The thing is, I understand where this is going. Like, the crown because 'The Little Prince', the purple to match the dress, the stars and wigs because space- like, it has a theme, it sticks to it.

I honestly think this is just a fuckign terrible dress design (which is sad because thats my favorite child's story) and she made a valiant effort.

>> No.7866882

>>7866861
I agree that there is a theme, but I'm going to have to disagree on the "valiant effort" bit. There's just too much going on here, from the mismatched crown/bag/shoes to the multi-colored wig. When you're working with a dress that has a super loud print, the last thing you want to do is pile on extra colors/printed tights/a pastel wig. It's just too much and it actually can hurt to look at.

What are you talking about?
The dress and blouse are okay, but she went OTT nebula on that shit.

>Thighs that get lost in her coord, although I'd like sauce on them.
>Shoes of a pink that doesn't match.
>Brown bag that has nothing to do with a scheme of mostly cool colors.
>Those bows that do not have anything to do either.
>The wig is too bright and pastel for the rest of the coord.
>Roses on her head that have nothing to do with a space theme.

I don't like the dress, but it could've been salvageable had she been more careful with her accessories.

If she can't fit into any of the clothes in the store they are only being helpful by directing her to a store that will have things that will fit her and look cute. What should they have done? Lied to her or put her in something that looked terribad where she is bursting at the seams just to make a sale? They were trying to be helpful.

Also this girl gets overly excited and emotional about things and tends to exaggerate a lot in her videos. I would post some but it looks like she bawleeted them. Neko Pocky Dess, if you're out there, could you back me up with some videos? Thanks!

Plus sized yes, but the girl is clearly morbidly obese. It may have been a misguided attempt to be helpful but they probably didn't know what else to tell her. There may have been something fully shirred that would "fit" her but there wouldn't be enough material in the skirt to give the proper shape and it would look bad.
I think she just didn't like what they had to say so she took it personally and time went on the story got more exaggerated in her mind. She said on her tumblr that the staff called her "bad names". Come on now.

If they were actually knowledgeable about the place where they are employed, they would have known about the possibility of things like dress altering. >>"Things changed however once I went to Baby. The girls there were. Nothing of the girls at AP. Moreover, they were unkind. They glared at me and my mother the entire time (the phrase “if looks could kill” comes to mind). I asked them if they had anything that would fit me, and they were very unpleasant in answering, basically telling me “fat” people unwelcome in their fashion and I should try “something in the mall like Torrid”. Now, if they had been polite at least, I wouldn’t have minded at all. I’m fairly used to people telling me that their store doesn’t carry my size (as most plus sized people are), but the way they said it really upset me. One of them was particularly worse than the other I recall, and that other would have been actually pleasant in better circumstances I think. Still, I felt highly discriminated against. Their level of hostility and their rudeness to my mother really upset me. I did buy a purse, but I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible and back to AP, where the girls were practically the Angels the name implies."

Baby employees sound like little cunts.
Regardless if they thought she was too fat for anything, she can still buy weight neutral things like accessories, shoes, and purses. It's within reason to explain to her that they didn't carry anything in her size, it's another to make someone uncomfortable and treat a customer with a condescending attitude. They shouldn't reject a financial opportunity for THEIR business just because she's bigger.

I'd heard that they have unpleasant customer service, regardless of the customer's size. Telling a customer straight up that they don't fit their product isn't "judging". It's just being factual. You can't really alter a dress to be bigger unless you tell her to buy two and sew them together. Now that would have been rude. (I am aware that there are ways you can make dresses bigger in the back with adding material from waist ties but that probably wouldn't have worked in her case since she's so large.)

Anyway, the Torrid comment aside, it's really bold of her to claim that the staff called her "bad names". If that happened I feel like legal action could have been taken and the shop girl would have been in serious trouble. I'm pretty sure they know better than to do that.

Well it is, because they're assuming that she won't buy the dress just because it won't fit.

I work in fashion retail and I sell dresses too big and too small for people all the time. It's not my business to stop them, or tell them where they should be shopping (lol @ Torrid as their brilliant suggestion).

I mean, in general customer service isn't hard at all. I've spent way too many years in retail and people will get kind of annoyed if you dont have exactly what they want but GENERALLY you can sell them things that can pair with what they are into.

I mean, especially when it comes to lolita. It's a very niche fashion and this girl (regardless of her size) is interested in it. This. ESPECIALLY if you are only a sales associate and don't have the authority to suggest to someone that they find someplace else to shop. Even on a management level you'd NEVER do that because you could get into deep shit with the district if the customer files a formal complaint.

Maybe in Japanese fashion stores they can get away with those attitudes because body shaming is part of their 'culture,' but I witnessed a girl almost get fired for saying something similar.
When I worked at a Michael Kors store a coworker got severely reprimanded after she talked down to this lady who was asking if we carried boots for bigger calves. Turns out the customer actually had oedema from a medical condition and didn't quite like how it was insinuated by the associate that she couldn't fit the boots because she must be too fat for them.

I went into a slightly higher end ( I.e $100-$300) mall shoe store and then a Zara looking like crap because I was tired and just randomly felt like going to the mall. The staff in both places ignored me completely. Zara was worse though since the staff actually gave me stink eye, the manager followed me into the change room, looked me up and down, made sure I brought in the amount I said I did, and basically snatched them right out of my hands as I was putting them away ( everything was too big)

In contrast I've gone to Burberry, coach, and Holt Renfrew looking equally as shit and got nothing but good service.
Mid level mall stores a shit.

I think it was still off on their part. Especially since they're not even high end and most shoplifters do their best to blend in or have large pockets. No good shoplifter calls attention to themselves.
Even though they likely suspected me of doing something, they should be more subtle about it.

Actually, this is a big reason why certain brands limit their sizing, Japanese or otherwise. They have an ideal customer in mind, and promote the image of the brand with models that generally fit that shape.

Generally speaking, it shouldn't be too surprising that brands would use aspirational imagery to elevate the value and status of the brand. As lousy as it is, being overweight is associated with being old, poor and slovenly in the media despite reality. Whether or not you buy into it is your own business, but it works on enough people that it's consistently used in branding and advertising.

>> No.7867559

you know what even drives the brand?

sales.

it's not up to you what this person buys, it's up to you as an employee to sell it to them. Your job is to make money for the store you work for. Telling a person they don't fit the "image" is not up for you to say.

As many other people have said in this thread, a customer shopping at any store may not even be shopping for themselves, so if you just decide to project your opinion on what the "image of the brand" is, you lost a ton of money that day.

Y'all bitches can squabble on the internet about this as much as you like, but I guarantee you that many designers would be happy to take money from anyone. Especially a brand from a very niche and specific style of clothing.

No.

The fashion got popular and brand designers saw dollar signs. Now it's easy for you sitting in whatever country to have that baby or AP dress at a click of a button. They want money, bro. Even if that means they have to release a dreaming melty bunnycat shirring JSK along with all their other shit.

Point is, you don't sell ill fitting close if you work for a brand that gives a damn about it's image. Why would you? Sure, you don't actively stop people from buying something if they really want to, but it IS your JOB to advise them about their purchase and help them find something that fits.

Yes, and I applaud the brands that have done so. But I wasn't just referring to lolita brands in my statement, it's common with higher end fashion brands as a whole.

You are absolutely right in your assessment that sales are a major motivation for design adjustments, but depending on market reach and status of brand they can eventually get to the point where they are able to turn away customers.

My original point was addressing perception of brand. If Baby or AP -really- wanted to reach out to girls of all sizes it'd be reflected in their models and photoshoots.

nah

also youre a bit wrong, it's your job to take their money and give them what they want. i used to work in a music store. if someone is adamant about buying a particular guitar or mic or software that i happen to think is a bad idea, its not my job to tell him to go to somewhere else because i wont sell him the shitty thing he wants. do i gently try to get him to buy something better? yes. however, this is not accomplished by me telling him to go to a different store, this is accomplished by me trying my best to find something that fits his needs IN our store, the store he came to for a reason. and i dont try to pressure him. at the end of the day, if he says he wants X, then he gets X. and if i dont have what he wants, its my job to help him in whatever way that i can in the store, so he doesnt leave unhappy. its not my business what he wants to do with the thing hes buying, its gonna be his property and he can do whatever he wants with it.

youre a retail salesperson, not the fit police. if someone wants shoes that are a half size too small thats their business. if someone wants a dress that is too small, its not your place to tell them they cant have it. if someone wants to buy a shitty first act guitar and nothing else, then thats what i sell them

>> No.7867645

>>7867631
That doesn't apply here, really. When someone wants a flute and you only sell guitars, you'd send them somewhere else.
Why do you even sell something if you think it's shitty btw?
Sure, I won't flat out refuse to sell something, but I'm always being honest. Polite, but honest.
If I wasn't, it would create a negative backlash sooner or later, brands know this.
The goal is to make people happy with their purchase, not make them realize they bought something they really have no use for and blame it on the brand/store.

Also, I can refuse to let costumers try on stuff if I think they'll damage it.

And if a fat girl goes into Baby and they tell her they don't sell clothing her size, that's fine as long as they're polite.
Not because they're the "fit police", but because in all factuality they don't sell stuff that would fit the girl.
Sure, she can buy stuff like purses, but when they told her they don't sell dresses her size, they were just being honest.
What else should they have done? Given her dresses that she couldn't zip up?

>> No.7867657

A lot of brands don't and won't carry sizes for certain people because their image is not targeted at them. They have a costumer in mind and they want to cater to that kind of costumer in particular. It mostly has to do with status.

I think it's different when you're talking about guitars and musical instruments.

Lolita dresses are expensive, especially if they're brand.

If a fat girl gets into a store and you let her try on any dress she wants, there's the potential risk of her damaging the merchandise.

A broken zipper or a tear on the fabric could happen, and your job is yes, suggest better stuff that might fit the costumer, but also being honest about what could and couldn't fit them. You still have to protect the merchandise from getting damage while pleasing the customer at the same time.

they could have sold her whatever she wanted. maybe shed fit into it eventually, who knows. again, not their business to say 'wtf are you even going to do with this dress?'

re: trying on stuff, see my second reply

>>7867667
there are a lot of similarities, actually. you notice them when you are familiar with both niches. there is always a risk for damage. people damage guitars trying them out all the time. skinny people damage things when they try them on all the time. its a risk that you have to deal with. and when did she say she wanted to try on the dresses? maybe she looked up measurements in advance and just wanted to buy something outright, take it home and do whatever she wanted with it?

if they were interested in being honest, they would have told her about her options, not just "nothing will fit. go to torrid". ya'll are acting like she has no options when she does. or hell she couldve done what cupcakeclothes does and bought 2 skirts and sewed then together, who knows

Now this is something where I can mention her in particular.

She's known for being oversensitive about the fashion and the people who are into it. Her story sounds exaggerated because she still bought a bag. If you feel so offended by someone's attitude either you leave or you talk to the manager.

Lolita fashion isn't something that just anyone can wear, whether or not they like it.

Sure, some retail workers are cunts, and sure, sometimes there are attitudes which are uncalled for, but it's just sketchy and it honestly depends on the brand.

> like even with her exaggerations people are just like "ya i dont see a problem"
Because honestly a lot of us don't have a problem with it.
A lot of stores are full of snobby bitches who will look up and down at you if you're not dressed a certain way.

My sister-in-law got an attitude from two workers at an Armani booth because she was wearing sweatpants.

I also got a snarky attitude from a woman at a booth at the mall, and I wasn't even there to shop, it was my mom, all because I was wearing a hoodie and Converse, as well as getting terrible customer service from a woman years ago when I went to repair my watch just because she didn't like how we looked, despite it being a designer watch.

I've gone to boutiques like Carolina Herrera, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Christian Dior, and the attitude -does- change depending on how you look, you know why? Because fashion isn't about inner beauty.

They aren't selling you feelings, they're selling you clothing, and certain kinds of clothing, whether or not you like it, don't fit you.

You want lolita clothes? Find clothes from brands that actually fit you.

I am not saying that it's a nice experience to be bitched at or to have employees giving you an attitude or treating you like you're some sort of delinquent, but it is also true that some customers are a pain in the ass. But like you said, we don't know and this has been going on for longer than it should

I've been to a few Baby shops in the Tokyo area fairly recently and never felt uncomfortable or unwelcome in them. The workers have all been very nice, attentive but not too attentive, willing to help me find pieces and try them on, and totally pleasant when I decided to just buy accessories (bag, some socks, and some hair pieces).
I like how the only thing you mention that made you uncomfortable was how the workers were smiling.

I agree that it happens a lot, but I definitely think that the shop has the prerogative to tell you to fuck off. I would do the same thing.

I don't care if you have your own money, it's their item and they don't have to sell it if they don't think you're good enough.

Your positive experience does not nullify my negative one. I hope you are aware of that. But, yes, the sarcastic smile left a bad impression, as well as the fact that the staffs did not bother with me until I took a blouse and a bag to the cashier. Then they did what Japanese people is programmed to do: pretend they're polite and did their job. Granted, this happened many years ago (2008), so maybe they got better.

I'm not in any way trying to invalidate what you're saying because this post is spot on and definitely reflects the overall attitude of the fashion community, I just wanted to add that I work in retail for a luxury fashion brand and that our company works really hard to discourage this sort of judgmental attitude in its associates. They really drill it into your head that you have no idea what kind of money someone has simply based on how their dressed and it's a really big deal for us.
I also personally do try to sell good feelings alongside luxury items, because that's what will build both a good overall reputation for the brand and good clientele, which inevitably turns into more sales. It's clear to see how a few bad or misinterpreted situations can harm a brand's image, and even if it doesn't shut them down I still don't think a niche brand like Baby can really afford to have less-than-friendly shop girls. If I were in their position, I'd see an overweight girl coming in the store as an opportunity to sell accessories, bags, and other things that aren't exclusive because of size. Not to mention, an overweight customer almost always has the potential to lose weight and I'd like to be able to sell her a dress later on down the road if she does; there's no sense in turning away a potential customer just because she can't make a purchase that day.
Sorry for the small rant, I'm really passionate about sales and making people feel good about what they buy.

>> No.7868272

Like I said, fashion isn't about feelings or inner beauty.

Although I didn't appreciate my $300 watch sitting there for two months, already repaired.
I happened to want to get it fixed with the provider and the lady at the mall didn't want to do it for some reason despite not having anything to do with it. It was just a matter of sending it to the provider and that's it. The brand already sold me the watch so she could honestly just fuck off and do her job.

>> No.7868283

>>7868271
No need to be sorry for the rant, you're passionate about it so I have no right to judge your fashion.

It just sometimes frustrates me because some brands aren't friendly or just they don't give a shit about sales because they already make a lot of money and they know it, so I don't really see the point of some people being all up in arms about it because at the end of the day they won't care.

I have encountered a lot of snobby employees thinking they know more about you about fashion simply because of how you're dressed. It hasn't been until I show I actually know what I'm talking about and I deliberately dressed like shit because I felt lazy that they tone down the attitude and are polite. It really just depends on the brand, and the kind of clients they attract.

For example the ladies at Chanel are always nice, eager to help, and friendly, but Armani is a different thing and well idgaf about that one, I hate that brand anyway. I was also a fatty, so I also got my cut of snarky attitude and people looking up and down at me and yeah, that makes you feel shitty, but either you complain about it or ignore them and do your thing.

Baby may not have the luxury of being bitchy to the customers, but I guess that'll reflect on their sales.

Whereas my experience with AP employees at cons has only been positive. They really don't care if you're in normalfag clothes or head to toe AP--they'll try to get you to make a sale. I had three girls doting on me when I went to try on a single dress, and they all oohed and awwed. To be fair, they kinda seemed to be laying it on thick (They were like "Kawaii! Oh my god you MUST get this.") BUT it made me feel good, even if they were just trying to make a sale, haha!

Erm. But she linked the thread here, and is now loudly whining about it. I mean...somewhere, deep down inside her butthurt self, she must be craving the burn.
Don't be an idiot, nebula-chan. The print is an eyesore, and that's what we ended up picking apart here. Of course, you went ahead and made all about yourself.

Oh my god are you kidding, Claire is like the nicest girl on Earth. I think all of this come from a cultural differencies, but Baby's staff in Paris is definitly nice. I only had bad experience with AP.

In which country ? In mine, people for higher end store (read anything that's above fast fashion, let's say starting from 60€+ a dress) are expected to give you an ACTUAL service by helping you with the size and fit of your clothes, giving their opinion and everything. They would be ashamed to let someone damage their shop's display clothes or having them leave with unfitting items. I don't know, we expect people working in fasion store to have an actual eye for fashion, which is stupid I suppose. Straight up telling someone that something won't fit is normal. Not saying they are fat, just factually noticing that this thing won't fit.
