Post about how they should not be objectified and that they are sexulizing cosplay and ruining the hobby.

>Men

>Men in super skimpy cosplay

How is this a complaint against women for /r9k/ if anything it goes to highlight how BS female cosplayers have as opposed to men

>> No.7646875

In all honesty it's a problem with internet culture.

Women sexualise men just as much as men sexualise women. Women will eye up a man's face, his arms, his shoulders, his torso etc. They'll look to see how hairy his arms and legs are, if there's hair on his chest or back. They'll look for whatever they find attractive.

Just as men will look at faces, breasts, butts, legs, waistlines etc.

There is nothing inherently wrong with this. Turning to your nearest friend to make passing comment about another individual is making conversation. If the comment is negative or derogatory or at someone's expense and you're telling your friend in a loud voice hoping that person hears you so you have an excuse for being a jerk....well then you're being a jerk regardless of the genders involved. If the comment is sexually charged and again, designed to be heard....well 9 times out of 10 you're not going to be scoring browny points. If you make appropriate effort not to be heard and make a passing comment to your friend of any kind...well you can make conversation however you like.

The reason why throw away comments and passing cat calls are offensive to women is because it makes them feel vulnerable and threatened more times than it makes them feel attractive. This is mostly because women are inherently not as strong as men, they can be over powered and comments like that, if you're on your own or only in a two, made by a group of, or even one man can put a girl on the spot.

Yes girls can make the exact same type of comments back but it will never (except in rare cases) make the male equivalent feel vulnerable.

However, where the internet is concerned, it gives people the impression that they can say whatever they like without regard for other peoples feelings or consequences. It gives people the impression they can comment on videos or photos or profiles making remarks like 'get your tits out'. Remarks that they would not walk up to the person in real life and say.

Please.
This board rarely has threads like this if not for shit being crossposted over at /r9k/. Cosplay on this board is about the craft and occasional shit talk of cosplay "infamous", not any of this bait-y "why grills so slooty" whining. Go cry about it somewhere else. I'm tired of threads like this popping up and negative replies being misconstrued as "kek feminist BS" when actually we're just tired of idiots creating off-topic, by proxy of the board's "culture", threads. I mean, I've taken a several month long break from /cgl/, has it just gotten worse or is it because it's summer?

The internet is public. Leaving comments on it is much more damaging than a passing comment in real life. Not only does it stick around but it encourages other people to do the same. It gives the impression that this is okay.

It's not okay unless you are invited to make such comments. Say you're looking at deliberately adult material. Make all the lewd comments you want.

For example, put these Super Hero Disney cosplayers next to these Speedo Superheros.

Both feature more skin than their original designs.

Both have relatively attractive people involved.

Both are funny to some degree.

Both are colourful.

And it's always nice to see large groups.

Now we could walk up to the guys and say...nice pecs or nice ass or nice crotch if you wanna go that far.

It's on display right?

That's the reason they're doing the cosplay right?

Just as we could walk up to the girls and say nice tits, nice legs, nice ass etc.

It's on display right?

That's the reason they're doing the cosplay right?

The answer to both is no. There could be a multitude of reasons why any of those pictured would do sexualised cosplay. It's tactless and it's rude and downright shallow to make direct reference to someone's body and imply that they're putting it out their for your benefit as opposed to their own.

Men tend to react differently to women however. Women tend to get offended about body comments more so than men and would, in general, prefer you to talk about the series or the design or the work that went into the cosplay rather than the obvious skin.

To which the response becomes 'chill out woman' whenever she defends her right to not be sexualised.

It is up to the individual how they wish to be treated. It is up to everyone else to respect that. That's being a decent individual. Regardless of your gender.

If I remember correctly, these guys were doing this in the way of a "joke cosplay" One of their goals with this cosplay was to purposely wear little as possible. Pretty cool guys to chat with.
