So just wondering, for either cosplayers or lolita, are you just as fashionable as a normalfag or have no fashion sense outside of this hobby?

self posting encouraged, i'm curious to see what cal looks like outside of it's hobby.

Like i want to predict you'll be more fashion conscience because you spend your whole time coording, making sure your wigs and props are on point etc.

but the reality seems to be far from that

I have fashion sense but it probably isn't considered fashionable, especially based on feedback I've gotten, I am not fashionable at all. I don't really care though, I enjoy having some fun with my clothes and some days I don't feel well and don't want to wear anything other than baggy pants and an oversized men's t shirt.

I like to wear quirky, comfy clothes whenever possible though.

>> No.8234857

I feel like I dress better in normalfag clothes than I do in lolita. Maybe because I'm just starting or maybe because lolita is so different. I dress in sort of boring but classy outfits day-to-day so I find my coords sort of lackluster. I can't accessorize to save my life. Whereas I'd normally put on my bracelet and a hairclip and call it a day, I need completely different sorts of accessories for lolita that I just never think about buying.

I wear a lot of otome-esque outfits everyday though. Maybe I should just stick to otome, but I love gothic too much.

The key here is "or work." I don't know about you guys but I'm a fucking workaholic if I have to be honest with myself. I thought about doing this but the result would be: 1) j fash 2) suit

That's it. That's all I wear.

I'm trying to step up my normal fashion. Other than my super fancy cute shit I wear when i feel like trying my closet is mostly $10 jeans from forever21 and basic black shirts.

Now that I'm not working the floor in retail and am doing bookkeeping I can dress nicer and work on my makeup and hair skills. It's really nice not waking up at 4am for stock shifts

>> No.8234888

Not really. My dress code at work is SUPER strict (black pants, black collared shirt, black sneaks, hair up off neck, no jewelry), and can't say u dress much better outside it. I would say I have an decent fashion sense, I just refuse to do anything about until I am finish losing weight and happy about my figure. I'm really interested in fashion outside of lolita. I'm a mid-20s grad student so I try to dress somewhat casual professional. I can be a bit too uptight Banana Republic looking sometimes, so I've tried to incorporate more of a darker edge to it recently so I stop looking like such a yuppie prick.

>> No.8234939

Nah.

I'm a grad student, and t-shirts/sweaters with jeans/tights/sweats all winter, and tank-and-shorts or a jersey sundress all summer. Max winter dressiness is sweater dresses. I don't accessorize because I fiddle with jewelry and think hats in the classroom is disrespectful.

At work it's (J Crew No 2 pencil skirt in black, navy, or kelly) + (scoop-neck solid or small-pattern shell in a soft color. 50% chance of being a shade of blush pink) + (cardigan, jersey fake-suit jacket, or actual suit jacket) + (2" brown or black pumps) + (small necklace) + (small bracelet). My work wardrobe is beyond conservative.

>> No.8234961

I'd consider myself very fashionable. I wish I could afford better normal clothes, but I pump so much of my extra money into lolita, cosplay, and school. I make a lot of my clothes. I'm also going for my degree in fashion design

A lot of my lolita clothing will cross over into my gothic wardrobe. But mostly I will wear super daggy clothes when I'm not wearing gothic or lolita attire. My wardrobe is mostly black with some red, pink and lavender/purple. I want to dress lolita more and more casually too. When i get a job i won't dress in lolita but at least (if office job) integrate some cuteness/jfash elegance rather to be plain. I'm insanely awesome at dressing my normalfag friends/family. I seriously have my older sister up my ass constantly emailing me pics of clothes. "Anon what do you think of this for my date?" Myself not so much. I usually just throw on a black band T and some jeans. Probably because I'm a fart at being feminine.

Side note: everywhere I see people say colorful hair and big glasses are female fedora. I've been rocking baby blue locks for years, it gave me confidence when I was going through hard times. Plus I have really thick granny glasses cuz I need them.

I only like rockabilly/retro/pinup styling if it's head to toe and hair and makeup are done. Capri leggings, scuffed flats, no jewelry, ratty (not ratted) hair don't cut it. Done correctly, it's as detail-oriented as Lolita. The GOOD ones do take from history and some even wear and collect vintage but don't claim the look is 'historically accurate'. I wouldn't mind trying 1-2 complete retro-inspired looks and learn simple hair/makeup for it. Tumblr-billy can die in a fire.

Unfortunately here 'stylish' is the $$ tailored jeans, boots, bags and blonde blowouts look with fake or real tan. Ugh. Too much brown LV and knee boots. Southern US, pretty typical for upper middle class, I guess.

I wear my lolita things mixed with gothic things or wear easy-to style simple dresses most days. Gym-wear only at the gym.

If you can't avoid fast food get scrambled eggs at McDonalds in the morning. Or even an egg white delight is better than a big mac. Even better MOTHERFUCKING JACK IN THE BOX

Jack in the Box is hte shit because you can customize your stuff and they don't usually give you too much hassle. I get three sides of scrambled eggs and a diet coke every morning before class and the bowl is HUGE like there's no way they measured the egg juice they use because it's like 5 eggs. My friend! I never understood girls who liked them so much they practically lived in jeans. Even weirder was the girl who had to explain to me that jeans had to be "softened" by wearing them for a day or two after laundry day. Do people really just not wash their jeans for a whole week?!

Lolita clothes are so much easier, I got fat and all that happened is that I had to loosen the corset lacing on some of my dresses. I had to buy new work clothes, though. Which I will then have to throw out once I lose weight again. Sheesh.

I love the feeling of wearing long glamorous dresses and the feeling of wearing a garter belt and stockings underneath. Plus it's more socially acceptable than lolita. >> No.8235726

In my free time: general j-fashion, short skirts with black or colored tights, cute tops, light makeup (if any).

At work: frumpy retro office clothing. A classmate described me as having a 'fabulous vintage style' once, but I don't know whether she was being genuine or not.

I've been starting to wear makeup more recently, mainly because I want to look young and a lot of the foundations give some sun cover. We'll see how long this lasts when I start my 80-100 hour weeks in a few months though, heh.

>> No.8235787

I wear lolita and ouji and have a few otome outfits. Goth-grunge-grandad is the summary of my daily wear. Though I used to wear j-fash a lot, it attracted the wrong sort of attention where I lived so I stopped. I get a lot of compliments on what I wear despite not really being that fashionable imo, but I think it's because I'm with people that wear the current fashion 'uniform' so I just look different rather than always looking good.

I feel like I'm floundering both in and out of lolita. In lolita, I prefer classic and simpler coords, but I sometimes worry about making myself look fancy (and then polished too) enough for special occasions.

Outside of lolita, I'd say my main love is himekaji, but because I don't feel that many brands are worth their price tag as much as lolita I acquire pieces much more slowly. I also love nanchatte seifuku, vintage stuff, and otome, and just cute generic "cute top and skirt and thigh highs" kind of vaguely jfash outfits. I feel like I struggle with a cohesive wardrobe; I'll buy pieces and never wear them or only wear them a little bit and then purge pieces after. It's hit and miss; some of my outfits are great, others not to much.

I think what bugs me the most is that the styles are so different to each other so it might be jarring to show up one day looking like kawaii pink princess in a mini skirt and then wear a conservative vintage piece the next day. But apparently other people do it too so I try not to let it bother me, haha.

I live in a midsized Canadian city and for most of the year fashion is really boring. At my school girls default to the good ol' yoga pants and uggs combo, or moto boots and jeans/leggings and maybe a cute top with accessories if you're lucky. Asian students dent to wear cuter things but just barely. In the summer there's a bigger variety and I'm so happy to see dresses and such but even then it's the latest trends from the mall so people end up looking so similar to each other. To confess, wearing jfash lets me be a special snowflake without the rest of the obnoxious behaviour, so that's pretty great for me.

My favorite outfits range from weeb to super weeb. I don't have much places to wear cute stuff so it's for around the house, to the mall, or with friends. When I'm out with the family I rarely subject them to outfits without pants. I save outfits like the bottom two for youtube dance covers.

I'm a cosplayer so I don't have time to wear these outfits at cons.

I'm guessing this is a "outside of lolita" thread?
Here are some outfits, I usually just try dressing comfy and cute, or jfashion inspired clothes on regular days.

I dress really boring and normal outside of J-fashion. In fact, I don't really have any pictures of myself in regular stuff, so have some bad bathroom pictures of what I'm wearing today.

I work a remote support job with a bunch of dudes, so I kind of don't give a shit about how I look. Clients never see me, so I don't bother with makeup beyond concealer and always do my hair in a bun.

Sometimes I dress cute on weekends (short knit dresses with leggings, usually) but of course I have no pictures.

I used to be really into goth but over the past couple of years, my black stuff has got more and more worn and faded, left my wardrobe when it got too scruffy-looking, but didn't get replaced because I've been spending my clothes money on lolita. I'm not gonna spend money on nice goth stuff when I could buy lolita. Relatives gift me nice-ish clothes but not black, and goth-suitable clothes are hard to find in thrift shops near me.

Other than goth, usually wear some combination of nice jumper + jeans + boots, not baggy T-shirts and hoodies with leggings. A while back I pared down to a capsule wardrobe, and I stick to a defined colour palette to try and ensure that everything matches in order to minimise the money I have to spend on non-lolita clothes. You could say I dress in a way that's reasonably fashionable (or at least professional), but I don't follow trends at all because buying stuff only to decide it's out of style within a few months is not my thing. Plus, since I got into lolita, I value quality in clothes more - I'll pay £100 for a dress with loads of details and material, but I'm not paying £40 for a fucking tube skirt that probably cost less than a fiver to make. I still sometimes read fashion magazines and keep up with trends though, partly because I enjoy feeling bitter and salty whenever something fugly is in fashion (which is a lot), partly because I do have a normalfag clothes wishlist and when certain stuff that's on that list (say, tartan) comes into fashion it gives me a chance to buy it a few months later when they all go on sale.

If I get a job with more hours I'll start diverting some of my fun money into other fashions (I'd like to spend ~£200 getting a little goth mini-capsule wardrobe going again, and maybe another £200 filling in gaps in my normal wardrobe and replacing stuff that's got really worn out), but for now I just focus on lolita and can't afford to follow trends in other fashions.

I'm moving across country to a big city soon (and not a sketchy area of said city either) and I'm planning on wearing lolita a lot more often. I wash mine every few days. The stuff about how you should never wash them is bullshit, and since most jeans don't have the whole thing where washing will ruin the fade like Levi 501s do, it doesn't even make a difference to the look of the jeans if you wash them. They don't get dirty after one wear but after a few wears they smell less clean (not sweaty and gross, just don't smell clean) or I've spilt something on them and they go in the wash.

Ahhh I struggle with this. Like, I want to get into mori, already have a couple of pairs of suitable shoes and wigs, and the thrift stores near me are full of mori-appropriate shit, so I know if I put $100 or something aside I could get myself a nice little mori wardrobe going. But I can't bring myself to do it when there's always something in lolita coming up that I want to spent that $100 on.

Ah, I don't really like clubbing. I go to clubs when they've got a DJ I love playing, or are doing a specialist set night, but your generic club that plays generic club music I don't like at all. It was great when I was at uni in a big city and I had the pick of different venues, could go to a goth bar or a gay club or a fetish night or a drum and bass event or an oldschool rave night, but where I live right now there's just one shitty club for the town and it's awful. There are some rave events if I'm willing to travel but they're not great.

I don't take drugs either, but I prefer the atmosphere of places where people are on ecstasy to where alcohol is the main focus (I also don't drink). It's a pity most events nowadays feature a big mix of drugs, from hallucinogens to designer drugs to alcohol to cocaine, rather than just pure E). I just really love the music. I feel like I can have transcendental experiences just with the music itself.

To bring it back to topic, I used to have a lot of clothing related to this stuff. All sorts of Cyberdog shit, UV reactive T-shirts and cybergoth clubwear and a looot of trainers. I sold a lot of it off now I don't live in the city because I don't really get to use it at all.

>realise I'd probably have better luck in fairy kei sales comms
>they're fucking public not private so if I post in them everyone on my friends list will see

Never have I regretted not having separate lolita and normal Facebook accounts more.

clubbing is awful for me since I don't drink, I love to dance but guys are always trying to rub their dicks on me so I get scared. I'm sorry your scene isn't good, you should come visit Texas some time! Or stay far away, both are reasonable choices haha, and also to get back ot, do you wear anything now influenced by rave culture (really bright colors, accessories, etc.) and have you looked into decora before?

I'm curious, how many people actually try to have a "colour palette" for their normal wardrobe? Does it really work in practice? I've never really heard of people doing it IRL for things other than workwear, other than goths who insist on black only.

>>8234823 I am not very fashionable to be honest when it comes to my normal clothes. My normal everyday wear is a cute T-shirt, some skinny jeans, a matching bag, and shoes or boots, and lets not forget my god awful grandma sweaters <3. I do enjoy lolita fashion because it gives me an outlet to go all out .

Not really! I don't really see many/any people in the fluffy tutus and five million kandi bracelets ravewear that's associated with the US. There's a lot of T-shirts and trainers, a lot of hippy/boho/grunge shit at anything held outside or that's small and local, and a lot of cyber stuff and Cyberdog. A lot of dance music clubbing can be found somewhat in the mainstream too, so if you go to something for, say, DnB they may well be dressed in normal clubwear or urban streetwear stuff.

Decora's definitely not for me but I really like the black x neon green colour combination you get in some rave gear (and nerd gear) and I've kept my stuff in that colour combo because it's something I really love but that will never be acceptable in lolita. It gives me huge nostalgia for when I was younger and thought The Matrix looked super cool and green text on a black background was the coolest, most hackery shit ever. I actually wanna get more black and neon green and futuristic stuff. It's cheesey but I really love it.

Likewise, I use my normalfag goth wear as an outlet for blackxred colour combos (even though it's mostly still blackxgrey or blackxblack) because I generally don't like that combination in lolita unless the red is restricted to accessories.

I did it for a couple of years when I had a school dresscode (and didn't go out or even get out of pyjamas on most weekends so I got very little wear out of non-dresscode stuff). The idea was to get a set of colours where every colour would match most other colours, and I couldn't have slogan T-shirts or prints. I did:
>cream/oatmeal
>olive and dark green (not a yellow-toned olive, a more green-toned or mossy one)
>rust orange
>wine/dark red
>navy (only for bottoms/jeans because it doesn't suit my skintone)
>black/charcoal
>some brown boots/bags/belts

Rose/dusty pink would have worked really well with that palette but I only ever had one jumper that colour. Then I had a couple of base pieces in white because it's hard to avoid even though it's not a very flattering colour on me, a couple of bright red items that mostly went with black stuff, and a bright blue T-shirt. It all worked well together, although it left me in autumn colours most of the year. I'm still working with a similar colour palette tbh, but that's because it suits me.

My brother was obsessed with the matrix anon, its cute you like black and green as much as he does probably haha

Thats interesting that you're into lolita and not decora or fairy kei, they're both loud fashions like cyber, in a sense

but I'm glad you have something you like!

I like lolita more for the historical aspects than the kawaii side, I mostly dress in gothic and classic although some sweet dresses do tempt me. Decora and fairy kei are definitely "like, but not on me" styles - I look shit in pastels and feel uncomfortable with a lot of accessories, and I'm generally not the cutesy type, so I don't think they'd suit me at all.

What drew you to decora?

I feel the most comfortable in decora! It suits me, idk if you can tell but I'm super short (4'9") so decora, fairy kei, and pastel colors suit my height and frame

although sweet might work for me too, maybe? sweet is awesome to me!

I think dresses and tights would be a lot more flattering than that style of skirt and socks that kind of cut you off. Not a big fan of the outfits or coconut head wig either, but your natural (?) hair and make up in the upper right is fantastic. I think you would really suit more mature, darker styles, but that's probably just my own bias since I tend to prefer those.

Me too, when i was a teen i used only jeans but now my hips are a tiny bit wider jeans or just skinny pants in general fall too low and with a belt i feel suffocating. I use mostly skirts and dresses with tights or leggins with kawaii tops, way more comfortable (i have IBS). I noticed wearing more dresses or skirts especially the lolita ones or flared/skater made me not seeing i gained a bit weight instead with pants it's more noticeable, but i'm not overweight yet.
