It's a challenge to make good wigs. The common options are to go with 1) full wigs + glue fibers to the tentacles, 2) wig for top half + blend into tentacles, or 3) ditch wig & make a wig out of fabric/vinyl/non-wig fibers
I honestly don't know which is best in this case since the "hair" looks nothing like hair and wearing something else in place of the wig might look too weird/fake. A girl I know is experimenting with a few different fabric materials for the wig.

One thing that I see pree'much everyone doing is putting heavy eyeliner around the eyes to emulate the squid's, but I think that doesn't look quite right.
I guess it just looks too flat for me or something. I think it would look a lot better if they used a small later mask attached to the face with spirit gun or w/e and the liner to fill in the gaps between the mask and the eyes, etc

Like I enjoy how many people on tumblr said they found awesome guns for their cosplays at walmart or target. I went to my walmart and we had only 4 squirt guns in total...and they were shit. Do it well, and maybe do the plastic wrap slim down the night before to help make you looks slimmer. Also while it' not gonna make you look bomb, if you start 2 to 4 weeks before the con of doing basic strength training stuff you can still rock it. Like 100 squats a day and 5 minutes of crunches and 3 minutes or arm stuff will help you look great.

Its too big to you but real human eyes arent golfball sized, imo other masks with the 'accurate' thickness looks way too small and reads weird from a distance

Their brows are high but are mostly covered by bangs anyway (which is an accurate choice imo). If a cosplayer were to do a mask like this and choose to cover the brows completely but had accurate everything else it woukd work well, its not like the lack of brows is going to make them unrecognizable.

I like the choices they made to make the masks suit their faces.

But seriously, sometimes seagulls have way to big an anger boner for 'accuracy' to a point where you'll never be satisfied seeing a toony character like these cosplayed by an actual human, you can't possibly get every detail 'right' without tweaking the design

The trick with stylised characters is also getting the proportions right. The hair tentacles end up looking too drawn out and limp on most people. It's the type of design you need to be able to work to your body (and will probably look weird in if you're not short and nicely proportioned).

Callie and Marie's tights color change according to the Splatfest colors. She was actually purple in EU today. So that's actually a valid color that Callie can be, although it's not her usual one (magenta). But I doubt these girls knew that because Marie's Splatfest colors for all three regions was teal and not her usual lime green. (Callie's JP and NA color was dark orange.)

Splatoon is one of those games where you have to take the controller and try it though. You can watch someone and be like "why don't they do this instead of what they're doing" but you wouldn't understand until you've actually played it yourself. It's just a different feeling you have towards a game/other once you've experienced it personally.

I dunno. I just think it's great when someone loves their experience, cosplays it, and gushes about it when conversation is started about their costume. That's probably just me putting myself in the creator's perspective. If you made a thing and found someone cosplaying it at a con, how disappointed would you be if you realized they didn't play/read your thing? Without them knowing YOU made the thing of course, because they'd just lie if they knew.

I don't think they know what the things on Callie and Marie's heads are either, since it looks like she went with a rectangular piece of... feathers? for Callie instead of a colored leaf and the dogbowl on Marie's head isn't hollow when it should be. All pieces were modeled by a member of our group, and then I 3D printed, so far six sets, cleaned, sanded, primed and painted all of them. Some parts are glued together, like the rings and a few other parts. Some are made to be removable. We got a large sheet of clear plastic, rolled it into tubes and use that for the tank part. The harness is just foam floor mats and some webbing straps, and that will likely change or be cleaned up or something soon.

I doubt adding in liquid in would add that much more weight to it. Especially if it were just to fill in an additional ring to something that is otherwise hollow. For a similar consistency to paint one would think corn syrup would be reasonably close.

Are you kidding? To fill the tank even half way would be 5.5 liters. Sure, you could carry that for a bit, for walking around with that much on your back all day would be tiring, and all that weight is being held up by one part of the tank. And the way the tank is built, it is not possible to easy open it to refill or empty the tank, and if we made it easier to do so, then it is more likely to come undone as we're running around, and again breaking and spilling everyone.

Also, it's meant to be ink and not paint.
