Finally have a chance to sit down and type my story.

I wore lolita to an amusement park today.

Things were going pretty nice, no one was acting nasty towards me. Got called a princess for the first time ever and a second and third time later on.

Halfway through the day we took a break and a group of teenage girls sat next to us. I had this feeling they were talking about me, as I overheard something like:

"Then she walks onto the schoolyard like this" and they started prancing and doing silly princessy stuff in a really mocking way. After a while they stood almost in front of us heckling and pointing and making remarks. My protective/aggressive sister yelled something back at them and they walked away in shame.

Nothing too bad, still made me feel bad. But things got worse. While standing in line for a ride a few ladies behind us started saying nasty stuff about me (according to my sister and later on about her too). One of their kids kicked me. My sis almost exploded.

My little sister wanted to put on some pants because it was getting cold. While my older sister helped her, I saw a few people closing in. This one guy walked by and I heard spitting sounds.

I really wanted to go home then, as someone spit on me. As soon as I came home I took a hot shower and put on some simple clothes. I don't think I'll be wearing lolita for a while.

Gurl, you should've called them out on it.

You know what? You're right. If you're going to act like a pussy, then this fashion probably isn't for you.

That's horrible. How does someone find it in themselves to spit on someone? People just stick to this high school mentality that if something is different I have to go out of my way to be rude and disgusting.

Teenage girls always seem like the ones that make fun of different fashions the most.
Gurl, half of you look like you just rolled out of bed with your messy buns, Uggs, and Love Pink sweatpants and no one says anything to you. I wore this headband to the mall the other day and I heard some 14 year old say it looked like something out one of the Saw films. I don't even think she's seen any of those movies...

But don't let that stop you, Darling. There are so many people out there who will honestly admire your creativity and style. Just remember that you can wear the plainest of jeans or blandest of shirts and people will always judge you and always find something negative to point out. You're only going to have one life, might as well do and wear what you think is beautiful.

I remember flagging down a girl dressed in OTT sweet with some tasteful cybergoth elements for a picture at a con once. She actually looked pretty damn good, considering I hated both styles at the time.

I'm pretty sure the poor thing thought I was making fun of her, since she didn't say anything and just stood there with a half smile while I took the picture. I was also really excited at actually seeing a loli outside of the internet, and apparently my excitement is easily misconstrued as aggression. I'd post the pic in question, but it got wiped a while ago and I can't find the SD card it's on.

Just last week, I was coming back from a cherry blossom festival with my friends, we went to get something to eat and while I was waiting for my food, this one black lady calls her children over so they could take a picture with me.
The girls look at me and they're like 'who is that?' clearly not interested--or so it seemed to me--but their Mother was telling them to come take a picture with me either way.
I didn't refuse or anything, but I do dislike it when parents try to use their kids as an excuse to get a picture of Lolitas.
After that, we were walking toward the train station and this lady with a stroller looks at me and asks me if she can take a picture of me with her baby. I stand next to the stroller and right as she was taking the picture, she was like 'a picture of the two babies!' (No bonnet required for that comment.)

Nothing terrible, just something to tell.

Last week saw someone dressed in lolita at my uni, they were doing a costume shoot at uni (my uni is AUB in the UK) but one girl was dressed wearing a bodyline skirt and I dunno what else as I was really busy. Yesterday I saw someone who looked like they were kinda wearing lolita... But they were really dressed victorian inspired with a huge amount of poof or they were ita cause their skirt was a bit short and their clothes looked a bit poor quality. I nearly got excited last week until I realised this girl who I thought was wearing rockinghorse shoes was actually just wearing wedges.. I did see about 2 weeks ago someone around the local area wearing the Chocolate Rosette salopette (not lolita but still a print) walking their dog, they looked cute!

EX - WAIT FOR IT - ZACTLY.

If you're worried about resale value, you are too poor to be buying brand. If your long-term financial plan depends on you being able to re-sell an expensive piece of clothing, it is too expensive for you to be buying right now.

Plus, weed smoke is not as "sticky" as cigarette smoke, so to speak. Not trying to stir up a drug debate but it's very easy to eliminate the smell of marijuana from your clothes. So you could still wear your clothes to church or whatever you feel guilty about.

>> No.6815920

? pot smoke is not the same as cigarette smoke and there are things called Dry Cleaning/Freezing/Etc that completely remove the smell (specifically for cigarette smoke, freezing kills the odor causing bacteria). Man some of the stores I read about girls in public make me pretty happy to have not received such a horrible experience quite yet.
Don't get me wrong, the teasing and slandering and awkward stares do happen and I feel as though I am dwindling on the fine line between socially acceptable and downright wrong, but really all the negative attention only comes from wearing sweet lolita in public (as opposed to most of the more 'socially acceptable' responses I get in classic lolita).

I guess I could share just one story though to help out with some of the negative ones that are going to flood here :
>Be in High School, years ago
>Wear some classic lolita
>Go to pizza place/ restaurant with dad
>People staring at me weird
>Wait for our order
>Waitress comes, has a huge smile on her face
>"Oh I wanted so bad to see your outfit! The people in the back said a girl was dressed differently in the front so I wanted to see! You must be one of those gothic lolitas huh! From Japan?"
>Can't help but smile, inform her I'm from the states
>She compliments my dress
>Day was made

I do not mean to sound so rude, anon. But perhaps you did not read my post thoroughly?
I had already suggested wearing sweet lolita was dwindling on the line between socially acceptable and not being socially acceptable.

I am not a sweet lolita by nature, more of a classic and gothic lolita. But I know when things are too outrageous to be worn on a day to day basis while carrying out daily routines so, I tend to treat myself in the fashion when eating at restaurants or going to special events with friends (like the movies), worn only at those times.

That and I was merely responding to prior posters and their own experiences.

Adding on. Like >>6816244 said people do get assaulted.

Why? Because their clothing is different. Anyone who dresses differently is treated badly regardless of how nice they are, and I'm sick of that. What I'm proposing is that we should stand up for ourselves and others, so that people begin to treat us better. So that we can all express ourselves freely and safely.

All we want to do is wear frillies. It'd be great if we could do that without getting harassed or hurt for it. If we stand up for ourselves once in a while, maybe we can live to see that day.

The other however day I was waiting outside a shop for my friend in regular sweet with a short pink/brown wig. Some middleaged guy zeros in on me, rushes over and asks me if i'm german. I was worried at first he was coming to shout at me or something as he looked vaguely angry, so I burst out laughing, deny being German and ask him why he would think something like that. He wont tell me, so we proceed to stand there in the longest awkward silence ever before he holds out his hand like he wants to shake mine. I hold mine out and instead he strokes my hand and leaves.
It was so fucking bizarre.

Just because you have $300 to spend on a dress, it doesn't mean you're throwing that money around. Even if you have the money to throw around, why would you want to risk ruining it? It's generally not easy to acquire a lot of prints and it's not like "oh I ruined it I guess I'll just buy another"

As I stated above, if you are worried about ramifications BEYOND temporary disappointment and frustration, you are too poor. Obviously ruining a difficult-to-replace dress would be upsetting. Here I'm mostly talking to people who would cite the issue of resale value though. I'm of the opinion that if your financial stability hinges on being able to sell a dress at an unknown future date, you're in worse trouble than just trying to replace a dress.

>> No.6816507

I've never worn lolita in public because I'm not a lolita, but I have people randomly meet me and tell me they've seen me around and they love my lolita clothes/style. I mean, I'm glad they are at least on the right track and are being nice, but the most lolita thing I own is tea party style shoes. A girl I'm friends with now was insisting I dress in lolita when I first met her, even though I was trying to say I don't own anything that's actually lolita. I just let it go because she's foreign and I didn't want to seem like a jerk.

So yeah, I don't know where you guys live that you get all this flack, but young people here seem to have a general idea of what it (or Japanese fashion, I guess) is. My outfits can get pretty ridiculous to a normie, but the worst I've had is someone laugh at my floral coat to her friend, who didn't laugh with her, and I'm not sure if she was even being mean. Lots of people just smile and run up to me and stuff because they think I'm cute, so it might have been along the same lines. Older people compliment me a lot too, and I've gotten "it's so nice to see a girl dressed like a lady" multiple times.

Oh, my apologies. I should've given more details but my post felt really long already. When that little boy kicked me, I felt something against my skirt. I was focusing on my little sister and my petti probably protected me so I didn't relate it to a kick. Also because kids bump into people while standing in lines very often due to their excitement.

My sister told me this later on as I didn't notice what was going on. She asked the boy very sternly if he thought it was funny. His mom apparently looked angrily at her and the kid was quiet.

The man spitting on me? My honest apologies, I should clarify that situation a bit.

I was very tired and English isn't my native language so I didn't get my point across very well.

I didn't do anything because I wasn't 100% sure he did spit on me. I was standing with my back turned against the people walking by. I think he spit on me or at least tried. But considering I wasn't sure, I decided to stay calm. I'm quite the doormat though, so yeah you're right.

Despite everything that happened, I had a lot of positive reactions too and a great day. There were a few girls that wanted to know about a statue in the park. I politely explained them that you could buy special park coins there, as a souvenir. That's when they started gushing over my stuff, especially my circle lenses. One of the girls came really close to check them out, haha.

If that's your main concern when wearing your clothing, then yes, your money might be better spent elsewhere. If you own something that expensive and you're not sure if you actually like it, you might be concerned about that too though; there are plenty of situations in which resale value might be important to you other than being poor. Also you can't really judge anyone's financial situation other than your own, and it's pretty ignorant to make any assumptions based on something like wanting to resell a dress. tl;dr who gives a shit it's their money

Here we go. This all takes place in Sausalito, California. At the time I was working at a local shop there. Decided to wear my Sweet Lolita...

>Wearing lolita in general for the first time in public basically.
>Get lots of compliments and questions from international and local customers.
>Smile, this day is great.
>Some creepy, short, fat, older guy walks in.
>Asks for picture. "S-sure, I guess!"

>Can't wait until he walks out of store.
>Luckily high traffic, I wasn't too scared because of that. Couple made weird faces at me in sympathy.
>Go on with day. Have lunch break. Walk outside to local pizza shop for lunch.
>Lots of compliments and pictures. I am so thrilled and happy. It seemed a lot of people were enjoying it!
>Coming back from lunch, ran into the same guy outside the cafe two doors down from my work.
>"Hi again, can I take your picture again please?"
>"I have to get back to work."
>"It won't take long! Please! You're so beautiful!"
>"O-okay." I pose for him really quick with a smile. I am confident, I figure a picture is harmless. Right? Start to walk towards work.
>Barely hear this over the crowd. "I'm making a calendar of beautiful girls, you'll look so pretty in it!"
>That is when I was freaked out and creeped out for sure.
>Luckily, never ever saw that bastard again. Looks like he was just visiting... Thank god.

I moved from the area about a month after anyway. He seemed like a huge child, all he basically could spout out how beautiful I was. So I just took it all with a pinch of salt and that I was making his day. Shit didn't get funky until he said he was making a calendar. o_o

But if any of you see a calendar with a sweet lolita in Dreamy Pony JSK, I would like to know... But I have a feeling it is just for his personal use, considering the 5 year old shitty camera he was using.

Some guy takes an upskirt picture of me, I was wearing long bloomers underneath, and he said something like this "What, pants? What's the use of wearing a skirt when you wear pants underneath? Then guys can't see your underwear!?" I was speechless and he then walked away with the most puzzled, bewildered look on his face while staring at his camera's little screen. I think the statement should be regardless of what the person is wearing it is no reason to be outright rude. To anyone. For whatever reason. Snicker to your friends, fine. I rarely stand up for myself in public because once someone has crossed the first boundary of socially acceptable behavior you don't know how far they're going to go.

Someone willing to scream at other people in public is clearly a few screws loose and you can't win a fight with crazy.

I'm also paranoid about confronting strangers--my cousin once walked next door to bitch at the neighbor about how his dogs were destroying the property fence and the neighbor no-shit almost beat her to death. Over a goddamn fence.

People are crazy; dry-cleaning is cheaper that hospital bills for a cracked skull and dislocated shoulder.

Resale isn't about the owner getting money, it's the idea that the dress is community property. You see this is a lot in communities with "collectable" kinds of items.

You're not going to wear that dress for the next 10 years and give it to goodwill, you're going to wear it for three and then resell it. If it's fucked up, you ruined someone else's dress. I see this in BJD, MLP, lolita, Batman collectables--people genuinely feel you're "stealing" something from other future owners by modding/using the item.

Is that rational? Can't say. But that's what people mean when they say "Think of the resell" what they really mean is, "Think of the next owner".

Lastly, I get upset when I fuck up a 25 cent pen, just because I have the money to buy another and it's easily accessible doesn't mean I'm some asshole that feels a need to break everything I have.

I have all pretty good experiences. Lots of times wearing lolita in public with the local comm, on dates, to church, and recently to the local college I attend. The midwest is actually a pretty good place to live when it comes to this sort of thing. When people are rude, it is usually just really amusing and funny (their behavior), nothing serious. But still, it's probably always best for a girl to travel with a friend since there is always a chance of running into a major creeper, but this applies to everyone.

I still feel kinda embarrassed about this even though it happened like 2-3 years ago..
I was at work when two lolitas came in. I was working at a Sanrio at the time and I had just started getting into lolita, and had just bought my first dress (off-brand from QTLand, like a fool). Two beautiful girls came in wearing AP. They bought a few things and I was trying to keep my cool as I was ringing them out, making small talk.
Apparently I was acting a little weirder and spazzier than I thought; telling them I just bought my first dress and I love their cords and stuff, etc, just acting really excited, clingy and weird.
Later that day I found out it was that Victoria Suzanne: Lolita Charm girl (back when it was a thing), and her BFF Miss_Lumpy/Magic Ala Mode or whatever girl.
It dawned on me that I could have befriended some ~*~*PoPuLaRR!!1!!*~*~ lolitas if I weren't such a socially awkward-ed beta.

I've only seen two lolitas in public. I saw this girl a few times on the way to university. She always looked so cute and I really wanted to talk to her but I knew I would be really awkward and weird so I never tried. But I saw this other girl come into my job last year. She was wearing AP's Fantastic Dolly in lavender (one of my favorite prints and colorway) and I couldn't help myself. I honest to god freaked out since I've never seen that print in person, I'm not a lolita but I adore the fashion, and she freaked out over the way I was dressed (I was wearing himekaji) and we just got so excited to meet people that KNOW about something that takes up a good chunk of your time. Anyways, we're really good friends now. I just went over her house last week and she showed me all of her dresses and skirts and even let me try on a few. I might try lolita and it makes me feel comfortable that I have a stylish friend who can help me out

There are three Lolitas at my college. My college is a women's college near a co-ed school. Most people here wear normal clothes, a few try to be /fa/ (especially the /lgbt/ crowd), some are in gym clothes but usually dress pretty normally. There's a group of weirdos that cosplay every fucking day, and I mean, "make a cosplay out of what's in your cosplay" quality, even for cons.

There are other cosplayers but they keep it on the DL, have awesome cosplays at cons, and during the school year/off season/whatever you guys call it, are just normal.

My friends and I dress normally, even though we lurk /cgl/ and /fa/.

The three Lolitas:

1. Milanoo Lolita. She's also /lgbt/ and wears lots of random rainbow accessories. Not pastel rainbow, though, bright rainbow petticoats, toe socks, the whole nine yards. Her normal look is all black stuff from Hot Topic, mixed with whatever bright rainbow accessories she can find. Her Lolita stuff from Milanoo is really low quality. Back when I came to the college and met her, and she was looking for good stuff to buy, she found Milanoo and I mentioned I'd heard bad things about the site. She didn't care, got some really bad looking sateen monstrosities, and looks fucking terrible in Lolita, which she wears almost weekly. She's pretty ita and pretty annoying. She's convinced other people to try her Milanoo-tastic Lolita and yesterday, at a college party, a bunch of them were all wearing really shiny, ruffly Lolita dresses, even though for graduation, white plain cotton dresses are traditional, not Lolita.

>> No.6819200

>>6819197

2. Bodyline Hippie Lolita. She wears a bob with bangs and only wears circus-style prints. She wears a lot of Bodyline, owns no brand, and is an SJW. She's also annoying as fuck. Example, in the cafeteria, she'll knock into people with her petticoats instead of waiting for a crowd to disperse. She wears Lolita every day, everywhere, including to gym class. Somebody in her gym class told me she wears Doc Marten boots (the only kinds of shoes she wears, oxblood, whether or not dark red goes with the coord), bloomers, and a ruffle top to class. She also wears elements of Lolita to work, even though she's a lunch lady. She doesn't do ladylike stuff, ever, and yesterday, at the all-white cotton dresses event, she wore gray Lolita.

3. Good Lolita. She wears brand but doesn't brag about it (vs. Bodyline Lolita bragging about Bodyline), is ladylike, and very nice when people ask about her coords. She has normal friends and isn't a fucking weirdass. She wears a wig and makeup when she goes Lolita, which the other girls do not do.

And I guess, honorary mention goes to Slutty Lolita, my friend who owns a few Alice and the Pirates pieces but treats them badly. She's a fatty-chan and the pieces do not fit her but she doesn't want to lose the weight to fit in.

I'm too tall and busty (not a fatty chan though) to do Lolita.

>> No.6819204

I guess a bit more about the shitty Lolitas, other than them wearing shitty outfits (no makeup, no wig) on the daily, as well as being shitty people in general:

In every pic they weeb out, peace sign and squint eyes included.

They both claim to be queen of Lolita when they're not part of any comms. Other girls at the college, other than Good Lolita, are part of comms and just do it over winter/summer breaks, but these girls don't do it ever.

Both try to stuff Lolita or cosplay into 100% of what they do.

Both want to move to Japan.

I have been to Japan twice once dressed mostly as a tourist and once mostly dressed as a lolita. I'm super white- blonde hair blue eyes white- so overall Japanese people will be nice and mostly kinda "Oh non-japanese person, you so silly not knowing things" as long as you make an effort to be respectful and polite and not loud and obnoxious- overall positive experiences.

That being said SO MANY more people were nice and went out of their way to talk to my friend and I when we were in lolita vs. touristy clothing. Shop-staff in lolita stores were more attentive even when we weren't wearing the brand of the store we were in. Random strangers would come up to us and help the poor confused Americans on the subway more frequently. It was overall a better experience in lolita than in more regular tourist clothing. That being said prepare for a ton of sneeky photos, odd looks, and sometimes comments (as a blonde I heard "Alice-Chan" a lot).

These were my experiences and mostly in Tokyo, others may have different ones.

I saw a "lolita" at the earls court pet show today.

I don't think she was wearing a petti, and she was wearing a leather jacket, and a hood with ears. It was really bad.

I'll be with a bunch of other lolitas (or at least a couple). I'll probably just keep quiet and let them speak for me.

I saw a bunch today, the really weeby kind. All fatty-chans and do not know how to properly put wigs on, I can see their real hair slipping underneath.
One was wearing a very messy yoko wig paired with a long white dress and a shitty corset, and the others in their typical clothing but with wigs. They were squeeing over animu merchandises (all bootlegs, I was at Chinatown).

I wouldn't say you spazzed or screwed up, I love it when people try to show they understand what I wear.
I had a girl yesterday say "I love your circle lenses" and my reaction was "OMG you know what circle lenses are!"

Another time a girl in normal clothes asked "Is that dress Baby the Stars Shine Bright?" as I crossed O'Connell Street. I nearly walked into the Spire I was so surprised, I dunno, it's like the Normal People had reached out and accepted me, I had a serious case of the Warm Fuzzies all day.

You sound really cute. I know the first time I ever saw anyone wearing J-Fashion, I... em, I... followed them for about a half a city block before I copped on to myself and went back to my own business.

So what do people do when this kind of thing happens:

>out in lolita
>a girl comes up and says 'I love lolita, oh gosh!'
>can tell she is really interested but has zero knowledge other than the look and the name, asking me where I buy clothes (from China, right?)
>want to help her so bad but do not know how to unload or transfer huge dump of information within a comfortable amount of time to this person

I mean, I told her to search for hellolace to find out where you could buy stuff, but trying to explain second hand sales or even just buying from brands sites seemed to really confuse her so I just stopped myself when I saw her trying to process the info.

tl;dr how do you give out info to someone who knows just a little bit, but not enough to understand you?

direct them to a website where they can expand their knowledge. e.g. 4chan.org/cgl

I wasn't in lolita, but I was wearing gyaru. Although my friends that came were in lolita and etc. (Similarish to picture.)
>One kid came up to me and said I looked pretty, and asked my why I was dressed up.
>She said I looked like an anime character?
>I wasn't? Thanked her, and told her it was how I dress normally?
>She asked for a picture?
>Awkwardly told reiterated that this is how I normally dress...
>She walked away awkwardly...

I don't know how to politely decline pictures, I suppose. I'm sure I looked like a jerk. when I just wanted to say "no, I am just enjoying my birthday and I don't feel comfortable with you taking my picture." I don't know why I couldn't have just said it?
