How do you deal with people insulting you at cons?

I know it sounds petty, but it can really hurt sometimes. I went to an /a/ meetup and basically got ignored and called a slut because of my cosplay (just an ordinary sailor venus).

I know I sound petty, but I want to deal with these things better in the future.

Well, your first mistake was going to an /a/ meet and cosplaying .. Actually, even just being female makes /a/ mad so yeah, sorry you had to go trough that.

But the best thing you can do is to try and ignore it. If their insults don't have any truth (like calling you fat when you're fit, saying you're a slut even though you know you're not), then all you can do is let it be. So what if some random stranger thinks something of you, if you and the people you care know it's not true?

Sorry if I'm not much of a help. But whatever you do, don't reply them or show that you mind. They're only doing it to be assholes and don't really care if it's true or not, as long as they get a reaction out of you.

Too slowly. When I was in a bunny suit some ugly guy screeched that I had camel toe (didn't) and some fat mall goths called me a trap. I was sad at first and angry too, but then I laughed because both people insulting me were undesirable as fuck and felt like picking on someone they probably felt threatened by (who knows, I am no psychologist). I probably also looked clearly uncomfortable because I felt really awkward once I was actually wearing the damn thing in public because you can literally feel people's eyes following you. I've never heard of /a/ meetups, but sometimes you run into "informal" /a/ meetups at conventions where a bunch of people from /a/ talk outside of /a/ and decide to bring every one of the /a/nons in an area together. I've been to a few of those, but there's never any girls.

There's one or two girls I can think of from /a/ who aren't chased out of any thread on site, but they both started out posting as men and contributing tons to the board before someone figured out they were 3DPD. They're grandmothered in as honorary males.

That's my first post on /cgl/ I just wanted to see what is going on here.

I'm a fan of some anime and videogames myself but I really don't understand why people would dress up as these characters.Too be honest when I was younger I used to laugh at such people when I met them.You realize that you will never look like the character you are trying to imitate? It seems like you want to be someone else ,like you are escaping from your true self.Sometimes it really looks ridiculous, anime/vidya-character are wearing these clothes/having this hairstyle because they aren't real,it is possible for them to look like this.Pretty much everyone who isn't cosplaying himself will have a weird look once they spot you.You try to live as a subculture from Japan,if you aren't there it's not appropiate.I'm not dressing up in a Sombrero and drink Tequila in public places when I'm in Norway either.

Believe me I'm not trolling and I don't want to insult anyone,I just don't understand why people are doing this.

If you're being obnoxious and get called out for it, then you're the one at fault, but if it's unprovoked, realize that you're the better person here, and just try to find something else to do (if only for a bit).
