I'll start off-- I'm doing a Kiki's delivery service cosplay because I am a filthy casual.

I'm looking to do her outfit from the beginning of the game as well, but I'm not sure if I could possibly find the apron she wears, or if my only chance would be to make it myself.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried the dryer sheet method? Put a dryer sheet over the spot and iron it hot enough for the wonder under to melt again and the dryer sheet might pick up some off. Use unscented stuff if you don't want your fabric to end up smelling too strong. The method works especially well for getting that adhesive guck off the bottom of irons, actually.

A handful of streaks won't bleed like a a fully dyed sharpie wig. there's a lot of volume in that wig so you can probably add the streaks just fine with a sharpie and as long as they don't touch your skin much you should be fine. Just don't put it on the lower layers.

I need help finding the remaining pieces for my Okabe cosplay.

I am wondering where I can find:

1) a lab coat that is around the same length as Okabe's. Most sites only go to about 40" and with me being 5' 11", it isn't long enough. I found one on eBay I can get custom-made, but it is $120 after shipping and I don't think it's worth spending an extra $80 for a longer coat.

2) A belt like Okabe's. I am sure they are all over Amazon, I just don't know what the style of his belt is called.

I appreciate any responses and suggestions, thanks!

So I'm uploading the file directly as a .ai. When I upload it, it asks me how big I want the tile to be, and I said 7"x7".

The illustrator file is 300ppi but the plaid is the right size at 150dpi. Should I change my illustrator file to 150ppi? Will it make any difference? Since it's an illustrator file being directly uploaded I figure there's less of a chance of screwing up the resolution, but I'm still worried...

You might just want to get wooden doll hand and hold onto them inside your sleeve. Or doll legs are usually done with printed tights or rubber bands around the knees. You could do something similar with those rainbow loom bands but don't know what that would do for circulation. The snakes arent' a base idea but it might be tough finding osmething that fits your hands closely enough that oyu could still be dextrous. Look into some FMA Automail tutorials and you'll see that most of those have only the tops of the fingers covered with joints while wearing colored gloves to allow the underside to stay flexible.

Have you ever seen those one of those life sized dolls that move at Halloween stores? This method is very cheap and lets you bend them in any shape of your choosing anytime plus light weight as fuck

Without sleeves over the arms it'd be a bit harder to pass off, but:
>get wire thick enough to hold but thin enough to bend
>get long sheets of thick bendable foam, like the kind they use for packaging
>wrap foam around wire in cuts that sections out forearms and biceps
>foam can be held together by zip ties or even heavy duty glue in some cases
>stuff under the foam for shape
>buy a fake plastic hand to attach and bam
To attach just make a thin harness to wear underneath your clothes then attach the arms to it

Now if we're working without sleeves then I'm certain there are other tutorials for it or you could use the method above and build off it. If not it'll probably just look like crap, but I'd thought I'd share just in case this helps in some way

Accidentally posted this in the wrong thread, here goes. So I've found a number of tutorials online for Sakura's bird wand but they either come out looking a little shoddy or the supplies/equipment/experience are beyond my capabilities. My thoughts so far are to to attach a wire base to an oak dowel, cover in paper mache, then model magic or some other kind of clay, sand it smooth, gesso, and paint. Then, make the wings out of foam perhaps and attach to the head (gorilla glue?). This is my first prop so I'd love to get as much advice as possible.

Paper mache really isn't that great and a wire support will only go so far. Look into insulation foam carving. It cuts and sands easily into the shapes you want and can hold paint well if sealed properly.

This, but instead of a dryer sheet, use a few layers of newspaper.

We used them in art class when we made some kind of tapestry-like thing, where we used wax as a dye repellent and then ironed it out. Dryer sheets have shit on them that could fuck up whatever it's on if it gets too hot.

Maybe use one of those fairly thin rubber soles to the bottom of the tights and then put your inserts into your tights. I'd recommend starting with something else. I'd say keep it simple. Try making yourself some bracers/shin guards. Play around with the designs in paper. Make some drafts out of the thin colored foam if you want. The biggest issue is that so many people start with large intricate pieces of armor. Start small. Find an outfit that has a small amount of armor. Go from there. Hope this helps.

Babby's first belt here. I am attempting to make a 14th century girdle. I've never worked with leather and not sure what to use to emulate the metal. Foam, pvc, wood, worbla? What type of primer, paint and sealer would be best to make it all shiny metallic and golden looking? Also I want to keep it as light as possible, but that can be sacrificed for durability. Like anybody I don't want to spend a ton of money. However, since it's a small accessory I'm willing to stretch my budget for higher quality materials so long as they look better/last longer. >>8310396
Honestly, metal working is the best option. Your alternative is pretty much styrene, which is flexible but can be rather expensive, and takes a LOT of skill to manipulate at that level. Trust me, I've been using it for years.

My suggestion is to craft a single piece out of styrene, cast it in resin to make copies, perhaps with bronze powder mixed in to make it look authentic. Then paint and apply resin gems.

Either way it might cost you near $100. What's it for, anyways

>> No.8310521

>>8310427
Well, shit, I guess I was hoping for a simpler solution but it is what it is. I've never cast anything before so this will be quite the learning experience. A quick google search brought me to this for styrene: http://www.cosplaysupplies.com/store.php?p=STY-43330
With the bronze powder will that look shiny like metal when it's finished? Or will it need to be painted? Or I suppose there's always actual metal like you said... This is turning into quite a challenge very quickly.
Anyway, thank you for the advice!

>> No.8310533

Not OP but styrene and sintra are different. Sintra is the same material but it's "foamed" like styrofoam with a smooth coating over it. This person's sculpting isn't the best butit's a good breakdown of what sintra is like

http://threesmittenkittens.com/2014/08/23/basic-sintra-armor-tutorial/

Though for a beginner project and considering the size of those things you might want ot consider foamcore sheets for your build then giving it a "shell" of shiny posterboard for smooth painting.

I've consider using fabric and some girdles were made from embroidered silk, but the standard that I've found seems to be leather and metal. The design was made by Claire Hummel, who's a slave to historical accuracy, so I don't really feel like I'd be doing it justice if I just went with cloth. However, if I fuck everything up, then it's certainly a safe last resort.

You'd end up needing more than one colour, even if her face was pure white - you need to do highlights and shadows, and that requires mixing colours (though on your skin; not in their pots). Ben Nye has a white creme color that I like, so I'd recommend
>do a full coverage of white on your face and neck
>dab small dots of green paint (Snazz might work here, but I've only done this with BN and Mehron before) in your contour areas
>blend the green paint outwards
>(you can also get a grey paint for shadowing other areas like her nose and temples)

Good starting point for basic face paint with highlights and contours.

Go to a fabric store (if you have one nearby), look at all the fabrics and feel them and test for drape and photography (ie how much glare they give off when you take a flash photo). Short of a formal class, this is the best way to learn and familiarise yourself with a variety of fabrics.

I'm not familiar with the source material, so the white could be a twill or a heavy linen and the green also linen (but lighter weight) or a crepeback satin. Don't use broadcloth, except for patternmaking.

I think Cifera (pic related) did the armsocks method for her arms, then cut a hole for the extra limb and made a separate sleeve for that (you can see the band where it's attached to her forearm). So I'm working on some boots.... boots are very hard for me! I spent all day on this pattern, but I'm still not entirely sure about it. I want to get some feedback before I cut into my actual fabric. I'm thinking of abandoning the little heel piece, since the fabric doesn't have enough give to really become heel-shaped, even when I cut along the bias. I took a bit of creative liberty and added a third little triangle (even though I'm pretty sure the character I'm doing only has two on her boots) so that it would cover up a good portion of where the toe piece meets the rest of the boot.

I'm planning on cosplaying this gijinka of Killer Queen to match my boyfriend's Kira cosplay (I was gonna do Reimi but uh... That didn't go so well. Had trouble with the commissioner... Cosplay came out awful etc etc no refunds). For the gijinka I noticed her body seems to be a light skin color (or at least it looks like it, I might be color blind if not), unlike the actual character itself.
I don't think I'll be able to find a good enough body suit (not that I really want to with this outfit to be honest) and the amount of body I would have to cover with paint isn't the most... Appealing idea, so could I get away with not having to use body paint? I'm trying to follow this ref as best as I can (it's the only one) and since the skin is human enough for this ref at least, I think it'd be fine.
I'm also trying to decide on what color contacts to use (red, white, or pink).

How do I make these wings...?

I got gauge wire and formed it into the frame of the wings already, I just dont' know how to cover it. This is my first cosplay and I can't sew.

I tried connecting this wire together using air dry clay, but as I was covering the wire frame the joint started to crack up and break off. I scrapped that idea and I need a way to cover this frame in a material that will be sturdy and paintable..

What the heck do I do seagulls?!?!

I bought some iDye Poly to dye a wig, but I really only need to dye some parts of the wig for streaks. I was thinking I could carefully attempt to dunk just a few bits of the wig into the dye at a time, or try to do something like in this video after diluting the dye solution. Are any of these good ideas, or is there a better way to do this?

Just get weft and sew them in. Arda and Epic have a good selection of colors.

Can anyone help me find a material like pic related? I want an iridescent/holographic vinyl, preferably not a dance spandex with those little glitter dots (although it's similar I don't care for the way it looks very much). I've tried to find this and haven't yet...

Hm, You can do sectioned-off painting, like how highlights are done on actual hair, but I'd really get weft for a later convention.

tbh I'd make the gem out of clear plastic with some LED contraption inside (or glow paint or whatever, go nuts) and secure it to the staff on both ends using some clear fishing line

I'm looking to make a dreadnought from 40k and need help. I have no idea what I'm doing basically, and I also can't find a buzzbee punisher, which would be perfect for the minigun arm.

Building my lisia wig off a short with with an arda long weft pack. I was going to do more cartoony bangs off of a form but I started covering it and it just looks too fake. So now I'm thinking I can make clip on bangs with pieces of weft glued down to felt shapes and sewn to weft clips. Will this work or will I be sad?

I just bought this new sweater and found out it a had a hole after I took off the tag and wore it around.

Instead of asking my friends to fix it, I want to learn how to crochet so I can fix the problem in the future by myself.

I was wondering what kind of pattern I should use to fix this so I can get started and such.

I think you'd be fine if you had a Sheer Heart Attack prop and you worked on your poses. And maybe black cat eye contacts?

Im not very good at cosplaying so don't take this "help" so seriosly
But an idea would be to start with the "fun" parts
For example, wig, facepaint, eventually contacts.
Maybe buy a cheap pair of goggles on ebay and paint them
Buy elf ears and paint
Then you can start with the more difficult parts, when you're kinda in the spirit of the whole thing
I know this probably didn't help much but it might be a start :)
Good luck with your cosplay anon!

I have to disagree with you there.

ALWAYS start with the most difficult parts of any cosplay, unless you literally cant for some reason. If you figure our the hardest parts first, nothing can stop you from continuing and doing the more "fun" parts of the cosplay.

If you dont, you could eventually have a bunch of WIPs that never get done because you ran into obstacles that never got solved.
