AC kind of fills a niche as the last general anime convention of the year for SoCal, so it has a pretty decent turn out.

The parties were good last year, and Anime California threw a really fun party at Anime Expo on Friday. This year's really going to be dependent on the hotel it's hosted at and whether they're cool with it or the organizers make some deal for parties.

I'm glad it's moving hotels. I heard there was a lot of friction between some attendees and normal hotel guests. I'll miss the poolside chess set, but it'll be good to be at a hotel that's dealt with cons in their hood before.
Also hoping that'll make room parties easier. Mine got shut down pretty quick last year, even with crowd control and keeping everyone at a dull roar.

AC is extremely underwhelming for a con compared to ALA, most likely because its towards the end of con season/at the very very beginning and that its relatively new. For most people, it will be the week before they get back to school or something (if you're on semester).

That being said, I dont mind AC as a con for people just to hang with their friends. I still think it needs some work in regards to what its actually trying to be. They brought in Maridah as the guest to talk about being a professional cosplayer which does make it interesting considering that most smaller cons end up bringing in people from industry to be their guests.

At any rate, b/c AC has yet to cement what its all about and b/c its relatively small and b/c the venue is a hotel lobby (literally), its worth going for a day but not for the entire weekend if you have a group of friends you want to go with.

Also, I'm not sure what they were thinking with the Sailor Moon cosplay group as guests as well. Sure it was a nice invite and a way to kick off the start of a highly anticipated anime reboot but to me, it just seemed like a celebration party more than some kind of big event at/provided by the con.

Since this con is coming up, it's about time I post something. It's going to be my birthday week, so I'm hoping they have good things in the dealers to blow money on.
I'm going to be in the main café this year with a bunch of homies, so that'll probably take the stress of this being my first con I'm working for out.
From what everyone last year said that it was fun and it seemed really ALA-like with hotel con vibe. I'm a fan of those cons, so it should be super chill as long as security doesn't get PMX status retarded. I heard the hotel last year sucked and that was the reaosn for the move.
I'm thinking if this is what it looks like, it's going to become the new ALA/PMX hotel drinking club and that's something I could get behind since those cons are dead to me now.
