Haven't seen one in a while, assume for a good reason, but hey. Starting off with people's opinions on this series? Coord/make-up self posts are cool, inspiration photos, drama, fav comm, favourite gyaru, blog recommends, concrit help, w/e, just would like to see what's happening if anything.

Is traditional gyaru still a thing? I wanted to get into the style a few years ago, but lately I feel like there's very little around. Are there any good blogs to follow or anything like that?

Tbh it is mostly dead. But if you don't encourage people to join then it'll stay that way.

Good idea to read through thegossipgyaru.tumblr.com because they give lots of advice and point out noob mistakes. Personally, I follow;

himeprincessnana

bd-gyaru (there was loads of shit with her a while back but she posts good photos/inspo)
queensayuri
medussabondage
gyarurebel
rokkugyaru
himehimestar
lovearimarie
felikawaiiko
rokkuqueen
rivriv-gyaru
drugsforaddicts
pinkiechan
galvip (their online issues also a good starting point)
motokomori
charlihoney
femininedreaming
thescrubdaddy
mayumibarbie
miyuyoshida
emixlea
thechroniclesofxinhui
ottokake
sarajsweetheart
ilovegyaru
mysticthorn

I love that some gaijins are at least trying to get gyaru bigger. Especially Xinhui, she has a galcir and everything and is encouraging people to follow. I think one good thing to do to get more gaijins in the gyaru trend is to be good and popular. People will follow as inspiration. I wish Saiharii was more active, she gets so much attention on her YT, FB and Tumblr. But this shitty comm trashed her to shit so I doubt she even cares that it's dead over in the gaijin world.

I love her make-up and style - both of them actually, but there are so many good gals who just...don't post anything. Ever. And then there are shitty gals who spam everything, usually have a bad attitude, and give out a negative idea of the fashion, and it's too small a community to let that be the most common thing.

People talk shit or at least used to about Heather but at least her videos are doing something and getting stuff out there.

I want to get in tho this style but I have no idea where to start.
I'm into Rokku/Goshikku, Agejo and Himekaji.

My problems:
I have shitty short hair, long forehead (can't do a fringe because, again, shitty balding hair).
Hooded eyes, I still haven't managed to put on lashes. They always end up looking strange and touching my brows, (I guess they're too long if you have hooded eyes?).
I have cellulite event though I'm thin, so I can't go bare legged (would those fake garter tights work?)

Wigs or hairpieces. Lockshop, Prisila, or commission a sujimori style from a cosplay wig commissioner.

I can't really help with the lashes, but are you buying gyaru lashes specifically? Diamond Lash, Eyemazing etc. I can't actually imagine them being so long on anyone. But if they are, sorry anon, keep practicing?

Skin coloured tights, or any tights you feel would match the coord? Bare legs/thigh highs or whatever aren't necessarily gyaru. You can get jeans and whatnot.

Also, gyaru I feel has gotten a lot more plus-size friendly so no-one will judge for cellulite - well, some people will, but they'll find reasons to bitch anyway. Nude tights will help.

Start with the make-up. Buy at least one set of actual gyaru-recommended lashes and keep practicing until you've got the eye make down pat, then move onto contouring and do the same. They're the most important things.

I bought some cheap lashes from eBay to practice. I was wondering if the result would be better with "Gal recommended" lashes, but I didn't want to spend a bunch at first for practice, you know? I did try cutting them in half and put them just in my eye corners and it didn't look half-bad. I'll try to get some legit ones and see if the result is different.

Thanks for the rest of the tips, too!

That might be the issue...I know they're expensive but gyaru is a pretty expensive fashion unfortunately. Hey gals, what are your favorite brands for eyelashes? Are Diamond Lash and Dolly Wink worth the money?
And what kind of shape should I be looking for in eyelashes?

For shape, the spikier the better for me, big, bold, spiky as opposed to kind of tapered and winged? Your make-up looks cute but I can't tell if you're wearing lower lashes? I'd say add a point in the inner corner, more of a "droop" and a wing. Looking good though!

I've recently got interested in gyaru (especially kurogyaru and similar) but I'm having trouble with the makeup, specifically lower lashes and contouring. I use powder contour and it never feels like it shows much. I also have a pretty prominent nose (high bridge, but wide) and if I do the "normal" gyaru nose contouring it just looks ridiculous, any tips? And with the lower lashes, my under eyes are very wrinkly and I have dry skin so the makeup always ends up smudging... am I doing something wrong? Is it ok to use lower lashes without eyeliner?

Japanese gyaru do heavy contour because they have round moonfaces, tiny slant eyes, and flat noses. Depends how much you want to fit into Japanese brands. If you aren't petite and small of frame anyway your shoulders, ribcage or hip width may well count you out anyway - an average Japanese M size is like 83cm bust/65cm waist/85-90cm hip if you're lucky which depending on the brand is about a UK/AU 6-8 or US 2-4. In terms of looking good in it that's probably more about proportions than a particular weight, gyaru tends to show a lot of the shape of the leg (whether it's with tight fitting jeans, short skirts or tights) so in my opinion girls with more stick-like/slender legs look better than people who have thighs (either muscle or fat). You can probably get away with loose top/tight bottoms if you're more top heavy or still have a bit of a belly, but I've not seen many successful gyaru outfits that work the other way around.

>> No.8493139

Some actually give good health advice (stuff like exercise or count your calories with tips) but in all honestly I sometimes find some girls to simply be too thin. And if they then talk about how they lost even more or how they have fat thighs I just.. it makes me feel like I'm looking at some bad thinspo blog.

Those are all very different substyles, so you'd be investing in a decent amount of different hairpieces and wigs in the long run. For a start, though, I think that wig would be good for both kogal and himekaji as is. That sahe of brown isn't really seen in many rokku or goshikku coords, since those tend to lean more towards an unnatural dyed/bleached look with ashy tones. Maybe if you teased it, though, it could work as well!

Thanks! I think I'm getting that one for a start since it's more "basic" and realistic so I can wear it out casually, and I'll probably invest in a unnaturally colored wig for something different.

I want to do gyaru more often but I'm scared of it because everyone looks so perfect with their makeup and then there's me with a slight double chin and ugly caucasian hooded/tapered eyelids.
I look so gross from the side and any slight downward turn of my face makes me look at least 30 pounds over weight. I just want a prominent jawline. Please tell me I'm not alone with this problem. I think I have a massive double chin most of the time, especially when I smile, but no-one else notices it. You can contour your jawline, too. Yeah, it's just Lizzie and her friends, not 'official' gal meets, unfortunately. I'd love to hang out with them because they're all a lot of fun at the few meets there have been since I got into gal, but I think a lot of the really good UK gals lost interest in hosting meets because most of the 'gals' in the UK are just paying lip service and never actually make an effort or come to anything. It's sad. And I'm probably not helping by posting this here, but I'm just sharing a feel I guess. Hello fellow UK gal! I know the feeling. It's a pity because I feel like we have some really good gals and could make a respectable con if people like...did shit together. There was that beach meet that got cancelled, and then a mention of a kogal one that died off, and gyaru representation at HJ was non-existent bar a few. I tried to organise a meet myself once, a bunch of newbies put their names down and literally nobody turned up, so I completely understand why the gals who actually make an effort don't want to bother with the mass of plebs. I just think it's a shitty situation for any gals who want to make an effort but don't already have close friends in the comm. Whereabouts in the country are you? Probably not anywhere near me, but on the off chance that you are, I'd like to make a friend with similar feelings about these things.

Warning, I am a newbie but I have been to meets - I would love to go to more! I'm just outside London so I could go to London meets but anywhere really depending on the amount of warning. I know what you mean - I think some of the older/better gals are already very close and so when they meet up it's a friends thing, and so don't need to have meets for a community that doesn't really try hard. On the other hand as you said for those who want to try hard, they don't want to invade on those friendships. I think also there's like a case of - no meets - gals leave because nothing to do in the comm - meets don't happen because no-one comes kind of circle. Whereabouts are you?

>> No.8512055

I once made a really good friend just by this kind of thing on /cgl/, haha, so I'm kind of eternally optimistic about the friendship potential of random similarly dissatisfied anons now.

And yes, I think you're totally right about that cycle. People don't have much motivation to participate in the comm when there's nothing to actually *go* to, I mean look at the lolita comm, how many lone lolitas are active and notable online? People are much more likely to put effort into an online presence when there's a social aspect.

>> No.8512081

>>8512074
From what I've seen, lolita comms work well by being smaller/more regional and being very regular about their meets. The thing about gal these days is that there's so few of us, you sort of get one online comm that's very thinly spread, rather than a bunch of more tightly-knit local comms. I've seen regional gal comms in other countries that work really well, they normally ended up forming circles and things that blog regularly and do a good job in promoting the style. The UK's just in that awkward mid-range where most major cities are theoretically accessible within a few hours so you don't get regional comms, but practically, nobody can be arsed to come to a meet in London if they live in Newcastle and vice vera.
