I was at the theatre seeing the new Thor movie yesterday (it was mediocre) and four girls sat behind my boyfriend and I. Because boiled down their actions are theoretically well intentioned, but their self righteous attitudes and shitty senses of logic and general hateful counteract all of that. Some of you guys talk about taking Tumblr down like it would do any good. Tumblr is gonna be Tumblr. The ones making a big fuss there are too stupid to even realize it, which is why no amount of telling them they're wrong is ever going to help.
It's best to just make threads like these and make fun of them on the sidelines. And then laugh when they find it and get butt hurt. I dunno about you but that's my favorite part. If we "took them down" what good would that do. No one to laugh at.

It's from a while ago, from when I used to frequent Homestuck general, so maybe I'm mixing it up. But from what I remember, there was this cosplayer who had a 'canon' url and cosplayed Aradiabot, uh, Aradia's dancestor, and Flame Princess.

I had a friend once who went full tumblr mode.

She was relatively normal when I first began to talk to her (she had a tumblr but it was one of those run-of-the-mill fandom blogs) but was, like a lot of people on there, one of those 'woe is me, my life sucks, no-one wants to date me, so ronery, so depressed' types.

Then she started hanging out with some of the ~pan a-sexual genderqueer panromantic~~~ types mentioned in the last thread and went full retard. Started saying she was bigender (had no issue with any gender related shit before), threw total fits when people mentioned their boobs or periods because MUH CISSEXISM, was a huge fetishist and always talked about how horny she was but also claimed to be asexual and talked about her asexuality nonstop. Ended up unfollowing me because I complained about period cramps and that was cissexist or something, got mad at me when I reblogged a post about cervical cancer too. Also due to cissexism.

I'm sure there's real asexuals, but i'm also sure 90% of tumblr asexuals are just too fucked up/mentally unstable to get a date and try to act like it's due to their ~asexuality~. Also 90% sure tumblr genderqueerism is a cult that just kind of sucks people in and spits them out wearing denim vests and glitter eyeshadow with half-shaven heads, considering the last thread.

Like with Night Vale. I saw a post where someone mentioned how someone cosplayed as a character and ships Cecil and Carlos and claimed to be in the fandom but doesn't even listen to the radio show... Which is a shame, the actual show itself is pretty cool and weird with the strange things that happen around town. And I even like a few of the songs they play.

Instead, people just focus on some romance because "hurr muh queer poc representation", cosplays of characters who have no canon appearance, or take one joke and run with it for fucking ever. "HURR AND NOW THE WEATHER" just stop. It's gotten so egregious that even anything remotely surreal is somehow Night Vale. It's like they try and pigeonhole the characters into as many of their buzzword labels as possible. Yeah, it's possible that Armin or Hanji or someone might ponder the finer points of their gender identity from time to time, but I feel like all that might take a back seat to the fact that EVERYONE THEY KNOW AND LOVE IS DYING ALL AREAND THEM AND THEY LIVE IN CONSTANT FEAR OF BEING FUCKING EATEN.

What's more is they seem to believe that their headcanons are actually canon and get absolutely FURIOUS if what you believe doesn't agree with them. I saw two people get in a long-assed fight that was just as ridiculous as any other SJ argument on that site because someone dared to draw a cis male character as a cis male.

If some of these issues were handled intelligently? Fine. It would actually be interesting. But they don't. They don't write/draw this kind of shit in the context of the show. 'But what about AUs, Anon?' you ask.

Exactly. One of the things that I appreciate about SnK is that for the most part, the gender of a character is really incidental. Women and men are pretty much equals. Like I said, there's an intelligent way to do all this, but that's been ignored in favor of shitty, nonsensical headcanons and vitriol.

Also, what I think angry Anon was trying to say was that despite the fact that Reiner saw a slight boost in popularity after he made that comment about his sexuality--and it was learned that his birthday apparently falls on Yaoi day or something--he still was never really paired with anyone often. That is, until certain events came to life. Then suddenly he and his sweaty co-sonspiritor was everywhere. My dash started to look very different after certain chapters. Tumblr, I've noticed, likes to take characters who are antagonists that may or may not have committed atrocities and paint them as sympathetic and misunderstood. Loki is a prime example. I see the other titan shifters as fairly sympathetic, but these guys are taking the moral grey areas and the ambiguity that I like in the manga and handling them with a sledgehammer.

My hugest problem with tumblr is its "every country is USA".

Part of being triggered is the negative reaction afterwards, but everybody reacts differently. That's the difference between being triggered and being reminded of something negative. I've been dealing with a lot of triggers lately because the one year anniversary of my house is coming up, and something as simple as a friend of mine mentioning Dark Souls on Facebook made a twinge go through me as I remember the Dark Souls game sitting charred and sorta melty in a pile with my other DVDs/games. Firefighters knocked shit down all over the place. Now I feel sick, but I only ever show a reaction outwardly when it's really bad and I start unconsciously crying or hyperventilating because I get sorta stuck in my head.

And before I get people saying the usual stuff when triggers are bought up, I don't ask people to do trigger warnings. I don't tell people when they say something that triggers me. I was right in the middle of my house going up trying to get my family out because everybody was sleeping. As I was ushering them out the heat was causing things like lightbulbs to explode around us. I lost everything, including my cats that the firefighters said they couldn't find and then I ended up stumbling upon the bodies just tossed on my lawn when I went to talk to the fire marshal. Holy fuck I used to be two friends almost as similar to this. Both of them were close to me. We were all friends and met around middle school, progressing into high school. My guy friend came out as guy freshman year. Okay, not a problem, I will always accept my friends who they are. I thankfully got myself out of being friends with them as soon as I could. Both fucked themselves over though. Gay friend is apparently genderfliud and still throws the insult breeders like he did fucking four years ago. Girl friend always thought she was fat, even though she was 5'7 and average weight for her size, and got herself into an eating disorder. She comes back from rehab a month later, nothing has changed.

When I first got into tumblr, I sort of haphazardly followed people who posted funny things, fandom stuff, and then maybe some social commentary I could get behind without really checking out the other posts on their blogs. I'll tell you about my friend and the people involved first to set the scene.

So like I said, a good friend of mine was diagnosed with pretty bad case of GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Best described as when a when a person worries excessively about a variety of everyday problems, stimuli and situations). His is bad enough to be accompanied by noticeable physical symptoms. He often trembles and twitches and is visibly tightly wound. He fidgets, pulls at his hair and picks his cuticles. He also stutters from time to time. He's pretty cute in an odd way--he kind of has a face like a barn owl if that makes sense. So for the purposes of this story, I'm going to call him Owl.

We've known each other since 7th grade and we're in our 20's now. Owl only recently started receiving treatment because his dad is a batshit insane Catholic extremist who doesn't believe stuff like that exists and his mother just kind of goes along with whatever he does and says.He's gotten a bit better, but has a long way to go. He's quiet, shy, awesome and chess, likes to read, is the most eloquent person on paper and has cripplingly low self-esteem. He wears sweaters almost year round. Owl is also gay, a fact which he had a really hard time coming to terms with and accepting due to his aforementioned family situation. So naturally, all these factors combined make him the perfect target for tumblrtards.

Next, the tumblrtards. There's two of them and they're your pretty standard SJW and fandom trash as well as equally obnoxious. I shall call them Bulk and Skull. Bulk, as you might expect is a hamplanet. Skull is only mildly chubby and won't shut up about her boobs. They are both essentially two white women who have given themselves super special identities. They're both 'demi-sexuals and heteroromantic' which, to the best of my knowledge is just a fancy way of saying they're straight. (cont)

They've tried to force Owl into relationships even when he clearly wasn't ready for one (at the time) and have bombarded him with porn. They him on the spot and put all this pressure on him, and thus wind up doing everything that stirs up/stresses out super anxious people. To make matters worse Bulk and Skull seem to think that Owl doesn't need therapy and have tried to convince him to stop going.

Weirder still, they seem to almost kind of fetishize his illness. Bulk made a joke about how some of Owl's physical symptoms are cute. She and I got in a fight about it. Because no, it's not 'cute' when he's twitching or shaking or fumbling all over himself. He's not one of her shitty ass fandom characters she can fawn over. He's a real person with a real condition and he doesn't enjoy getting upset like that in front of people. (c)

I guess this is where my experience on tumblr vs actually having met racists in real life in my backwoodsy hick hometown differs. It seems like on tumblr they will make as many excuses as possible to show that they are right, that whites deserve it because of x y z justification, and they are in no way perpetuating hate. The racists I've actually had in person conversations with (a truly mortifying experience itself) will leave it at "I don't like 'em". I have gotten into it with both of them multiple times over their pants-on-the-head-retardedness. Owl has weakly asserted himself once or twice. Geodude tried to say something once or twice but they guilted him into silence for having an opinion contradictory to theirs.

I've kind of accepted that they're here to stay--at least temporarily--because while I think they terrify him somewhat and they really bother him, Owl can't bring himself to hate Bulk and Skull. I think Geodude's patience with them is wearing thin even though he's usually really nice and laid back. They've clearly gotten under his skin once or twice, though.

I was literally trying to shut my ears midway through because those are Just Not Things I Want To Know. How does anyone think it's okay to sit next to a complete stranger and pour out all this (personal!) information? How the hell can you just talk at someone for forty-five minutes straight and not see anything wrong with doing that? I feel like I'm talking like I've never met this kind of person before, but it's so fucking jarring in real life. Even for people I'm close to, I couldn't imagine telling them information that would amount to all of that - god, I felt physically and mentally queasy by the time we got there.

They base the entire thing on Grell's statement in one of the guidebooks but I don't think it was ever author's intent to portray him as mtf because there is so much evidence against it. He is literally a walking okama stereotype, even speaks a slang/language associated with gays/drag queens (which is not typical "feminine" language) and his character is way too minor to analyze him in such depth.
If he did turn out to be mtf in canon this portrayal would be probably considered... insensitive to say at least.
