Anyone know a good in-store SS? I'm lame and can't really find anyone.

I'm new to sewing and want to make a Lolita dress. I'm scared I will mess up though, can anyone give me some tips? Either about the dress or sewing in general. Maybe something you wish you knew when you were new? Also can anyone give me a link to a free (or cheap) OP or JSK pattern? All of the ones I find are either Japanese diagrams (like they just show how the dress looks, they don't give me pieces to cut out) or a tutorial on how to make your own pattern, which I do not feel confident enough doing. I'm willing to spend as long as it takes, I'm serious about having it look good. But even though I've done quite a bit of research it still seems there's a lot to learn. Sorry for the noobish questions, but if any of you veterans could help me out it'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

Don't do a jsk or op if you don't even know how to sew. Start with something simple, like an apron or circle skirt, working with elements of clean design and just getting a feel for things. Then practice lining things. Grab old dresses from the thrift store and pull them apart with the seam ripper and put them back together again. Or get large skirt or dresses from the thrift store and alter it to fit you.

>> No.6519174

>>6519139
Try looking up rectangle skirts. Pretty simple, just keep in mind that your hem length should end up being 2.5 times your waist measurement. Anything less and you won't be able to fit a petticoat or get the correct shape. When you shop for fabric avoid symphony broadcloth. Even though it's cotton it wrinkles and looks terrible.

I really like kimono fabric and lots of traditional japanese clothing but most of what I see combined with lolita are terrible wa loli things.. are there any not terrible wa lolita dresses? Or other cool kimono print dresses?

That's... so garish. I mean, its traditional japanese pattern, but that's a combination of yabane and flower prints that i haven't seen on a kimono and would think was ugly as shit if I DID see it on a kimono.

My question is, why does all wa-loli go for the repeating stuff instead of doing stuff patterned more after houmongi or tomesode; things that localize prints to a the bottom hem and like, the collar/sleeves.

I think it would just look so much better.

Oh I'd also recomend going through lolibrary or hellolace and bookmarking brand items you like. Then you can get an idea of what design elements you'd like to put on your own skirt.

I just googled lolita rectangle skirt and this tutorial was like the first result, the good thing about it is that you don't have to worry about sewing in a zipper. If you use the full elastic waist make sure your blouse looks good untucked or you can alter it to a half elastic skirt. http://www.otheramusements.com/2008/05/making-rectangle-skirt.htmleSTlctio 1/4

I second everyone's recommendation that you start with a rectangle skirt. When you are ready to start with bodices, you may be more comfortable modifying a commercial pattern, then attach a rectangle skirt.
Some decent patterns to steal bodices from:

A different anon, but I do NOT recommend New Look 6457. The sizing is all wrong (I'm 36-27 and size 6 - the smallest size - was still way too big) and the front/back pieces are much shorter than the sides so there's an issue there.

I also have questions about handmade lolita clothing. I adore classical art prints such as the ones jetj make, but how do they make their fabric? My confusion stems from how their fabric is like, a single motif on the bodice, but there can also be horizontal print on the skirt... Eg http://juliette-et-justine.com/detail/835
On spoonflower, fabric comes in squares of repeating print, and to make clothes as described above I imagine some extremely deft designing and a lot of wasted fabric would be involved. Am I just being very dense/ignorant of how fabric is manufactured or is it in fact made another way?

>> No.6521499

If you are a classic/gothic, you need a-line (shaped like an A)

Sweet, cupcake (shaped like... well you get it)

Why is it people seem to have so much trouble with petticoats? Are they really that confusing? This is like the number 1 most asked about topic in lolita

>> No.6521502

>>6521484
Well, what shape do you want? More bell-shape or A-line? Most people really like the classical puppets bell shaped petti, it is good under lightweight skirts but deflates under anything heavier like velvet/wool fabrics. If you want A-line, their A line one is amazing (the one that qutieland call the "A shape fluffy petticoat). Depending on which one you want and what shopping service you use, they will set you back around $30+shipping

Victoriangirldress on ebay is also another good place to get petticoats and is cheaper than classical puppets. They are 'children's sized' but size XXL/11-16 stretches to 40" in the waistband (but is best for about 23"-30" waist), they start at $12 + shipping (usually $10 worldwide) or you can get slightly poofier ones from them that are about $20

>> No.6521503

>>6521484
I've seen some people who had some bad experiences with classical puppets. Honestly, I really think it depends on a few things. What style are you planning on wearing? What's your body shape? I pretty much just wear a modified square dance petticoat (a-line) with just about everything and it does the job and doesn't deflate plus it was cheap. But the bell shape isn't very flattering on me (large bust, wide shoulders). A lot of people go with Malco Modes 580. As long as you get something made of organdy/organza and not tulle, you should be fine.

I think the biggest detriment to westerners wearing wa-loli, besides the dearth of quality in the more easily obtainable wa-loli is that westerners tend to not put so much focus on hair and makeup, same problem when westerners wear kimono. If you're going to wear something so out there/exotic, you really need to play up the hair and makeup, the best bet is to try and emulate the gyaru when they wear kimono.

That's just like, my opinion though. I'd never try to wear wa lolita or kimono because I know I couldn't pull it off.

So my Baroque Missing Letter Keys and Rabbit skirt arrived today and I just opened it. Truth be told I'm kind of disappointed.
I ordered the blue colorway but irl the color is so different to all of the images I have previously seen of it. The whole thing has this really yellow tinge to it, the white in the print is not very vibrant and the redy/orange bows are far more orange than I expected. I know colors will vary but this has just really let me down.

Plain black or white blouses with lolita?

I have frilly lolita shirts in cream and pink but for black and white I just wear plain well-fitted shirts. Is this really bad?
The white one has a rounder, peter pan collar and puffed sleeves but the black one is just long sleeved and well fitted. I've been doing it for years now but I've only realised people might have been judging me the whole time.

The problem is girls get caught up in wig fever, and instead of honing their coordination skills and concentrating on the actual required elements of a lolita coord, they buy the newest split twin tail wig from GLW and then have no idea how to coordinate

What "pointers"? Get some pink/brown/red accessories and wear them. You could use red or brown or white as an accent color.

It's really not that difficult if you know how to dress yourself.

It doesn't matter what color your hair is, btw, as long as it isn't dyed blue or something it will be fine. You don't need a pink wig or something.

He's a normal, straight male outside of it, and I was wondering if we really had to go to all the trouble of uhhh "tucking" in women's underwear, or if you could just go briefs/boxer briefs under a petti and bloomers and call it good.

Mine has the yellow tint too (I ordered the black colorway) so I think it's just how it is. I got the JSK version and while I do love it, the print isn't the clearest and the tint is a bit weird. I was also really disappointed because she sent me the wrong color beret (the one for the blue colorway instead of the wine beret) and forgot my headbow. I contacted her about it right away with pics and she replied really quickly so communication wasn't an issue, and has said she's sending me the correct beret and headbow. The only time there has been a lack in communication was when she was sending out tracking numbers, because I had to send her an email asking where it was and I saw someone on the facebook page asking for theirs so it seems like she was a bit late with tracking numbers. My dress actually turned up the day after I asked for my number, so it was kind of redundant.

I'll take some pics of the dress later if people still want to see the weird coloration.

Rosaire doesn't seem like a scammer, but I find her whole "I can't ship for weeks but I can trawl Closet Child every day or two looking for items to post on my page" super off-putting. If you're too unwell to ship stuff that people have paid for, how are you well enough to go window shopping?

I give a window of two weeks because I never know when I am going to wake up and not be able to get out of bed. It isn't "weeks" it's "within two weeks" and I also say that if you have a deadline, I can make arrangements to ship so you get your items by that deadline. Also, 90% of the items on my page are via private sale, not Closet Child.

The only people waiting to have their things sent are people who bought through auctions and I don't have all their items yet, or LPs I ordered online. If you read the group, I said I would be shipping next week. At least include all of the information if you're going to criticize me.

I'm >>6528148 again. Took a few pics. Overall, I'm very happy with this JSK. The print is nice and fairly clear apart from the pearls, although I think they are drawn like that to make them look shiny and spherical. Personally, I don't like the way the waistband isn't attached to the dress but that's more of a personal preference. Some people might like that it comes off completely. Both bows come off too. Construction is fine, I haven't found any problems or flaws with it. The print does have a yellow-ish tint to it, but it's not overly so.

As for service from Baroque, they did mix up my order and sent me the wrong color beret (blue instead of wine) and forgot my headbow but I contacted Mana with pictures right away and she replied within 24hrs and is sending me the correct beret and the headbow. My doctors keep thinking I have it, but the tests keep coming back clean so they just scratch their heads. Get your B12 checked ASAP as well as ferritin and folate. Can cause major unrelenting fatigue, and permanent nerve damage. Good luck!

>>6529662
The thyroid shouldn't be a problem, meds pretty much take care of that completely. It's also hardly ever true - most everyone says it as an excuse If it was true and un-treated, she definitely wouldn't be going out for extra curricular activities, there's just no way to function around that if un-treated.
As for the nerves, it hurts like fuck (I too have peripheral and autonomic nerve damage) but it doesn't cause fatigue.
I hope if she is really sick she is getting treatment. I mean, shit is difficult, but honestly don't put yourself in a stressful situation if you can't handle it at the moment. Your well being is much more important than making money on the side - I'm assuming that this isn't her primary job.

Exercise more, eat healthier not necessarily less especially more fiber to keep you fuller longer. Water constantly as well as tea.

I think it's pretty low that her weight would be on the ~reasons why she shouldn't be a shopping service~ list. I don't see what that has to do with anything, meds or no meds.

I've used rosaire as a shopping service twice now, and she is not a scammer. She refunded me via Paypal when she couldn't get my lucky pack, and the lucky pack situation in Japan was understandably insane. I'm pretty sure everyone is aware of how the release went down by now. Trampling, snatched packs, violent pushing and shoving, the works.

As for the not refunding thing, she never said she wouldn't refund people -- she said that she may not be able to do so via Paypal, and may need to use other means to send the money back to people. I don't think this was exceptionally unreasonable, even though I guess it might be an inconvenience for some people.

If you really want to, then do it. I tried her out because her fees were lower than japonica, so I was prepared to deal with less-than-professional service. Personally, I've used her service once since a friend also decided to try her out for lucky pack. I haven't gotten my items yet but I know she has purchased them, and she's been very straight forward about when she is going to ship, so I have no false impressions about what she will and won't do as a shopping service.

The first time someone complained about lacetreasures/rosaire was August 30th, buttmad that she got to a Midsummer Night jsk at CC and "scalped" it by which I mean she put it up for auction and it sold for $520

Vendettachan could possibly be one of the people who lost the auction, though we have no idea who could have sent her anonymous bids, or it could be someone so bitter they didn't bid at all (very likely).

So, I'm sorry you didn't get your dress v-chan but maybe you should just get over it and move on before we find out who YOU are and post YOU to getoffegl.

I'm also assuming that the $520 number is where vchan is getting her $600 figure from because how does i rounding.

But vchan said that it was an in-store purchase of a plain Angelic Pretty dress, didn't she?

Didn't rosaire just get into a tiff with m_miu because m_miu was allowed to post her "oh I can buy this stuff from closet child!" post on egl_comm_sales but rosaire wasn't? I wonder if m_miu is pissed off.

Vchan says a lot of things, but I'll see if I can't find more.

All she did was comment that taking pictures in closet child is against the rules.

JET will shove you down in rural area, too. Happened to a friend of mine through JET, terrible experience of being stranded in Japan without a car to get around. Be wary.

My friend just left through a private company, and they hooked her the fuck up. Fully furnished apartment, not even in a rural area.
But she has too much experience to fuck around with companies like JET. I heard you don't even need to be fluent to work with them.

I already do that. Then unpin it for my IW, but sometimes it slides and peeks; I'd like something easier for days when I just don't feel like messing with it.

That's clearly not her, the typing style is totally different, moron.

Out of curiosity how short does the average JSK (93-95 cm length) sit on other 5"7 inch girl? It's not even that tall and they are so damn short on me, borderline being indecent short. I have to go with IW long JSKS which sit just at my knee. Feel like there's something weird going on with my proportions or how the JSKs sit on me

Does anybody have any photos of what print damage looks like? I have a printed skirt and the print looks a little weird. I'm not sure if it's supposed to look like that or if it's some kind of damage.
