With all of those non binary genders and new sexualities, there aren't really any determinants. Lesbianlolita does not actually identify as male, but as GENDERVOID (aka speshul snowflake trying to make a bad political point that gender is pointless). I am not blinded by anything. Those cultures see transgendered women as a separate gender from women-women. They see different sexualities as different genders. They see anyone varying from their defined gender roles as a different gender. This is what the sjws do with all of their "genderqueer" stuff, this is what people usually are against. Trans people in the olden days could not get hormones or sex reassignment surgery. They simply conformed to the opposite gender role from their sex to feel as close to their true selves as possible and keep the dysphoria at bay. They weren't "true" women/men because they still had the same sex characteristics as the opposite gender, and even those olden societies acknowledged that sex and gender are linked (this can be seen through their separate genders for trans people, because a penis made a man, and if someone was a man who filled a female role then this person was clearly somewhere in-between). Those days you can transition properly via surgery and hormones. There is no need for a separate gender for a trans person because they can completely assimilate to the look of the desired sex.

If you look at old dictionary definitions, you're correct, gender used to be synonymous with sex. My biology classes in high school used the terms interchangeably, as did my psychology and sociology courses in early college.

But gender now is seen as a largely societal thing. I honestly think the concept of gender as anything but biological is the most useless shit in the world, and only serves to perpetuate stereotypes of genders by insisting that certain thoughts/behaviors are inherently male or female, but to each their own.

This. All of the people who point out that gender is a social construct because other cultures have more/different genders from us clearly haven't looked at said cultures. Gender is biologically linked and more or less the same as sex, aside from the case of trans people (who do everything they can to appear as their desired sex). Their speshul multi gender cultures had very strict gender roles, and if you didn't fall under those you were considered to be a unique gender. And even back then, gender and sex were linked. Trans men were their own distinct gender, trans women their own gender too (in most cases). Trans women were not real women to their revered cultures. Seeing as the tumblrtards want to break gender roles and want trans women to be considered as real women, the obvious answer is to stick with our current male/female genders, defined by primary and secondary sex characteristics - and just more or less abolish gender roles.
