Better quality. 10/10 for the cats. I have to admit the voice isn't too bad, but not good either. Its what I expected. I knew it wasn't going to be absolutely horrible, but Nigir's voice doesn't fit. No one's voice fits for any of the characters.

I have to say, I didn't even realize it was her voice. I dont know if they did something else to it, but hearing her talk in person versus whatever this is, I didn't even think it was her. Not saying its good or bad, but she tweaked it enough like normal voice actors. With actual practice she might be able to actually make her voice have more of a range. Her voice doesn't fit the characters. I can't think of any voice that would. I don't like dubs really. None of the voices in this sound good. Especially whoever is doing the little girl and the short haired chick at the beginning of the English episode when she gets to school and is lamenting about being late for the 13th time.

As someone who has done small roles with Funimation and is currently working on voice reels and taking classes to become more qualified this shit makes me equal parts jealous and furious. She didn't even have to try to get a major role, and all I've ever wanted was to earn a role worthy of being named somewhat prominently in the credits.

Exactly. I only watched people's feeds be filled with hate once it was announced, but it really isn't as bad as some other dubs out there. No where near as bad as everyone was expecting it to be. She did alter her voice a bit for the part which means she is trying and as someone not really used to doing this sort of thing and this being her first big role, I think she did okay enough. Its Sonico. Its strictly fan service. Inside and outside of the series. Id prefer this over someone trying to sound like a baby the whole time which I think people were hoping would be for her voice, but for fucks sake. Sonico is a grown ass woman. She isn't going to have a child sounding high school romance slice of life voice like most dubs have.

For American audiences yes she should. There is a difference between what weebs think someone should sound like versus Funimation trying to market this out to more than just people familiar with anime. Yes, it will be more popular amongst those who are already a part of it, but it reaches more people when you don't give a grown ass women the voice of a child. You need to learn about marketing. There is more to it besides "UGUMOEBLOBHIGHVOICE" bullshit that creepy ass men want to always have the female characters to sound like. It turns a lot of people away. Especially in American audiences. Thats why a lot of dubs are drastic sometimes in series and then people complain. Not just because of bad acting, but because its the company having this idea that it'll benefit them in the long run to have accurate voices for the characters age. America isn't used the the super sexualization of child voices like Japan is in a lot of their voice acting. If a character is young they will sound young. If they aren't, they won't.

Welcome to America. If you have a problem with marketing in this country feel free to buy a plane ticket to Japan where every grown ass woman will gladly sound like a 3 year old in any series you want.

From a marketing standpoint, yes. This is why you will see a lot of Japanese shows have high pitched actors for their series, but translated into dubs and you get voices that don't match at all what you expected because you're so used to a type of age voice for the character. This isn't uncommon. I don't know whats hard to understand. It has been this way for years and years. Go back as far as the 80s and you see stuff even like Speed Racer have this issue.

And anon is right, good dub groups will try to get voices appropriate for the characters not their ages it has very little to do with that. Look at something like FLCL, Naota's voice was lower pitched than his dad because he was a wet blanket and his dad's a pervy spaz.

This is exactly it. Redline had a great dub because they invested a lot of money in it. Disney's Ghibli dubs are supposed to be pretty good. For most other stuff they work with much smaller budgets and a very different level of talent.
