As someone who is really fat, a lot of it is total delusion. Like i will look down at my body and don't think i'm that massive, but if i see a photo of me which shows my whole body, it's fucking horrible and then reality hits, like fucking hell i am huge. Some advice
1) Most heavy folks diet consists mostly of snack foods. They're hungry b/c they eat low-nutrion junk and they're fat cause it's full of fat, sugar, and salt. Take the time to cook meat and prepare solid meals. The process of cooking alone, smelling the food being prepared, makes you less hungry.

2) Exercise. Look up a park in your area and go for a walk once a day. Do push-ups, bicycle curls, cherry-picks, etc.

3) If you know anyone who exercises more enlist they're help. It's more fun and habit-forming as a social venture.

Former fatty here, and I've gotten a lot of flack for being fat and ugly cosplaying every neckbeard's wettest dream (despite making sure I picked versions that were modest and/or altering the design a bit to work better on me, no bikinis here, I stayed modest).

I did it out of love for the character and series. I did it to be a fellow nerd, to have fun with friends and have a good time. I have never been out to advertise myself or get attention. I don't fucking care because I do it for my own enjoyment.

When I first got the negative comments, it really fucking hurt and I wanted to quit. Then when I realized it's a bunch of sweaty neckbeards with orange dorito fingers typing away in their basement wishing they too could go out and have a good time. I realized, they aren't worth my time.

I'm super happy with my progress and I feel healthy and energetic these days. I sort of thought I did before.. which illustrates the problem. A cousin I used to stay over with when my parents fought liked all the classic anime series (Sailor Moon, Ranma ½, DB, DBZ, Saint Seya, etc) and she had them all recorded on VCR tapes.

During middle school, this place called Animate! opened up near my house where a bunch of kids from that neighborhood would gather on weekends and watch an anime series. As everyone knows, most weight gain is slow and creeping.
It's more like they have a few days of the week where they eat well and then have a few bad days where they eat junk and don't exercise adequately to make up for the weight gain. Which translates to anywhere between half a pound to a pound per week in weight gain.
So over the course of two months, a person could gain 8-10 pounds and not necessarily realize that they've put on the weight if they haven't been exercising right and had a few too many 'cheat' days.

The reason why we have this obesity problem is that so many people shove this opinion of 'laziness' down everyone's throats when the reality is it's a progressive disease that can be exacerbated by a few tiny mistakes over a long period of time.

I know, and there's a perfectly logical explanation for why they do that: Their body is working against them to save as much energy as possible. Because for the super obese, even simple tasks like walking 100 meters or going up a flight of stairs is a workout.

Now sitting doesn't count.
Nor does breathing.
The amount of energy your body burns at rest is calculated into someone's BMR (basal metabolic rate).
So for example if I'm 5'3 and 200 my BMR (or the calories I burn at rest) is 1722.
Whereas if I was 120 it is 1374.
And this is because for reasons that you've stated.

Still, if I burn 1722 calories from sitting alone, and I need a diet reduction between 1200-1500 calories a day to lose around a pound a week, then eating 3000 calories is over 1000 calories more than my body can burn alone without exercise. And there are 3500 calories in one pound of fat. So in three days I would have gained a pound. And in a week I could gain two.

So I guess my point with this is that if a 5'3 200 person gains 10-20 pounds a year gradually, they haven't been eating 3000 calories per day consistently, because if they were then they would've had a weight gain more like 50 pounds or higher. Unless they have some super rare metabolic condition.
But for the most part weight gain is gradual and most people don't notice. You could be 180 one year and then two years later find yourself at 200 because you gained 10 pounds a year.

This whole thread is ridiculous. Everyone seems to have the impression that it's only men who decide beauty standards when women contribute just as much to them if not more. If you develop any sort of mental complex that prevents you from functioning normally in a social sphere there's therapy for that. Okay. When I put on a costume it's usually because I want to be different. I don't want to be the center of attention, but I definitely want others to notice me. If I want to partake in the revelry or celebration of a work of art or celebration, there's more ways than one other than putting on an outfit, like conversing with others. Also, I'm sure these same people are aware of their "issue" so they cosplay knowing full well what the repercussions of doing so are. If, ultimately, they simply want to dress as a character they like then they have to be aware of whether or not they will be made fun of depending on how well they execute it, especially if your body size does not match the character you are dressing up as.

Plenty of women are attracted to this. But more then that, it's the traditional idealized male image.
Women are more diverse in their tastes when it comes to physical traits in a partner, no two women like the exact same thing generally. No one can just give a universal image for a the perfect sexy man, because of varying tastes.

Men like the same physical traits on the whole, it's easy to please the vast majority of them in that regard.
It's the opposite when it comes to personality; no two men share the ideal woman. Some like dumb bimbo's, some like assertive dominant girls and some like 'em ditzy but intelligent.
