retail job, yeah, but I really actually love working here.)

Heh heh, no big! I'm just used to saying "tell me about your skin!" ^^

For skin...perhaps try Herbalism. It's very good for congested skin, oily skin, all that, but isn't quite as intense as Dark Angels or Coalface (though if you're looking for an intense, oil-killing, perhaps once-a-week scrub, Dark Angels can be great!). You might also try Angels on Bare Skin--it's very gentle and good for a whole lot of skin types. I didn't think it'd be for me (thought my skin was too oily) but it's made it much smoother and I like how gently exfoliating it is. Perhaps check out our Enzymion moisturizer--it's good for oily skin too. Also Vanishing Cream, which is super light (if you don't want something too heavy) or Imperialis which has little bit of everything for skin that doesn't scream any one quality.

Also, maybe check out our toners! Tea Tree Water is great for oil, Eau Roma is nice and softening, and Breath of Fresh Air is a great combination skin kind of product.

Hair wise...well, we're dropping eight new products on Black Friday! One of them sounds like it might be for you--it's a hair treatment called Roots, really good for fine thin hair (though I have not tried it myself yet). Shampoo wise, maybe try Rehab--it's got a little bit of everything and makes my hair feel soooo nice. For extra greasy days, perhaps try I Love Juicy--all the citrus is great for mopping all that up. I also really love our Dry Shampoo, if you're into that kind of thing---could be good for your hair.

And ooh, I've heard good things about that Lush shop! Best of luck!

I went to Lush for the first time yesterday with my mom to find a gift for my sister-in-law, and all the scents of everything were just way too strong for me. I seriously had to step out after ten minutes while my mom finished up because I couldn't handle it - I have a sensitive sense of smell, but I've never had this happen in Bath & Body Works or anything, it was weird. Pretty much put me off to all the products, even if some aren't as strong.

I work in a legwear shop and even WITH displays on the mannequin and hangers people can touch and great lighting, people want to open our goddamn packaging all the time.

In the one I visited everything was displayed out of its packaging, and it looked more like a fancy bakery than a cosmetics store. I get that a big selling point is that these products don't need preservatives, but how do I go about buying anything? Do I ask an employee to cut off a slice and put it in a container? I have really bad social anxiety and the store tends to be very crowded, so I didn't dare ask anyone for help. instead of this, wear a different loose 100% t-shirt every night. you can get like a men's fruit of the loom or w/e 5 pack for like less than $10
but keep this up

>back scrubbing
this might be your problem, too much exfoliating can cause blemishes as it can cause micotears in the skin which allow bacteria to get in and cause blemishes, or prolong the life of them.

basically, you should wash everything and rinse everything before you wash your back- back last because the things in shampoo and conditioner can clog the pores of your back. especially conditioner.
you should only exfoliate your back 3x a week, finer milled products are better than big beads.
you should also use an astringent, they make ones for acne that you can just put in a spritzer bottle and spray all over your back. it's a bit awkward, but you'll get the hang of it.
don't forget to moisturize too, the over active oil glands may be a result of dry skin.

also, don't be afraid to use acne face washes on your body. just don't use it on sensitive areas (like nipples and genitals) i really like Neutragena (sp?) green acne wash, you can use that on your back on days you aren't exfoliating.

good luck

also, very few extensions that you sew up yourself come in double wefted. you always want to double weft your hair. i have never seen any, but i have heard some people have found them.

what seems to be the general rule is, the shorter the hair the longer the weft- and the longer the hair the shorter the weft.
i bought 2 packs from the same brand, one in 20 inches the other in 18 inches and the weft length was vastly different.

within a full month of using them you should be able to tell if they're better, worse, or doing nothing for your skin. so, it's not too hard.

when i want to try something skin care wise i just use it until i'm almost done with it, or until i can tell it's obviously not working or making my skin worse. the whole "your skin will get worse before it gets better" is a complete lie unless it's something very harsh like a chemical peel where you have to stay inside for a few days after getting it done.

with professional level stuff a "it gets worse before it gets better" can be normal.

but not with drug store, no. if it gets worse from a drug store product do not continue use. not even what you get from like a professional facial person- it should NEVER get worse before it gets better unless medically proscribed.

like, sometimes it works yes but sometimes (usually) there are really really horrifically damaging things people put themselves through that leave scaring that almost never goes away because they were just waiting for it to get better.

Do you wear any makeup on a regular basis?

Before I wore makeup I would always rest my hands on my face, but wearing foundation helped me! Just getting used to the feeling of makeup/being hyper aware of the "stuff" all over my face was enough to get me to stop touching it. Maybe a BB cream or something could help you if you don't already wear makeup? Same goes for eyeliner if you have a habit of rubbing/scratching your eyes! That was my biggest tick for years.

I also use bronzer on my jawline and under my cheek bones (I have a round face), but not as often as highlighting. I use Hard Candy's baked bronzer in tropics.

As a guy who pretty regularly applies makeup (for daily use and crossdressing), could I get some advice? I've only really been involved in anything makeup related for about a month and a half now, and while I have a good teacher, any and all advice, especially regarding different products is incredibly useful. I don't grow a lot of facial hair (hurr half-Jap master race and all that dribble), but when I shave, it's still a little darker around my upper lip. Just foundation doesn't seem enough to completely do away with it (the only foundation I have is Covergirl&Olay's Tone Rehab and a Sephora sample of Urban Decay's Naked Skin [which I calculated the value to be a whopping 8 bucks each sample]).

Anywho, I'd like any product recommendations on a concealer, a setting powder, and any sort of blush, since the one I grabbed from Walmart (I am so sorry) is pretty shit-tier. I don't wear eyeshadow 90% of the time unless I'm crossdressing, but a good primer would probably be worthwhile, too. All I know is that e.l.f.'s primer is absolutely worthless, since it made my friend's makeup crease -worse- than it would have without it.

As a girl who just got into wearing make-up in the last year, I second this. I have no idea what I'm doing and am just crashing into it head-first hoping for the best.

Personally I have no idea how to do concealer. I would need it for acne spots and pinkish under eyes. I'm insanely pale because I never go outside, too. So I'm a little scared whatever I get would end up being too dark.

Good recommendations on blush and eye shadow/eyeliners/mascaras? Does anyone know of any white eye shadows that don't look ridiculously sparkly?

I've got color/eye shape/blush area settled, but I have no idea about primer/concealer or any good brands of anything. I, too, use random Wal-Mart brands.

Help! I dyed my hair with palty the same way I've done it every time for myself and friends with beautiful results, and for some reason it turned out completely fucking off this time.

The plan was to do my base colour and go to the salon on sunday for highlights and pink, but now it looks like a hot orange mess. I went from dark brown, bleached it to a warm orangey shade and was then going to cool it down with another shade... which has always worked before now.

what do I do? can I ask the salon to lighten it? I don't want to pay out the ass for colour correction... basically the second dye didn't take at all so it's half bleached.

>> No.6441258

Just get a nice BB cream (check out Prettyandcute.com, Missha's seems to be a popular choice) and set that with a powder concealer, any you buy from Ulta or Sephora should work, and if you're extremely pale you might even get away with just setting it with rice powder.

As far as blush goes I can't really recommend anything, I use my pink or orange eyeshadows very lightly, and never wear eyeliner. Urban Decay's lash curling mascara is god-tier, though. A very nice, pigmented eyeshadow is Tako by Sugarpill (sugarpillshop.com, and if you were wondering their eyeshadows are to die for).

That said, these things will cost you a pretty penny, but in make-up you really, honestly do get what you pay for. I've learned that the hard way many times over. I used to be the person who would be appalled by $8 lip stain and now I'm thinking it's a steal if my lipstick goes on sale for that cheap. Cheers.

For your upper lip, you can try using some white eyeshadow or highlighting powder if your foundation is not doing it. You can actually contour your lips this way if you want a brighter lip and a more prominent cupid's bow.

As for setting powder, I think it depends on your skin type - some powders are good for those who have oily skin, for example. I use Milani, but I think there are other good options at the drugstore.

For blushes, I really like Hard Candy's baked blushes (available at Walmart only), but I have lighter skin. If you are a bit darker, Milani's baked blushes are very pigmented.

Definitely invest in a good eyeshadow primer - Urban Decay and Too Faced are popular options.

Good luck!

I swear by the Lush facial cleansers, so far I've tried Herbalism, Angels on Bare Skin and Buche de Noel, but so far Buche de Noel is my favorite. I just wish Lush would make it a year-round product instead of seasonal. : /

After cleansing with Buche de Noel, and I usually spray their Breath of Fresh Air toner all over my face, and then pat it into my skin. I don't dry my face between cleansing and toning, and after toning i just let my skin air-dry.

My skin honestly looks so much better when I'm using the Lush routine.. I used to use products with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to clear up my oily skin, but since I've switched to Lush I don't really use acne products much anymore.

I really want to try their Grease Lightening serum for spot treatment, but it's so popular that it's sold out everytime I go into the store. (Don't want to pay for shipping urghh)

Exfoliate yourself. I do it once or twice a week gently with just a washcloth and warm water, and then once a week I haul out the special product for a nice harsh sandblast. I have quite healthy/oily skin, so if yours is sensitive or gets raw/otherwise reacts badly, then cut back. Your skin should tingle and glow afterward, but not sting.

This stuff right here is my absolute favorite beauty product I have ever used (aside from B&BW bubble bath), and does the job nicely. It will make your skin feel fresh and perfect like you just came back from the beach and it feels soooooooo good. Nadeishko shampoo and conditioner is a silicone-free brand I've had some success with. I find the conditioner to be a little watery, meaning I need to use more of it, but it makes my hair feel really clean and manageable. Note that the floral fragrance is quite strong. Every time I've put my hair up after using it, there's this very strong burst of fragrance when I let it back down again, so I imagine it smells pretty noticeable throughout the day.

My #1 favorite right now is Shiseido's Ma Cherie line, though. It's not all-natural or anything like that, but I use the Air Feel stuff and it's wonderful. It will really make your hair look like the commercial; also adds a lot of lift to my very thick hair.

If it's subtle, I don't think it would interfere much. You just want to lighten up the upper lip just a little bit, not make it completely white.

I don't really have recommendations for picking out foundation - you might want to figure out what undertones you have though. Some foundations suit pinkish undertones better while others are more yellow. I would say not to venture too much into a foundation that's too light for your skin, but pick something that is close to your natural skintone. If your foundation's too light it'll look like you are doing whiteface and looks even more awkward when your neck/chest isn't that color.

Whenever I feel like my bangs were cut too short I tend to pull them back temporarily until they grow out a bit (Tends to take a week or so for me, but my hair grows fast?)
Also i'm not eniirly sure if blunt-cut bangs/hime cut suits your face. Currently I think you should thin/trim your brows a bit. Currently they look rather heavy and your bangs emphasize that. The shape is nice though.
Your eyes don't look overly hooded so I think a regular liner would work fine. If that line was extended on the top lid and tapered thin toward the inner corner it would better achieve the effect you're going for with that cat-eye; especially if you wear mascara as well. You look like you already have nice lashes so if you don't use mascara I think curling them might be enough as well.
You may want to take a better photo mostly because the angle and that bright light source on the side isn't helpful.

well, the wing is what i thought looked like dirt. don't worry, i don't think your skin discoloration looks like dirt.

you have really bold black eyelashes, eyebrows and hair, so the brown looks a bit silly to me. it's also very light. so it looks like random dirt to me.

as for the "staying in place" problem - sounds to me like you just need a good primer. to make it stay in place.

what sort of eyeliner did you use? i suggest starting with a gel liner, it's easiest to draw on and correct your mistakes. it also lasts longer than pencil. liquid liner is good, but i think it's harder for some girls to use right off the bat.

for the eyeshadow, i suggest you just keep trial and erroring your placement of the shadow. everyone has different preferences etc, you'll find color combos and such that you will like.

this diagram might be helpful for practice.

i kinda like your short bangs, but imo you need to step up your makeup game to make them work. a bolder makeup look would make your features pop with such short bangs. also maybe try curling the bangs a little? it would and add a nice retro flare. no need to go full out bettie page, but a little curl would soften up your features.

A tip is to used a brown color that has no shimmer
it must be MATTE in order to look natural.
Also try to find colors that are neutral (not too cool or too warm). Have a color that's a little darker than your skin.

Nose contouring is part of my daily routine and I normally use 'naked' or 'buck' from my naked pallette. You can use an eyeshadow or a bronzer really all that matters is the color.

Finding the perfect shade of makeup could take time, money and effort so keep trying!

I love Skinfood's Black Sugar Mask Wash Off, but they only seem to have sample sizes of it.

I'm a huge fan of Etude's cookie blushers:
http://cosmetic-love.com/etude-house-new-lovely-cookie-blusher-7-colors.html
Not sure about your colouring, but my personal favourite is peach parfait. They're fairly matte blushes, go on smoothly, and the colour lasts all day.

If you're into the glossy skin that's popular in Korea, I really like
http://cosmetic-love.com/etude-house-nymph-aura-volumer-3-types.html
I personally use #3 and only use it on my cheeks and nose instead of all over.

They don't really have my favourite products to recommend, and wow looking at the prices I'm glad I can just go to the store. Ouch.

My face tends to be pretty red for no reason, and I'm not just talking my cheeks from normal blushing.. like the bridge of my nose, my cheeks, my chin, everywhere. Try using a smidge of Vitamin E skin oil or just any other type of oil that you think would suit your specific skin type.

A lot of people with oily skin avoid using products with oil in them at all costs and that isn't exactly a good idea either. If your face hasn't got any oil then it makes more to make up for what isn't there-thus the overproduction and oil slick face. When it comes to using oils, I suggest using just STRAIGHT oils only. None of that commercialized scented lotion bullshit. Just go to a place like Whole Foods or Trader Joes and pick up a jar of natural oil (like rosemary, tea tree, peppermint, sage, or lavender). You face needs oil. Control how much is there but putting a bit yourself.

Also, be sure to give yourself a tough face mask about once a week. I recommending using Aztec Indian Healing clay which is sold at Whole Foods and The Vitamin Shop for about $7.

The worker was right. Pure, organic oil is heaven for most people's faces. Occasionally you can have a bad reaction, but for a lot of people the oil cleansing method completely rejuvenated their skin.

That said, I've never heard of using argan oil for the face. If you want moisture, go to whole foods and buy some organic extra virgin olive oil. It'll be cheaper.

usually expensive (they take two hours) like 100 to 200. That shit will work but its got formaldehyde in it. In all of them that work, no matter what they tell you, thats what bonds it to your hair and without it the keratin washes off super quick. There's whats called japanese hair straightening. Idk if its actually japanese but yeah, its like the opposite of a perm. It makes your hair stick straight. Uses chemicals but its better on your hair then a relaxer and no weird things in it (from my knowledge) like the karatin ones. It runs about the same as a karatin treatment but it can take a little longer. Or hell I went to school with a girl who didn't like her perm so she put perm solution over it without the rollers and it straightened it. But she had straight hair naturally so I don't know if it would work on already curly hair and it it would damage it quite a bit.

Also, try to wash your face twice a day, and use a gentle face wash, something harsh might be stripping the oil out of your face and making it more oily. Or if that's not the case, I think it was mentioned earlier in the thread about oils you can use for your face to help balance the oilness. If after doing that for a while you don't get paler, is because you can't, you can't change your genes. You could use whitening products, like soaps, lotions, etc. but they're basically bleach and damaging.
