It's Marfan Syndrome. I have a similar disorder that makes me look gross too (though not nearly as gross, thank the heavens). It's very difficult to put on weight and you grow too much, leaving you ridiculously lanky, and as you continue to grow past the usual stopping age, it just gets worse as you get older.

Low body fat + lanky limbs = gross ana-chan holocaust survivor body. It's extremely difficult to feel good about yourself when you literally look like you're made of jut skin and bone, the fact that these two are confident enough to cosplay is great for them.

...I have a few questions.
1. Why the fuck did she use a dark blue? Peridot's outfit has very clearly black accents, not blue. (Unless the lighting is weird, but I thought I remembered wips that seemed blue too)
2. Those legs are way shorter than Peridot's actual legs. Which, to be fair, has to be the case for her to be able to move, but she could've made them slimmer to look more flattering/accurate.
3. Why do the fingers look so poorly done? Maybe it's the wire but they just look really off, or like she put them on last minute.

I want to like this because she actually bothered to make the arms/legs out of a hard material rather than fabric, but it's just not quite there.

1. The material is actually dark green, not blue. I dyed it after realizing it was far too blue, but the lighting is just off and weird because of the overhead light. Pic related is the dye difference, but I'm thinking I should probably do one more dunk to make them even greener. I've still got time.
2. The legs are shorter because of movement, yeah, and they're wide at the bottom because we used the size of my foot as the diameter for the circle the whole way around.
3. The fingers were my second attempt to better wire them, but the wires are still too long and not attached properly so I'm going to fix that. I tried to place them in areas where the fingers would have been but now I'm thinking of scrapping the wires and just putting the tubes on the hands directly.
4. The bangs need to be fixed yes. I just got excited because everything was like 99% done. I'm still working on things, I've got 4 days.

Whatever the OP cosplayer's body, I think their outfit is generally well-chosen and well-made.

Personally, I'd really love to see more guys dress up as Gems without any stupid "gender-bent" design changes. I think the overtly feminine costumes are great and all, but it'd be interesting to see more that change it up a little.

I could nitpick about the tunic and the boots, but her body paint is really good. So many Amethysts I've seen use super flimsy cotton for the tunic and it bothers me. At least this tunic is made from a heavier material so it looks cartoony. (Plus I bet it was nice and warm)

The main part of the wig doesn't really look bad, but the big pieces of bangs at the front make it look really off because Peridot doesn't seem to have bangs. Her canon hair (from what I can see) seems to fall to the sides of her face from the part, and they're small pieces too.

The fingers are a bad color and from many angles look bad because they're all at the same position; I think if I were to redo them, I'd scrap the wire completely and just put tubes on the end of my actual fingers, and wear a black glove underneath to hide my palm.

Just my two cents though.

Raw edges for knit fabrics look like real shit. All floppy! The points would start to stretch out as well. If I were making it, I'd put a patch of fabric behind the knees (or just double up on tights), satin stitch the star outlines with my machine, then cut out the shapes. That way the points wouldn't be so limp and threadbare.

As for her arms, you can see they come from the same socket, so it wouldn't be as difficult as Opal. Easier still is that she has an actual shirt, so that opens up the possibly for harness and straps and such.

One thing I learned from doing Sugilite is that the placement of the second set of eyes is tricky. I did a poor mans prosthetic of latex and scar wax, but if you want your eyes facing in the same plane as your real eyes you have to build up around your temple. My arms had a armature of copper wire and a harness of elastic around my shoulders. It helps that I didn't have to do a elbow joint. Enjoy my constricted fat arm.

Whoops sorry for the late reply. I totally forgot to mention before that I also used some got2b hairspray. Definitely try gluing the hair to fabric though, rather than just foam. You can hot glue a layer of fabric over all of the foam. Also you can use a bit more glue on the layers of hair that won't really show. I don't know if you've read His Dark Materials, but me and a friend had a similar discussions about Daemons. Many lower class people have dogs and cats, rats, common street animals. Many of the scholars, students and professors have birds or more generally considered intelectual animals. There are a billion animals in that world but we never see someone with, say, an elephant. Despite there obviously being people who would identify with an elephant. It's the same for otherkin, I'd imagine. I too am bugged by the "I AM [character]!" but at the end of the day it's just easier to identify with something you know and for most people those animals are wolves or cats or deer or rabbits. I'm sure that if we talked more about, say, spiders as not *just* scary bugs more people would be be kin with those too.

I don't know, live and let live. Most of these extreme people are still in their teens. I'm more bothered by the fact that they're raised in a community where everything is so black and white. Either you're a crusader for social justice and perfect in every way, or you're an useless heap of trash and should be destroyed. I would definitely go with paradise sky or lagoon blue. Wolfe paint is wax based, which means it has awesome opacity but is also very heavy/sticky and would probably suck for full face/body coverage. Paradise is very lightweight, but opaque. I would actually use sky for the base and lagoon for contouring.

No problem! I think I've changed my opinion though. I just painted the underside of my arm with lagoon blue, and it's very patchy. Paradise paints in general have that problem, especially in darker colors. They're great for commercial face painting, but maybe not the best choice for body makeup. Looking at your chart again, I think TAG light blue could work. Tag is also wax based, but it doesn't seem as heavy as wolfe paints. The elecrtic blue color will probably look a lot better in photos anyways.

I checked the skinny rose quartz tag yesterday, because I almost couldn't believe tumblr shitting on artist for drawing rose skinny (just kidding, I do believe tumblr's amount of craziness has no limit).
And there are literally people saying "Ppl who draw rose skinny don't deserve their ability." or "If you draw rose skinny I will kill you/punch you/hurt you" and "It should be illegal to draw rose skinny".

There also haven't been any super-compelling scenes with her - in her only appearance so far, she's forced to playact a role and the entire scene is uncomfortable. If she gets more screentime where she's in her element and fighting and looking badass, she might garner more favour with fans.

All the wigs I find are either too dark purple or white, when her hair is a very light shade of purple, and the wigs I found are more like her in the show. And I don't have a clue about body paint, I just don't want to end up looking like a blueberry. I've found most of the accessories and some of the clothing.

I've found that Jasper wigs that are pure white look kind of bad, but that's also probably because all the Jasper wigs I've seen (aside from one or two) are really flat and thin. If you teased up a white wig for crazy good volume, I think it'd look fine. She's definitely not blonde, so I wouldn't do that.

For Amethyst I'd try to find a light purple, because white might be too stark a contrast with the rest of the costume. It's odd though because in the most recent episode her hair looks a lot whiter (matches her boots).

The character really suits you.

The first thing I noticed was that the lighter blue parts look a little flimsy. I don't know if lining them or using a different fabric would fix that. Also the ends of your gloves look a little ragged. Other than that I think lighter paint is a good idea and just make sure to paint far enough down on your chest and you'll look great
