NY's "Lolita Fashion Week" starts tomorrow at the Japan Society lecture. Who's excited? All talk surrounding the upcoming NY events can go here.

Ridiculously excited, but scared the snow will make the trip in miserable. Can't wait to getting dressed up and meet a bunch of other lolitas though!

>> No.7353172

How was the lecture? Any seagulls on right now who attended?

>> No.7353242

Yeah, I attended. I'm glad that i got to go but I feel like it was more of a Lolita Fashion 101 panel like you'd see at an anime convention - and it didn't actually answer the question about whether lolita is a costume or a lifestyle. Misako was cute as fuq, Miss Caro-chan and the other girl were OK, but the moderator was someone who had never been a lolita and she was asking stuff like "does lolita have to do with music, like punk subculture?" and "is there a place for men in lolita?"

I'd say that the audience was maybe 60% girls in lolita and 40% boyfriends/friends/moms of lolitas, random old people, weird hipster photographers, and random Asians. It would have been nice if it was a panel for people who already knew what lolita was. The most cringe-worthy moment was during the Q&A section when some old guy asked "what do your boyfriends and parents think about you wearing lolita?"

Also cgl got a shout-out.

As someone who is a complete lurker and a lone lolita, I was really surprised at how well spoken the other two were (not the moderator - she was a train wreck). After reading comments on here I was expecting a lot worse, but it really wasn't that bad (and they were dressed fine too? IDK maybe I'm missing something, but they were not, like, disgracing the community with their outfits).

Misako was super sweet, but gave really flat answers (not much depth).

Afterwards I got my picture with Misako! She was really cute and complimented my outfit, but I'm pretty sure she was doing that to everyone.

I thought it was a good time. Worth going to :)

>> No.7353920

The lecture was alright at times, honestly awkward at others - it was just a dressed-up version of a Lolita 101 panel, like another anon said. I felt bad for Misako and the other two girls, they were incredibly well spoken and seemed knowledgeable but really weren't given a chance to display that since the questions were pretty much 'durr durr i know nothing about lolita'.
There were some really obnoxious people there as well, especially this old hag that kept filming everyone 'for vine' and screaming "HARAJUKU HARAJUKU" when she jammed her fucking phone in your face.
I did meet a lot of girls I wouldn't have had the chance to otherwise, and most people were really gorgeous and sweet, so brava to all the lovely lolitas who were there!
Also, Amber showed up late. In bodyline. And uggs, as well as with a shitty knit beret and nonmatching tights, bitch looked a mess (if the rest of us sloshed there in TPs and RHS, you can put some effort too).
Let me know if you guys have any other questions.

So /cgl/ I just got back from hanging out with Misako on the ride and then at a thai restaurant. Here's a rundown of what happened.

>The ride was an energetic and extremely tacky tourist attraction that I would never pay full price for and I'm glad I didn't
> Misako didn't enjoy it as much as she would have liked too since everything was in English
> The restaurant luckily had a lunch special so it wasn't expensive.
>Thai iced coffee is a bit too sweet for Misako
> I asked her a few questions but her answers were pretty... I'm not sure what the right word would be, short, bland?
>Like I asked what she thinks of the rarity of certain colors like orange and green in lolita
>Her answer was they are cute but I like pink
>Lots of photos were taken everyone was looking fabulous (except me probably)
>She called my personality soft, which couldn't be further from the truth but it warmed my heart anyway.
>She was impressed I could eat the extra spicy curry

Sorry most of that must have been boring.
I'm going to be at the tea party tomorrow so if anyone has an interesting question they wanna ask her I'll write it down and hopefully I can talk to her again.

the only reason Japan society contacted amber to run the tea party is becouse seeing as how amber has no job, no education and no life she, like a true weeaboo regularly volunteers for js.

I am going to call her out on the face. Especially since I'm on anon and won't have to deal with her being a psycho to my face. (She's the reason I left the NYC community. She is especially mean to white members unless they have an intense case of white guilt and suck her ass at every opportunity ( like Victoria & co ) so please save your feeble attempts at defending quite possibly the meanest member of the NYC Lolita community and expel that energy on perhaps understanding that we in new york are all victims of her ratchet reign instead.

This. I've been commenting a bit in this thread, and the amount of times Amber has given me these... Looks... Like I mentioned how it's impossible for me to tan, but I don't really mind since I have weird undertones... (we were talking about tanning) She just looked at me like I'm scum of the earth, how dare I prefer my skin to be pale because it looks better on me. I didn't say it looks good on everyone, I said it looks good on ME because of my undertones.
Not to mention the time she messaged me for nearly a week straight, grilling me with questions, asking if I was afraid of her (yeah I am, but I didn't say that to her face), asking what other girls thought of her... I was terrified! I lied to her about everything, saying I thought she was "awesome!" and "no one hates you! You're so nice!" Because I watched her send a girl into full on tears and banning her from the community because of a meet. Just for organizing a meet and then seeking shelter from the rain because we were, you know, wearing brand that runs when wet. I was terrified she'd do the same to me, and possibly worse.

Anyone who defends her needs to kindly fuck off. I've detached myself from the comm, so I don't feel as scared writing this... But believe me it's taking a lot of courage to even hit submit right now.

Your courage is appriciated anon ! Seriously imagine how that girl feels. Knowing her irl she's since partially quit Lolita and stopped going to meetups in NYC, completely quit Facebook, cut off ties with all the Lolita's that shit talked her publically on FB after reading ambers post on basically saying everyone should hate her and last time she was at a con (otakon) Victoria made a loud remark along the lines of "how dare she show up!"
I feel really really bad for her but thanks to that amber really showed her true colors to the Lolita community.
Of course most girls that weren't in attendance took ambers side in this but also remember a majority of the NYC Lolita comm is pocs who look up to amber so really it's not much of a suprise.

>> No.7359257

I should also mention that amber likes to cry racist at every opportunity so she's probably said a few things about you just for that remark.

Wow, you ungrateful bitches are distasteful. Simultaneously whining that the host wasn't being friendly with you when there was a hoard of other people to talk to and then coming to 4chan to bitch about her. I didn't end up attending (with all the shit that went on I pulled out) but I mean, come on! She could at least smile! Putting a smile on your face, even when you're asking someone/a group to quiet down makes it seem much more well-intentioned and less "Shut up you brats", which is the general feel when someone's frowning like that and telling you to do something. I work at a "family setting" kind of place, and I have to keep a smile on my face for 8 hours a day. If you're smiling, things just generally go over better. For instance, one day I was having a REALLY bad day and I was frowning and told a kid, "Hun don't touch that." They immediately burst into tears and the parents were like "How DARE YOU." Meanwhile, all the other days that I smiled, I'd never gotten a reaction like that. Coincidence? I think not. Which is why learning to keep a genuine smile was part of our training.
Not only that but who wants to be frowning like an ape when they're being filmed...? Ew.

I don't know what everyone is complaining so much about.
It was cramped, yes. but I am shy as shit and there is nothing like being forced in the same space as someone to force the two of you into conversation. So I kind of like that?
We were shushed a bunch, yes, but there was a TV crew there? What were you girls expecting? Also, amber was always nice to me...That lady with the camera crew however was not so nice. Did she not openly tell the crowd to shut up a bunch of times? Oh well, not really under Amber's control.
No one was crazy or too loud, just 100+ people at a party wanting to talk to one another.
Drinks were had, yes, and everyone was notably more talkative after open bar, but I only saw two openly drunk people.
I did not see anyone who was dressed like a hot mess and that was a nice surprise, and most people were nice and friendly.
Only person I had problems with was the girl who was there with the dude in white jacket? I tried to start up conversation with her a few times, complimented her shoes, ect, and she just ignored my existence? not sure what the hell her problem was.

So ya, tldr: if you did not have fun it is your own damn fault there was plenty of fun to be had. Don't go to something looking to be unhappy you will not find something to change your mind.
All and all a nice meet. Had a blast. Next time more space, and I would do that shit again in a heartbeat.

There are so many people that she hangs out with that are NOT CHINESE, if you even attempted to get to know her, you'd realize she's a very nice girl. She studied in Spain before coming to the US and is most certainly not racist or "above you" like you like to imply. If you talk to her, you'll realize that she wears lolita because she likes feminine clothes. She's a very normal person, with normal interests. Try to approach her, she would happily be friends with any of you.

>>7362845
As her friend (of the Chinese girl), I would say she does not care about how kawaii you are, and does not think about lolita in tiers. She chooses to be friends with people if they NICE and want to hang out with her. They don't even have to be lolita.
