As for the Jsk tutorial, it's pretty basic/could use a few modifications but for the most part it's a pretty good guideline (same tut, I just stuck it together into one pic rather than the original 5 seperate ones)

I'll tell you: Prepare small vats of dye for each color you want to use. About bucket sized. Take your garment, and twist the fabric into points where you want the colors to center. Wrap rubbed bands about the twisted fabric VERY TIGHTLY. Use thick bands and a few of them on each tie. Dip points into desired color vat. When your finished, rinse it off with a hose or faucet. DON'T DIP IT into clear water (use cold). That worked pretty well for me in girl scouts, anyway.

Anybody have a tutorial for making chestpieces? I saw the 1st post and it doesn't quite help me, I basically need a chest base made out of foam/something cheap so I can expanding foam over.

I've seen one DA tutorial that's very vague but involves using a shirt, paper, and craft foam. Anybody have anything similar?

Not only would this not work well on anyone over a b-cup but it's incredibly dangerous. There's a reason FtMs are constantly told to get proper binders, and that's because if you compress your chest with something that doesn't stretch, you will not be able to breathe, and a lot of the time, extended use leads to bruised and cracked ribs, expecially with compression bandages.

Binders may seem pricy, but considering that I use mine (an underworks 997 which also compresses the hips) most days and they last a good year before they start to tear significantly, I'm sure that only using it once or twice a year at a con means it'll last for fucking decades.

If you're going to do this, make the binder out of elastic. There's a tutorial somewhere about making a binder where you sew strips of elastic together, put it inside a sleeve of fabric, and I think there's a zipper on the side?
Non-stretch compression is really bad though.
