so much verbal sexual assault I can't even begin to list them all. Most of the time it's when I'm walking with another girl friend who's cosplaying a much more scantily clad outfit than I. I'll use my most recent encounter as an example.

Nothing beyond weird stares and people asking me where I was going/coming from when I've been in lolita, most of the time it's when I'm in an anime or western cosplay, and it's mostly horny guys (young and old) cat calling or otherwise verbally sexually harassing me.

I was at the mall when a group of teenagers passed by and one of them said

I wasn't upset. I was just surprised. Like, seriously, the kid was decked out in sceeny-weeny clothing. You'd think they'd be more open and accepting.

Most reactions I get are just curious stares with the occasional question of why I decided to get dressed up.

Recently, I went out to run errands and some dude cat called me from his car. My outfit resembled something more of a 1950s house wife/otome-kei and was black and white. I don't get why he called me, "Baby".

I don't recall the last time that sort of thing happened, but I am currently in a college town, so I guess I should expect the occasional boy who would never grow up.

My wardrobe is mainly otome. I live near the retirement home, and I have always gotten compliments from old ladies. There's also two hambeast who would mock me everyday. They reek of smoke and dress in Ed Hardy clothes with greasy hair. They always whisper to each other and loud enough for me to hear. Things like skirt is too short, hair too long, buy so much groceries, wtf am I wearing, etc. I also see them at my local gym. They try to avoid me when I'm there though. Honestly I don't feel bad at all. I am pretty confident with myself.

I was recently out doing some food shopping in a j-fashion outfit, and an incredibly fat woman said "Speaking of freaks!" and stared pointedly at me. I was oblivious at the time but my boyfriend heard and yelled back "You're that fat and you're calling someone else a freak?" and she walked off hanging her head in shame.

Fairly tame compared to the stuff I used to get when I was a thirteen year old goff kid. I have an inkling if it was because I was terrible at dressing myself back then though.

I always get the snide "nice costume" every now and then. Not a real compliment, but the "not even bother to disguise the fact I'm actually making fun of you" kind. Where they kind of chuckle/sneer at you and jab their friend and say it massively sarcastically.
I usually reply with "thanks, you too!" really sweetly and watch them look confused.

I was on my way to a Star Wars-themed event last month and some IRL /fit/bros got on the streetcar with my group, got really confused by us and asked if we were going to do coke or meth at the party. It rustled the jimmies of some of my girls, but I couldn't tell whether the guys were joking or actually trying to be aggro. Later on the same commute, I was sitting next to a girl who was visibly PISSED OFF and glaring at me the entire time she was there. I couldn't tell if she was mad because I was skinnier with bigger boobs, or because of the 4 Sith Lords escorting me. Probably the combination of both.

I also see lots of middled-aged women giving me dirty looks, but people usually aren't willing to say shitty things to my face. If I catch any nasty glances, I usually throw them back a "u mad?" sort of look and go about my business. It's not my fault that theoe women let themselves go or that I pursued opportunities they didn't, and if they're really so petty that they need to perceive something like people in weird outfits having fun as a threat (BUT THEY MIGHT BE IN A GANG OMG!1), all I can do is laugh.

I always get tons of guys hitting on me when I'm wearing gothic or toned-down sweet. They're always ghetto guys too, most of them don't even speak my language so they try to tell me they want me to come home with them in broken english. It's pretty hilarious. A few weeks back I was wearing gothic, kind of over the top with roses and shit everywhere and huge hair, and I was in the escalator up form the subway. I was alone in the escalator, and this guy comes up behind me acting like he's gonna walk past me, but instead he stops besides me and starts hitting on me. "oooh lady you very pretty yes yes how old are you?"
I didn't wanna chat with this dude cause he was creepy as fuck, so I said I was 15 and hoped he'd go away when he found out I was young. He just told me I looked older and started creeping even more :(
I haven't been insulted or such in a long time, when I was younger lots of kids in my age would make fun of me, but I guess I look pretty frightening in gothic seeing as I'm 5'9 and always carry a sharp parasol. People don't really mess with me anymore.

Posted this before, but I was at a themepark with my sisters and some stuff went down. I was wearing a simple lolita outfit.

A young boy (9 years old or so?) kicked my leg, probably because his mom was saying nasty stuff about me and my older sister. When we were giving my 4 year old sister extra pants because it got cold later on the day, an older man walked by. Apparently he didn't appreciate me being there because he spat on me.

I only had one /blatantly/ rude comment when wearing cosplay. I was with a group of other cosplayers outside of a busy mall. We were waiting at a crosswalk when some scene/emo/whatthefuckevertheycallthemselvesnow brats were hanging out and one of them screamed at us "YOU DON'T LOOK GOOD." Just....utterly unprovoked. Some thirteen year old trying to be edgy, whatevs. Myself, dressed in a schoolgirl uniform at the time, turned towards the kid, stared blankly for a moment, then put on a big smile and my squeakiest girly-girl voice and went "You can go fuck yourself!" before crossing the street. Funnily enough, the moment we got to the other side a girl around the same age ran up and said how cute we all were, so I didn't completely lose faith in teenagers that day.

Twice I've worn it to meets/photoshoots, and had to walk back to public transport/a hostel by myself less than 10 minutes walk away from the location. I was approached/followed by old businessmen (60+) who proceeded to question me and follow me. The conversation always ended up like "you must be a prostitute/work at some unsavoury place, why else would you be wearing that? Take me there/I'm going to follow you home". I just legged it and ran.

I've noticed that the people who seem most offended by lolita outfits are middle-aged ladies and young males. The latter I kinda get, I guess, since "how dare women not look sexually attractive, that's all they're good for" seems to be a common view among them, but all those women? Old ladies like to compliment lolita, yet those 20-30 years younger often give me dirty looks as if my excessive outfit was the primary cause of starvation in third countries. I'm pretty sure it's not.

Though on the lighter note, I've recently had some teens call me "daaarkneeess" and "goff" while dressed in bittersweet. With candy-themed JSK.

Wearing loli going to Game at 10am to get my Pokemon preorder. Go out of the store, feel a sharp pain in me back and the feeling of the my game being snatched out of my hand. Smack my head off the concert floor.
Sit up and to see a staff member come up to me. Tells me not to worry, they are to call the police and security. Realise my game was missing.
A few hours later the guy apparently came back to get a refund on the game, security got called and they held him til the police came.
Never understood why he went back to the same store that sold me the game, since my sale was flagged in their system.

I wore milky planet the other day, and got mostly nice reactions. Went to gamestop and they thought it was awesome, and some guy working at Target complimented me and asked If I was going to the local con, a mother pointed at me and said to their daughter "look! a princess!" it was all pleasant.
but this one swagfag took out his iphone, took several pictures of me and chuckled. I just took out my phone, and took several pictures back. he immediately stopped and the look on his face was priceless. might even post em later.

I almost never get rude comments. I get a lot of stares and whispers but rarely a rude comment. My most frequent comment is "I like your dress"- which I now take as code for "yes, I am staring at you because you look different to what I am normally used to but I am polite and non antagonistic towards you"
I once overheard a dad saying to his little girl "do you see that princess over there?" It made me happy.
Of course there are snickers and fingers pointing but it is rare to be treated outright rudely. I get "little Bo Peep where did you leave your sheep" comments from teenage boys in moving cars sometimes, but that is the worst of it.
For reference: I live in So. California in an upper middle class area that is used to seeing alternative types. There are many well dressed retro types, goths, dyed hair and tattoos are worn by "normal people" and general fashion types around here so I am just a different shade of eccentric.

I normally avoid these threads because, well, we dress so 'out there' that it's daft to not expect these kinds of reactions.
Today was just so bizarre though, I was wearing lolita while invigilating an art space and had ridiculous amounts of praise all day, literally pinned to the spot by people taking photos to show their kids or whatever, but the moment I left the gallery space I got the standard Halloween slur and three similar calls from speeding cars on the way home.
Normally I'm pretty ignored by the masses, but today's been weird. I don't think I've ever had so much positive and negative on one day, the good weather brings out the strangest behaviour.

At my local ILD meetup this year, we had some tourist women literally just walk up into the middle of the blankets where we had everything set down, and started taking pictures of all of us without saying a word. But in the same location at a different meetup, we had a mom and her 2-year-old daughter come up, and the little girl sat down and ate cookies with us and her mom was super encouraging. Where do I start... Once I was in cpk and I was walking in a bit of a hurry. Some local children start following me asking me crap, like why I'm dressed strange if I'm going to a fancy dress party. I stupidly tell them yes because I think it'll get them off my back, which it doesn't. One tells me I'm ugly. They finally leave me alone but not before kicking a football at me and missing.

Another time I was followed home from school by three year 8 chavs who kept on being little cunts asking why I was dressed weird (we have school uniform but I had a lolita-esque skirt and hello kitty bag) and making catty remarks. I'd asked them to stop multiple times and they didn't, so eventually I punched one in the face (incredibly weakly, almost missed), to which she replied "who the fuck do you think you are".

Then once when I was in London I was in lolita and 3 different people that day decided that it was acceptable to put their hand through my hair and ask if it was real or tell me they liked it. I was wearing a wig but the point is can you not put your hand in my wig please.

I looked at her blankly in the eyes and replied "Where the fuck have you ever seen a black and white veggie?" She just loosened her grip and I got to my building safely. I think she wasn't expecting a response, but it's not like I feel intimidated by people I nearly double in age.

The last story didn't happen to me, but a friend. She was standing at a pedestrian crossing when a car stopped beside her, and the guys inside started yelling at her. She went up to them, and whispered "Don't you dare insult a lolita armed with a parasol, EVER" and she broke one of their headlights with it.

Alright, I sorta have this problem and I was hoping maybe someone could help me with this...

Whenever someone insults me in cosplay/lolita, I don't ever want to insult back. Like if they're ugly, or they're fat I don't want to say it to them because I don't want their feelings getting hurt. Even if someone just bluntly says something along the lines of "Oh my god, what the hell are you wearing?" etc, etc. I just ignore it, and like I just want to hide and cry a little bit. I can take criticism pretty well and whenever I'm not dressed in lolita/cosplay I'm not that sensitive, but when I'm dressed for a con I just.. Break down. I don't wear my cosplays out of cons, and I rarely wear lolita around, but I remember I was out with my friends a few months back in a pretty nice coord and we went off to a mall and this hambeast just fucking berated me when my friends went into the dressing room to try on a few things. Like the bitch purposely waited until I was alone, and by that time my eyes were all watery but when my friends came back they tore her ass up. After that whole mess I calmly said I had to use the bathroom and I sorta cried a little in the stall for a good 5 minutes. God, I feel like a fucking idiot saying that, but I don't know what else to do without being a sensitive fuck.

The more you get used to speaking up, the more confident you'll be.

Half the time, most people wont expect you to respond at all (I think its a large part of why the do it, oddly enough). They see the clothes and think outsider, which equals weak-willed, or quiet, in their mind.

If you have a hard time summoning up that courage for yourself, imagine a close friend or family member getting the same treatment your getting. Wouldnt you want to protect them? Would make you angry, right?
Harness that anger. Use it and then remove yourself from the situation, if possible.

The shock can be overwhelming, and its ok to feel hurt, but try not to let that sadness overwhelm you completely.

Trust me, you'll overcome them. Ive had to do this many times before.

I have a fatal case of that. I was in a pub with some friends once, a rowdier night than usual because some important sportsball game was on. My friends and I tried to keep to ourselves (not really the sporty types), but I was the only one dressed differently and attracted attention of course. Some drunk girl walked up and poured a beer down my IW dress. I wish I had screamed or slapped her or something, but I was so shocked, nothing like that had ever happened to me before. Her husband just looked at me with this expression of shock and says "I'm so sorry" and then runs out after her. That incident is why no one asks why I refuse to be around her anymore.

ALSO because I'm pissed about some other shit and on a roll, she smacked my sister's hand because she was reading our nephew a picture book. But yes. She refuses to get a job unless it's in a daycare where she can be with my nephew. So my stepmother went through all of her connections to find a daycare in her area that was actually hiring. The daycare needed new staff at that point (amazingly) and all she had to do was call and do an interview over the phone. She refused and told my stepmother to do the interview for her. The daycare wouldn't allow that and hired someone else. She called my stepmother the next day screaming that she had lost her the job and that she needed money to pay for whatever (she calls so often screaming for shit I lose track). That was six months ago and she is currently lying to the government that she is a single mother in her household to get benefits.

FUCK I am so angry right now, /cgl/. I'm harping on the reading thing because I packed up a box of my favorite picture books I owned as a child and took them to her house for my nephew. Her husband was very grateful. Then I find the box UNOPENED in my dad's garage. AND THEN her husband calls me asking if I can send the books back in a more discreet manner that won't piss my stepsister off. WTF?!

Practice with a shitty wig first. For my first cosplay I kinda fumbled around, the bangs were a v-style and kinda weird to figure out. I wore it like that, later decided it looked horrible, and got another wig. That one ended up turning out much better.

I haven't worn lolita out yet but I do dress in a way that might be a little bit out there. At the very least, in a city where half the population wears jeans, yoga pants or trashy tights and bra tops it blows their mind when you walk outside in a nice blouse, skirt and thigh high socks. The worst I've ever gotten was getting honked three times in a two minute span walking to my bus stop (I was wearing himekaji with a fluffy Liz Lisa skirt).

I also have a pair of pretty bright purple OTKs that seem to draw idiots out when I wear them. I got yelled at by like 10 kids from a school bus when I was crossing the street, which was fine because it was mostly "Nice socks!" I also wore them during freshman week because my uni's colours are purple. When waiting for my bus at a stop a gaggle of teenage boys (highschool, maybe gr. 10) walked by calling me Pipi Longstocking. When I didn't respond (Pipi's socks are striped, asshole) one called me a bitch and another called me cunt. I really didn't feel like validating the presence of someone who looks and acts like a little boy though.

I find that usually if I get catcalls and stuff it's teenage guys for some reason? I find that really off putting because I'm 23 now and I have brothers 4-6 years younger than me and even if I was single I wouldn't want to get near someone who reminds me of my little brother. I blame it on the fact that I look a little bit younger than I really am (many people guess highschool, or like 17-20 and I get IDed everywhere).

I had some girls stick up for me in high school (behind my back and all, they didn't know I could hear them).
I wasn't even a Lolita then, just the Weird Quiet Kid in school. I'm mates with them on facebook now, the toughest girl I ever met keeps liking all my Outfit Of The Day posts. Feels weirdly sweet, man.

I really don't get it. They threw a fish bowl, with a live god damn fish in it, water balloons, and beer bottles. I called the cops on them and I'm pretty sure they got one hell of a fine or evicted.
