hi genuinely confused here

so this girl that i know claims to be a professional cosplayer but she doesnt have any pictures. what does it take to be a professional cosplay and does anyone know what one looks like by face?

>> No.6950053

There's no such thing as a professional cosplayer, no matter what someone tells you. They're deluded.

For anything else you can ask Jessica Nigri or Yaya Han. They brown-nosed to the top

The fact that she needs to flaunt it makes it seem like it might not actually be as big of a thing as she pretends it is.

You'd think she'd have some website or blog or even some facebook page she could guide you to. Like, just a, "You can see some of my work at <link>" would be something.

Without any proof, there's a good chance that she's just got a small circle of con-going friends who always tell her that she's SOOOOO PERFECT as whoever she dresses up as, and that she gets a fair amount of pictures at her local con.

Also, you usually don't recognize most cosplayers out of costume because without a wig and excessive makeup and a giant gaudy costume wrapped around them, they just look like a normal person.

No, if you're a cosplayer one of the main points is showcasing your work... you can't be a "pro" and not have a portfolio of some kind.

Being a "professional' in this hobby is well worn trail of discussion around here. But yeah, if she doesn't have some kind of DA, cos.com, Acp, fb fan page, tumblr... whatever website I'd call her on her bluff.

To be honest Yaya was actually a talented cosplayer. She did tread on the "zomg a real master asian race" thing a little. But before she got the ridiculous boob inflation she was actually notable for good cosplay.

Nigiri though, she doesn't deserve a shred of the attention she gets. I haven't seen her make anything impressive yet. She treads on looks and nothing more.

>look like a normal person.
You know, that's honestly part of the appeal for me.
I can go on with my daily life without people knowing I like to make elaborate and showy costumes to wear with other weirdos.

>> No.6950215

Maybe she means "booth babe"?

>> No.6950239

I'm curious on this topic as well.
There's a girl in the next anime/cosplay community over (where I live, there's only really two between the two main-ish cities) and she claims to be/trying to be a professional cosplayer, but she only has one costume really going for her - and it honestly looks ebay-bought, but she boasts that she gets her 'hair and make up professionally done, and has professional photo shoots'
But I feel that means nothing really?
Like I guess I would assume if a professional cosplayer exists it would be like Yaya, Nigri, or Pikman, where they've atleast been noted some-what internationally and have been picked up by a company to promote their product. Like you need to be paid to be a professional?

>> No.6950240

Can you give us her reaction to telling her she's not a pro cosplayer? I'm sure it'll be pretty hilarious.

>> No.6950250

>>6950039
professional implies that they get paid for it, and I don't think anyone gets paid to cosplay outside of pornography.

>> No.6950270

Once knew a scary, delusional bitch that claimed she was now a "professional crossplayer" because some guy in artist alley took her picture and said he would be putting it in a cosplay book.

Yaya is talented but she climbed up in popularity by brown-nosing other well known cosplayers. She ditched them after she was done with them.

There is only a couple of cosplayers I know who have been paid to appear at birthday parties. They aren't well known but have been paid to appear and for their work. Does that count as professional? To me it does.

yes, all you really need to do to be a professional is get paid.

I never knew she drew outside of her lip line. Huh. Had me fooled for years her lips were naturally that big.

I dunno, this makes me wonder since I almost got paid $250 to dress up as Deadpool for a birthday party once. Would that have made me a professional cosplayer, or just a birthday clown?
