If you wanted to "cosplay" something from a fashion show [which is pretty asinine if you think about it but okay, I'll give you their costumes are elaborate enough to pull off at a con], might as well do something that is good enough.

You have plenty of references from every single fashion show to create a good cosplay, so you have no excuse, and if you need to be carrying a VS bag so people recognize you, you're fucked to begin with because -you know- your costume isn't that good.

Little background on this for guys who aren't aware. This girl (one the left) shows up at every con in ATL (Momo, DragonCon, Awa, etc) wearing this SAME outfit with some betafag following her around with a sign that has her instagram/twitter/whathaveyou. Except maybe she didn't have her betafag around here since AWA banned signs.

She doesn't do anything else but this one outfit, she doesn't actually cosplay and as far as I know she's not actually a "nerd". She's hoping to gain a following to further a modelling career.

But if you're going to do that in a scene like cosplay, at least I dunno, buy the superhero underwear costumes that are a dime a dozen during halloween. Or even any of Spencer's that are available all year round. Don't just wear the same Victoria Secret undie set you bought 12 months ago.

Welp, looking at her instagram I noticed two things right away: she's got a prettier face than JNig and she's got just as nice of a body (and just as good of a boob job) as JNig. So since her body is as good but her face is noticeably better... this might be some potentially serious competition for JNig if she pursues cosplaying further.

And if it's true that she has a wealthy sugar daddy behind her, she can easily commission better costumes than JNig does (i.e. buying stuff from God Save The Queen Fashions) and pay for more networking options to promote herself.

It's just unfortunate that JNig and Yaya established this process of self-promotion and boobjobs as the norm for being successful in our hobby, because it's no longer just a hobby to enjoy. Now it's an industry to exploit. Cosplay has become more relevant to the mainstream as the generations that grew up on gaming and anime are now being catered to by the mainstream media.

The interesting thing is that both JNig and Yaya were average looking girls who saw a sea full of below-average looking people that they could manipulate into worshipping them. After they spearheaded it's development into an arena that could be used to acquire actual profits and e-fame it was only a matter of time before legitimately pretty girls within the modeling industry found it. I think we're starting to see the beginnings of that.

I've experienced this first hand. There is a girl in my comm who is a tryhard and always bandwagoning to stay relevant. She tried to advertise herself as a model, although all of her photos were just of her taken mostly by her photographer boyfriend.
