I have on odd request, seagulls.

Do they have RHS with smaller soles / flat or low heeled shoes with straps like RHS?

I love the look of the straps but I'm tall, lanky, and clumsy and that big platform does nothing to improve the look of any of those things.

Like the tie-up laces? You'd probably have to dig through "ballerina" and other related terms. There's also cross strap platforms that are super popular in Japan. Brands like ank rouge, liz lisa/tralala, and stuff usually carry them. I'd actually highly recommend you to check out we-go: http://gocart.jp/_search/search_result.html?p_sid=878&p_tycid=118&p_tyid=2091&p_cutyid=2

This isn't unique to lolita. I was into BJDs before this, and parts of Den of Demons were devoted to making fun of other people's BJDs. It just seems to be a habit for some people to make fun of others.

Probably the same reason lolitas get "Bo Peep" and "It's not Halloween" comments on the street. There's no reason for random strangers on the street to be mean to each other even if they don't like the way the other looks, either, but people do it anyway. I don't think it's lolitas being high schoolers, it seems to be Western culture that if you don't like something, you express it, possibly rudely, I guess?

If anything, lolita puts a damper on expressing one's opinions, so a lot of girls come to cgl "to vent", because if they do it in public with their names attached they might get a rep for being mean. It would seem that they feel a pressure to express their true opinions, even if it means being mean about someone they don't know about, otherwise they wouldn't need to "vent" at all.

On the other hand, I don't really get why newbies think the ita thread and nitpick thread are something great to learn things from. The nitpick thread especially is becoming filled with girls who get posted just because someone dislikes their face or a pair of shoes or some nonsensical thing like that.

I wonder if the newbies now think participating in the ita/nitpick threads are somehow integral to "being a lolita" now. It's honestly just a place for girls to be as horrible as they want since their name is not attached to it, it was never "a place to learn" to start with. Sure, you can go in and learn some lessons and walk away with some ideas about what not to wear, but some of the participants have lost sight of the reality that it's in fact a pretty mean thread that makes fun of other girls.

I mean, make use of it by all means, learn from other's mistakes and all that, but never forget that the constant ita/nitpick threads are why some comms look at you funny if you admit you go on cgl.

I wanted to hear cgl's opinion on what is harder to coord. I am a classic lolita considering buying a few sweet dresses, but from my observations, sweet just looks harder to coord. It's because classic tends to use muted colors and less prints so you can get away with using high quality but offbrand stuff a little more. Or, at least that's what I think.

I dabble in sweet and classic, but imho sweet is easier to coord with, but harder to coord well. It's easy to buy a dress with the matching set and call it a day, but it takes some serious coording skills to be able to make multiple outfits with the same dress.

>> No.8260281

>>8260219
That's like one of the very few sweet coords I like. It's such a nice dusty pink all over.

That being said sweet looks really easy to me. A lot of focus is on the dress because of the print or ruffle hime style, so I see a lot of girls who seemingly just have two blouses, pink and gold shoes, a gold star accessory, and a couple of bags.

>> No.8260284

>>8260219

Partly what >>8260226 said, but also that the current trend is to make sure everything matches, or at least doesn't visibly clash, which is why it's easier to get sets rather than order in ten things from different places and find they're all different shades when hey arrive. Even brands can throw you a curveball, some of AP's releases are a much bluer lavender and the rest are a pinker lavender, so you can't count on matching things from different releases either.

The other major problem is that it's very hard to find any non lolita bags or shoes in pastels, let alone anything that's in the right shade of pastel and cute enough, which is why using high end offbrand is difficult. It's much easier to find nice offbrand bags and shoes in black or brown that suit classic.

That said, though, there's a lot of sweet dresses that you can coord in classic lolita style and with classic lolita items, you just need to watch the palettes (some pastel dresses don't work that well with darker/jewel colours). Those might be a better choice to add to your existing wardrobe than starting up a seperate wardrobe for sweet lolita.

>> No.8260312

>>8260206
Most lolita dresses, particular patrtially shirred ones from AP and Meta, go up to really huge sizes and hang like a sack off the average Japanese girl. Even Maki and Asuka are drowning in their own dresses. If you don't fit these dresses you either have a disproportionally large bust or are fat.

>> No.8260328

>>8260219
IMO, it's easier to buy items to make new coords for classic items, but it's easier to make a single outfit with sweet items. Sweet is easy as fuck to coordinate, it's just that, as anons above have said, it's harder to vary multiple coords for the same dress other than by changing colours but keeping the same exact items (e.g. pink dress has sax in the print, could coord it with pink items or a mix of pink and sax items but you're probably still gonna be wearing tea parties and the same style of blouse and headpiece).

I do find the sweet items I own harder to make outfits I'm happy with, but that's partly because there's not much sweet in my wardrobe and partly because I feel more insecure about going out in sweet in general. If I make a meh but decent coord in classic or gothic I'll still feel fine going out in it, but if my sweet coords aren't perfect I feel insecure as fuck leaving the house in them because I know strangers will judge them more and I won't have the reassurance of thinking "I fucking love wearing this and I feel gorgeous in this outfit".

However BTSSB SF's reserve page has stated to order via email if you cannot reserve with them instore and links to the BTSSB guide to mail order.

I tried emailing Baby directly to clear this all up but they have yet to reply, and I sent the message 4 days ago. The reserve starts soon and I'm still really confused.

I'm worried that since they never responded to my inquiry, they wouldn't respond to an email reserve if I sent it. Or, if I did send the order I would be blacklisted.

A pink blouse might be cute too, I'm not sure if that would be too much pink though. I did feel like the blouse was too white, but the other two blouses I bought ended up being marked incorrectly about size so I ended up giving up and grabbing a bodyline blouse. Maybe I could dye it a very very soft pink and it'll look better. I can take the bow off, and just have the one big flower on my head, if it'll look better. I was uneasy about going with lace socks for the fear of the lace looking too cheap and clashing with the lace on the dress. (Though at last count I think there were like 7? different laces on this dress.) But I can buy some and try them out to see if it'll work better!

Oh wow. For the longest time I thought BABY didn't take PayPal because it always says this on their product pages:
>【Important information for overseas customers】
>Since it is treated as domestic online-shopping when the delivery address is in Japan, payment will be accepted only through the Japanese bank.
>The payment through PAYPAL cannot be accepted.
I don't have a credit card, so BABY was put on my I-guess-I'll-just-have-to-find-it-secondhand list. But now I finally realized this only refers to people using a Japanese shipping address/Tenso, and that I could order from them using PayPal as long as I just enter my own address.

has anyone thought about making pastebin to accompany the LG threads? just with general links about like, japanese SS, fyeahlolita newbie guides, the lolita comm spreadsheet, etc.
/ is there one already maybe we could start linking to? i was thinking maybe it might be helpful idk especially as a sort of FAQ type thing

>>8261615
honestly that's a really broad question and also something that ends up becoming very subjective depending on who you ask. in general though i would say try to disregard negative comments (you can't wear X) and like any skin color, just know what colors work well with your skin in general (like, in normal clothing). it's extremely helpful to know about your undertones. are you cool, warm, neutral? etc those will affect what looks better on you and what doesn't.
this color guide is one of those like, "are you a winter/summer" things and i've found it pretty helpful for trying to help myself decide what colors may potentially look nice on me. it says people with dark skin might have a harder time using it so sorry about that if this ends up not being helpful towards you. but anyways, yeah if you don't already know what it is, just look stuff up about finding your undertone and then just do searches based off that.

I like this visual chart, but the shades chosen to depict Soft Autumn and Warm Autumn are similar that I'm having a hard time differentiating them when they're not right next to each other. Was the A Nonny Mouse who put this together color blind or something? Many of these colors are clearly mislabeled. (Am I just not reading this graphic correctly?)

Generally speaking, does this summer/winter thing tend to be accurate in your experiences? As a supposed Soft Summer I haven't even seen many of my supposedly best shades offered in any clothing stores. (I'm also incredibly biased against most of them since I think they look very harsh and not pretty.) (Just noticed that the color names and the actual colors depicted don't match up for Soft Summer at least--which am I supposed to go by? The words not the colors?)

>>8261861
this makes sense, I might even have an old version of the color chart? seems to say it was made for /fa/, i don't like to go on there (lol) but maybe i or someone could see if there's a correctly labeled one. I'm a deep autumn and deep winter and haven't really noticed any issues with the colors on either of those since those were the only ones I looked at, though I definitely agree certain colors seem to be weirdly mislabeled (like, I thought pewter was more gray and the pewter here seems to be more green?)

I meant to link their reference page, but I forgot. If you type in the page listed on the graphic it will take you to a page with the correct colors listed and sourced (it looks like the colors are off on a couple of them for the Soft Summer, too--it's almost like anon tried to match them instead of just copying them and their monitor's settings were off). Looks like the left part of the chart is useful for figuring out which season you are and then the actual page is good for seeing which colors would compliment your coloring best.

These things never fucking work for me. Sometimes I try to work out my colours in reverse by looking for the colour palette that looks most like what I wear, but there's always colours in the palettes that look horrible on me IRL. Could be because I'm mixed race (I have a weird undertone that makes it hard for me to find foundation) but I'm still white as fuck with brown hair and blue eyes so you'd think it'd work. Using the colour of my veins to determine undertone I have veins in both colours...

I have noticed that there's a difference between stuff that looks good on me because it suits my skin tone (brown, dark red, burgundy, rusty orange, greener olives, basically autumn colours and jewel tones in general) and stuff that doesn't necessarily suit my skin tone but looks good because it brings out my eyes (bright blue, greys, bright dark blue). I look bad in pastels, especially cool-toned pastels, but I can get away with warm-toned pastel pink. I look bad in white, especially if it's got a high collar right near my face, so I try to buy oatmeal and cream colours instead...but if I get a tan in summer white looks fine, but it makes me look darker. I look pretty good in black (my sister looks to have a similar skin tone to me if you see us both in regular clothes, but if she wears black it makes her look really tan, which doesn't happen to me).

Other than white and pastels though, most colours don't actively look bad on me, which doesn't help in figuring this out. Like if I wear a dark red cableknit jumper the colour will really suit me, and if I wear a charcoal colourway of the same my eyes will look really strikingly blue/grey, whereas if I wear navy it won't have any of those beneficial effects but it also won't look awful or make me seem sallow or anything. Likewise, trying to determine undertone by which metal suits me, I prefer gold because it looks better with most of the colours I wear than silver, but silver still looks fine on my skin.

I would really suggest getting a good one. Some girls on CoF or in other places look like they don't have any petti even though they can have two, just because of the bad quality. A good petticoat is generally worth the money and doesn't deflate quickly. The ones from costume stores don't have the right shape most of the time, but if the poof, shape and quality are decent, it could still work, even though I guess you will need to layer several ones.

Good luck, anon--these shoes may lead you on a merry search if you need another size. (A discontinued ebay listing I found only offered whole sizes US 4-8.

If you were wondering how to up your search skills (and weren't really only looking for a place to buy them after coming to the same dead end I discovered): Be as specific as possible when searching for any article of clothing; I found what kind of shoes they were in the first two lines of a google image search. The second image got me the brand name (but following the link, the retailer stated they are unbranded shoes); the first image got me a possible model number following a tip from someone else on the net; a search on scarl shoes pulled up AliExpress as a retailer; another google image search on pink scarl shoes brought up the poshmark listing; an ebay search brought up the same seller, same shoes, second listing.

It's heavy, but 6kg just seems...excessive. Maybe weigh it yourself once it gets to you and make sure.

Nnnnnnnnnope. I bought something like 40 metres of heavy weight, garment-quality cotton a while back and that was only 4.8kg.

You should ask them to re-confirm.

It's heavier but no it's not *that* heavy.
Buy with buyee all the time and when I bought a meta op set (incl. headdress & petti) that was velveteen my package weighed 3,3kg.
But it also included an additional 2 handbags, a skirt & kc.
The international shipping fee was 7000 yen though. Buyee's fees and shipping are very expensive, I mainly use them because I'm lazy and it's so user friendly.
When I bought a meta velveteen jsk the weight was only 1,6kg and it also had a VM tippet in the parcel. The tippet weighs next to nothing though.
The weight for the OP in your pic doesn't seem right imo.
They do have different shipping methods now though, have you checked that yet? It's no longer just EMS. They also offer Air & SAL.

This is a thing? I'm not in the group but I am from TO

I'm working on some god awful ninja deck for modern, I was only any good at standard constructed/limited and don't know the modern meta very well.
