Hi, /cgl/ I didn't see a thread (that or I'm blind as absolute shit) but hair thread/general? I plan to make my hair a pastel pink but I'm not 100% sure if it's what I want to do, or how to go about it. Anyone got pics to dump of pastel hair (non wigs)? I'm just afraid of it looking like absolute after a week. I have really long hair, on top of that it was dyed black but has faded to a mostly dark brown. It will have to be stripped regardless, of course, but I'd like to see some examples from fellow seagulls before I go through with it.

Going from dyed black to light enough for pastels is not going to be easy nor is it something that can be done over a short amount of time. This might cost a couple hundred considering you have long hair and if youre really uncertain, it might not be worth the money.

Itll also require quite a bit of upkeep.

hey OP, so here's what you need for pastel hair.

Bleach the fuck out of it, it needs to be platinum blonde. Use a color stripper and bleach 3 - 4 times (depending on your hair type) over a month until you are golden blonde. Then use a toner (manic panic ultra violet mixed 1/16 with cheap conditioner is super cheap way to do it) to cancel out your brassy tones. You'll be left with either white or silvery hair, then you can dye it with 1/3 regular dye mixed with conditioner to get pastel color. However pastel requires lots of upkeep, as it fades really quickly. So either go for a more prominent color to begin with and let it fade (recolor once a month or two) or pastel straight away and touch up with deep conditioning + touch of color every week.

Also pink will never fade completely, I did my hair as pic related in about May and it's still clearly peachy in the ends. Going to try a color stripper but it's really stubborn. Pardon the neon lighting.

Also, it won't cost you hundreds of dollars if you do at home but proceed with caution. I do everything at home, including my roots which I take from black to platinum in 1 bleaching. I have gone to salons before and they're usually terrible and don't know what they're doing. My last root touchup was terrible and I have a bronze halo, which I have to go back to get fixed. They refused to apply heat when I asked them to because it wasn't bleaching evenly, and instead made me wait 4 hours for nothing.

Buy bleach powder and developer from beauty supply shops or on ebay (I got from taobao), mix 1:1 and brush on. Have a friend help you with the back and leave 1/2 inch at the roots as the heat makes it bleach faster. Go back and touch up the roots after you've applied everything as they'll bleach up faster. Leaving the mixture on for extended periods of time doesn't do more, it only works for about 1 - 2 hours before it stops. Applying heat will speed up the process but increase the damage of your hair, so use a gentle blowdryer if your hair is bleaching unevenly to speed it up.

If you have crazy thick hair like me (I have to use double to triple the amounts for hair treatments, which I guess means I get my money's worth at salons) then get 2 friends and yourself to each do a section, working together. Don't wash your hair for as long as you can stand before the bleaching, about a week and a half for me. The greasiness protects your scalp from burning up.

I bought 1 liter of vol 30 developer and 1 kg of bleach powder from taobao for under 100 rmb including shipping, which is good for 2 full heads and 4 root touchups even for me. I recommend using a vegetable hair dye for the color or a colored hair manicure, both of which can be diluted with conditioner, as to not further damage your hair. Good luck.

>pastel pink
can we just agree to call it baby pink?
OP,if you're going from black you have to bleach it which can be REALLY damaging to your hair, which was already mentioned here.
Just a few things to keep in mind when you do this :
Prepare to dish out bucks for new pink dye every week
Prepare to dish out bucks for good conditioner and shampoo
Prepare to take lukewarm and cold showers
Prepare to app bleach to roots before you even have a chance to enjoy your hair.

In my experience?
Dying the hair hot pink gives your some more leeway to avoid dishing out more money for new dye every few weeks from the baby pink you will get as it takes hot pink longer to fade. But if you want to go straight to baby pink, prepare for it to fade to orange.

Other things to remember? The bleach in your hair will retain that red pigment for a LONG time.

I used to dye my hair pink a LOT in high school.
The trouble I had to go through, as someone who has really dark natural hair, was just ugh.
3-4hours in a chair every few weeks was not my idea of fun, especially with that bleach.
Pic related, high school pic. That is what it will look like after about two weeks

I think pastel pink is a very tricky colour to maintain, especially if your hair isn't naturally blonde.
You'll need to bleach and then dye your hair at least every two months and even then your hair will look funny for one these months.

Use a colour remover to get rid of the remnants of the black dye. NOT a stripper or a bleach. ColourB4 or Scott Cornwall's decolour remover are the two most available brands. You can't bleach straight after using them because permanent dye reacts with it and it will turn your hair black again. But this is by far the best way to keep your hair in nice condition, otherwise you're going to have to bleach your hair a fuckton of times and it's not going to be pleasant. Be sure to Read.The.Instructions. Several times.

COCONUT OIL. For weeks before you bleach, and whilst you bleach. My hair is 27" long and purple/blue/turquoise, and the only reason I managed to get it so long whilst bleaching it all the time is because of using coconut oil whilst bleaching.

Use vegetable dye for the unnatural colour. Cupcake pink by special effects is really widely recommended, but you will never be able to get rid of it. People have dyed over it with black dye only to have the black wash out before the pink.

I dyed my hair purple with Splat's lusty lavender a while ago, and in 3 weeks or so it faded to this really nice pink, and stayed about this colour until I dyed it again.

I have asian hair and dye my hair black, so I wasn't really able to get my hair too light with the bleach. Something you'll have to remember though if you're going for a soft pink that's light is that if you want to keep up the hair colour constantly, you'll probably have to dye it every two or three weeks, because the dye will fade extremely quickly.

I really liked how the purple looked, but it really only lasted like three washes before it became pink, which I guess is okay too.

Anyone have experience with removing black hair dye?
I've been dying my hair black for years, but now I wanna go back to brown. What's the best route to take- bleach or those Color-oops removers?

>> No.7231164

>>7230982
What are you talking about? She's talking about the fact that a lot of black dyes have metallics in them that cause your hair to bleach coppery rather than blonde after you've used them. A color removal won't fix that, and will probably make the problem worse.

Color remover, then bleach. As a warning, black dye is very very hard to get out of hair, so it may not work. But you should hopefully get enough out to get it to a dark brown. Make sure to use a protein filler after you bleach so your hair takes up the brown dye evenly.

Yes, I stopped using shampoo years ago and I've had nothing but good results since. I used to get dandruff all the time before I stopped. I still use conditioner once in awhile if I feel my hair getting too dry (usually due too the weather). I use shampoo after swimming though cause yeah.

Basically it involves rubbing your scalp vigorously for a few minutes at a time and alternating between hot and cold water. You have to visualize yourself drawing the old, dirty sebum out and replacing it with new sebum. I also combine it with using a boar bristle brush to do a similar thing.

To me that looks like lavender on not-quite-white-enough hair? Don't get me wrong, your hair still has to be really light, like really pale peachy/sandy color. Dark hair tends to be like that at one point of bleaching/toning towards platinum. I think going on top of that with lavender and then - if needed - toning with Crazy Color Platinum (or similar) should get you the desired result.

Then again I haven't had lavender in over 10 years so I'm not sure about this.

Even if your hair is not that long, being heavy and thick probably calls for something more substantial than bobby pins - which they will definitely be able to help with. I've had the same problem and it's only progressed over the years to the point where I need really thick bangs and if the wind blows, I look really awkward.

Avoid headbands or pulling your hair back too tightly, try not to use too much heat styling, especially if you have bangs, eat healthy,

I've tried Rogaine but it was giving me weird heart palpitations (It's either high or low blood pressure medicine in a dropper that you put on your hair) so I had to stop taking it even though my blood pressure is normal.

>> No.7239699

>>7239579
Depends why. If you've been doing things to damage your hair over time (e.g. tight ponytails, lots of heat/bleach/chemicals, then you'll have to stop doing that and wait for it to (hopefully) grow back over time. If it's genetic there's not a hell of a lot that can be done, although if you really want to go to a hair loss clinic they often have some treatments that can slow loss. I know people recommend miconazole cream and biotin supplements to encourage hair growth, so you could try that.

>>7239618
Maybe braiding it would be an option for you? Even fairly short hair can be braided into nice updos. How do you "curl it properly"? Some hair that does not respond well to heated curlers is okay with being pincurled or rag curled and left overnight.

I have thick Asian hair, and I find that although heat curling it doesn't work very well, if I curl it while it's damp and leave it overnight then it gives my hair a nicer wave. I use these silly sponge rollers, but you can do pincurls, use rags etc. if you prefer. Just wrap a scarf or something around your hair so it doesn't all get knocked out while you sleep.

Another way you can curl your hair with heat is you curl it using whatever tool it is you use, then slide it off very gently, while still in the curl shape, and then pin it into a pincurl while it's still warm to help it to set. You'll obviously need to use some product to keep it set in place better. This video helped me:

How well do the strawberries work? I've seen them pop up on my ebay a few times and I've been curious.

Different anon, but I've used them. They work as long as you tie a hairband around each one, otherwise they tend to curl the hair near the roots way too loosely for my taste.

Indian, yeah
No-heat curls don't work for me and heat just frizzes it up

You may want to invest in heat protection serums and keratin stuff. I have frizz issues too, but you can't accomplish much without some kind of heat from a flat iron or curling iron.

Ladies, I'm trying to get my hair close to pic related and I'm having trouble determining what colors I should use. I've already had a few stylists try, and fail spectacularly at it, so I'm ready to give it a whirl on my own. I HAVE done my hair at home before, so I'm not going in blind or anything!

I removed all the fucked up dye jobs the salon did and toned out all the left over brass about 3 weeks ago, so right now my hair is a pretty light blonde color. It's in good condition, and the porosity seems fine again but I do have a filler just in case so I'm thinking I'm in the clear to finally recolor.

I know I'll need a few shades since her hair looks lowlighted. I'm not sure on the darker colors, but I was thinking her base color looks kind of like a medium blonde with the lowlights being a mix of dark blonde and light brown... Does that seem right?

I'm not sure what dye I should use either though. I get my stuff at Sally's but I've mostly only used darker dyes so I'm not versed in what brands have the most true to swatch blondes.

Does this color suit me? I had it lifted and toned at the salon, but my scalp was already burning at that point. Is it okay, or should I try getting it to platinum before the holidays?
