How old were you when you got into lolita? I'm 21 and have got into the fashion ~2 years ago, but I'm really jealous of girls who started buying pieces when they were younger.

>> No.7643116

Purchased my first lolita dress on my 25th birthday. I am glad I waited till that age, because I was mature enough to learn about the fashion before jumping feet first into it. Although there are people a decade younger than me who don't have this problem at all, I was just stupid as a teenager. I also have more income for it. I don't know how colleges students, unless they come from wealthy families, can buy brand.

It's mostly physical labour to be completely honest but it really depends who you work for as different stores separate the merchandising load differently. And as for how you get into it/what degree to have, fashion merchandising, fashion design and illustration are all the kinds of things they look for. Some of my older coworkers were graphic design or painting majors even, back in the day it was more of that. It's better if you work for a department store than one of the high street chains as with most retail, since then you tend to get better hours and pay. Might just be where I am though.

seagulls, I have a confusing situation.

When I arrived home this evening, there was a Meta dress in my mail box that I did not order. My post man and I had made an agreement that instead of him walking up the stairs to my third floor apartment he would place EMS packages in the package lockers, so therefore I did not sign for it.

The dress does not appear in my order history (as I did not order it). I did have a confusing situation with Meta a while back where USPS returned a package to them without delivering and then I had to pay double shipping to have it shipped back. Could this have resulted in confusion for the company? What do I do with this brand dress that I did not order or pay for? Am I going to be charged for this?

>> No.7643802

Check the shipping label, is it yours or did the mailman make a mistake?

If the name written there is yours, contact Meta and ask if they sent it by mistake. If you don't want to keep the dress, ask them for shipping money to ship it back since it isn't yours.

(if the name on the shipping label is indeed yours, whoever ordered the dress will eventually harass Meta about it, and then they will start checking shipping labels, and come up with your name eventually, might as well come clean tell Meta you have the dress )

If an inquiry was started and the post office started looking for the parcel, it may or may not come back to the postman who delivered the parcel. Even if he doesn't get pinpointed as the one who delivered the parcel to the wrong person, he may now tell her everyone needs to sign for their parcels, and now if she's not home, she'll have to go to the post office to pick up her parcels instead of relying on her postman.

You can bet Meta didn't throw away the shipping label, so they can definitely track it down to her address. They may or may not believe her if she says she doesn't have the dress, since even EMS packages can get lost, or they may just blacklist her entirely.

I'm not an ethical person, anon, I'm one of those that plays nice to everyone so that the system keep working smoothly. So far I've been trying to find loopholes so that anon can keep the dress, but since her correct address is on the shipping label, and her postman actually knows her well enough to have that understanding with her, that's two too many people who suspect she has the dress.

Posting here because there's no coord general:
Could I get some advice for my HC coord? I'm hoping to wear it to a meet up relatively soon but have no idea how to accessorize this, and I'm stuck on legwear as well. Pieces on the left are what I'm currently planning on wearing (except I'll probably go with the brown hair combs), and pieces on the right are other items I own that work well. The guys that write these have been doxxed, actually I think the head of RoK has been open from the beginning but I could be wrong. He doesn't care because he takes advantage of foreign women who don't know his notoriety and also because he gets a shit ton of ad revenue from idiots linking to his website in "outrage".
But yeah, I agree that it should count as hate speech. Some hate group monitors have already started adding MRA sites to their lists and they have the history and the reasons to back it up, not just being part of the feminist agenda or whatever. Google filters or bumps down hate speech sites, I really think they should do that in these cases. Maybe not RoK but some of the literally hundreds of others. Because really, how is it not? Imagine copy pasting the n-word for every time they say "cunt" or "whore", definitely hate speech.

For return shipping? It depended on the situation, if I thought they were kind of shady I would ask them to send it and tell me the price and then refund them.
If I realized it was an honest mixup or they were in distress, I gave them money for shipping or provided a shipping label first. Also I usually offered them a discount on any item in my store (no one ever took me up on it but it's a show of good faith) or would refund them a little extra money.
>why are you asking/expecting the customer to clean up your mess?
What else are they supposed to do? They can't call USPS and ask them to come to your house, package it up for you and take it. Mistakes happen once in awhile. If you wanted to keep the dress, you probably could have and they wouldn't have noticed but you contacted them about it right?

How do you deal with chiffon? I'm so nervous about damages, I feel like I shouldn't even sit down. I was going over a brand new dress I only tried on once and found there were already damages, and I wasn't rough with it at all. In some areas, really tiny little threads seemed to be popping out of the woven fabric. They're not that noticeable, but if I brushed up against anything at all, with my luck the little loops of thread would get caught and cause a run in the fabric or something. I went back and pushed each individual little thread back into the fabric, but I don't know if they can pop back up or if just staring at the dress will cause more little loops to become unwoven.
Is there an easy way to prevent damages to chiffon other than securing a perimeter around myself at all times?

No, get or draft a blouse pattern that already has the right neckline and sleeves. Different collars stop at different places around your neck, and if you're making something with a stand collar you will need to add a collar stand as well. Same applies for sleeves, it has to fit the armhole it was designed for, sleeveless blouse patterns typically draft the armhole larger, and some designs of sleeves need to be gathered only on top.

The most you can do is change little details like adding lace and pintucks, lengthening/shortening things or curving a pointy collar, especially if you're just beginning. (If you were really experienced you wouldn't be asking such a basic question though).

I didn't see a coord thread, so I'm posting here if thats okay? I'm trying to figure out a first coord (just to see if I'm absolutely terrible at this).

I just threw in a random blouse from bodyline. I want short sleeve and white, but not sure what kind of collar I should go for. I'm also having difficulties finding blue shoes that look like they'll match color. I also am getting stumped in the accessory department. I'm having troubles finding underwater type cute things. I'd love to stay with shells, seahorses, iridescent things, and pearls. Eventually I'd like to lean this outfit towards ott.

Skip the blue shoes since you've already got a blue dress and blue stockings and go with pink ones instead. I would also draw out the pink of the print with a pink bag.
What do you have to work with? As in, what else is in your closet?
I would ditch that wig, too. I can't reply with an image yet, but if you give me more info, I can do so when I get to my computer.

I literally have nothing. But I've been interested in alternative fashion for so long and have been lurking around lolita for quite some time. I'll either do two things with this coord (because I know this is a pricey dress)
-This wont be the first coord I buy for
-Save up for a long time and slowly buy the pieces

I was questioning the wig right after I posted haha. And thank you for the suggestion on pink! I wasn't sure when I first started if I wanted to incooperate pink, I was thinking more mono colored in the blue. But if it was subtle accents I think I might enjoy it. It would also open up the available items I could use.

For me everything looks off. The wig is horrid and the stupid star pin doesn't match at all. The dress looks best with silver too. The socks look really costumey. I personally like striped socks in more traditional, old school coordinates (which this is not so it doesn't match the rest of the accessories), but these look costume shop-esque. It also looks as though you're trying to coordinate in a way that is too modern for that dress.

Thanks. I was wondering about the metal myself. I only was choosing gold because I find some jewelry I liked in it. So if silver is better I will definitely look into it.

Rosaire is selling some stuff on facebook, and I'm interested in a bracelet + wristcuffs.
Should I risk buying from her? I'm aware that she has a shit reputation...
I don't even know if filing a paypal claim would work. One of her terms of sales is:

> ⑦ Once I ship, I am no longer responsible for your items. If your post office decides to steal your parcel or hack it open with a chainsaw, that is not my problem. I will help you file an insurance claim with the post office but I will not grant you a refund of your payment.

This just sounds so dumb. Literally she could send an empty box and she wouldn't be responsible.
Would I be able to file a claim anyways if something does happen?

>> No.7647772 [DELETED]

>>7647770
Haha, she is full of shit. She has to follow paypal's rules no matter what. She can tell you whatever she wants but paypal would give you a refund in a heartbeat if she tried that BS. It's their policy that the seller has to get the package to you in one piece. Like I said in a previous thread, if USPS decides to throw the package in a lake before they deliver it to you, it's the seller's responsibility. That's in paypal's terms. Buyers can't even file insurance claims, though it might be a little different for international parcels but I can't imagine why. You don't have the receipt or proof of packaging or anything.
tl;dr she's full of shit, you can file a claim and mostly likely win.

Not trying to start a debate or anything, just voicing my opinion, but I think I finally realized my real problem with replicas. It's not so much art theft, and it's definitely not muh super secret rich girl club or muh dream dress. It's more about the fact that I think that the better quality a dress is, the more it qualifies as lolita. Things like milanoo and most ebay stuff are considered ita trash, because well, they are, they're made with inferior materials, scratchy lace and shit designs. Bodyline shares a lot of the same issues, but some of their items are passable. Replicas fit into the same shit category other cheap lolita does, bad lace, wonky design, cheap materials, fuzzy prints, and it takes away from not only the look of the coord, but from the original itself, and it fails to include what makes a good dress good.

I do know that more recently a shop has started making high-quality replicas, and honestly, I'm more okay with those than I thought I would be, same with nice design replicas, if the materials and overall quality is good it's actually lolita. Oojia and DoL I will never consider actual lolita because the quality is too low and even though it's trying to look like it, it will never really match up.

As a former owner of a DoL dress, it's not as bad as you think. It isn't milanoo level, not nearly. You just get what you pay for
You pay 20$ for a milanoo dress, 60-80$ for a DoL dress, 100+ for Oo Jia. The one I got was lined with soft fabric and had nice quality lace, not perfect, but not horrible like you're making it out to be.
I don't wear replicas anymore because I don't need to, I can afford brand. But you just sound a bit like you've never actually seen a DoL or OoJia dress. Of course it wouldnt compare to AP or baby, but its not milanoo-tier.

DoL dresses are about $40 - $50 and milanoo sells their dresses for the same price(if not more) I have had experience with replicas of many kinds and no, DoL isn't what you pay for, it's bodyline tier. Looks maybe alright from far a way, but bad and inferior close up.

Also, no one 'needs' to wear replicas, that line of thinking is why people are so entitled.

Extremely rarely, most of stuff on there is ridiculously faked and that just kind of kills it for me. How do they profit from it besides from ads if you don't buy a membership or something?

Not in lolita they don't. A shitty wig is far worse than real hair. There's nothing wrong with natural hair if it looks good. I personally prefer it. Do you even lolita? It's always newbies that say that. Wigs weren't a big thing for the most part until a few years ago.

There was a review posted about them on some girl's blog recently. She basically said Buyee is fine for auctions if they're ending soon but is more expensive than SS like Japonica.
I haven't used them and can't help you with the error message.

Buyee is pretty expensive and apparently not great with customer service. I'd go for From Japan.

Actually, all of that is up to the seller and you have no idea what you're talking about. Paypal works for the seller.

Rosaire is a godess, and honestly one of the better things on this tasteless board. Starting to wonder if everyone here really is ita.

Basically was overcharged by quite a bit and received an order missing an item, and their customer service wouldn't rectify it even after they admitted that they had overcharged me by about 10% and found the item later.
FJ's commission is cheaper than some other duty services, but they have a lot of somewhat hidden fees. For example, you can be charged 5% every time you make a payment through them via Paypal or credit card, so two separate 5% charges for first the item and then the shipping cost.
I, however, was somehow charged roughly 15% overall for my order of several smaller items (figurines). After the items arrived, I noticed that my shipping charge was significantly more (~1000yen) than the shipping quoted on the box and that one of the items was missing.
I got somewhat suspicious and went through all of my records with them (I'd bought ~7 items), which is when I found the overcharge. When I contacted them (they were quick to respond, at least), the person said they'd review my orders. They did so and admitted that there had been an overcharge on one of the items but said they couldn't refund. They also refused to comment on the extra shipping costs and denied missing an item. About a week later they "found" the missing figurine, apologized, and offered to send it, if I paid for shipping again.
I've had shitty service from Japonica recently, but I've never had as shitty of service as I did the last time I used FJ.

I would like to know too. As far as I know, those two were already attending AX? Audra has modeled for conventions fashion shows before, so it isn't really her debut. These two aren't the Kawaii Leader winners right? Are they like.. 3rd place winners? They mentioned another contest result to announce June 7 or 9th. And the last is the leaders contest.

Oh god damn it, Yanise won. She was already getting insufferable after modeling for BABY at the Misako lecture in NYC, I can see this completely blowing up her already overinflated ego and making her crown herself the 'Official NYC Lolita Model' or some dumb shit like that.
Yes, my fucking petti is ruffled.

I would go less with the eyeshadow. is it green? I would go with a light pink or maybe beige, something more natural that goes with lolita. the coord is nice, probably too plain for the average lolita. maybe add a small golden necklace and a ring. plus a matching bag (if you don't have one right now).

I have a little heart btssb bag! I just couldn't find it atm

But I'll look into jewelry! is brand jewelry good quality?

>> No.7652268

>>7652261
I can't see much of the collar part of the blouse, but the sleeves are okay. for brand jewelry I don't know about the quality, as I barely own any brand jewelry, but offbrand will work just as fine, as long as it isn't chunky.

The coordinate is adorable, I really like the balance of it. It's simple without being too boring.

The makeup is off, imo. The eyeshadow looks a bit strange for your skintone. I'm pale, so it's hard to give good advice, but I don't think I'd use that shade on your brow bone, it looks chalky. Maybe try warmer tones? The blush looks a little low, too, but it's hard to tell because of how grainy the pics are. If you're trying to contour, use something less rosy.

I love the coord! But the blouse is a little plain, it looks like just a plain white blouse. A little bow tie or something at the neck would be nice. I agree a bracelet would be nice. I can't see the hair bow but you might want a more lolita one, I'm not sure.

True, DoL is not as horrible as people make it out to be. But it is not as good as higher quality replicas like Oo Jia, Shirley Deer, etc.
I also no longer buy replicas, always could afford brand but couldn't find my dream prints but now I have bought the real thing and no longer need to keep the replica.
And also decided I'd rather not have it at all if I can't have the real thing, it's in the little details what make brand items so great and still sets them apart from replicas.
Some of my replicas (Oo Jia) I kept as they were a different design to the original but I just wear that indoors or in the small ass village I live in where no-one knows this fashion.
