Well, I'd rather not fully explain because I don't want it to ID me. I'll say that it was my mistake initially, but I messaged the buyer and apologized and explained what happened. She was very kind and understanding, but had already left negative feedback. I don't even know if she'd be willing to edit it if it was editable, but I guess I will message her after the whole transaction is completed and ask if she would be willing, then talk to a mod.
Thank you.

She doesn't sound like a scammer. The blogger sounds melodramatic and obviously was trying to get some money back after some buyer's remorse regarding the price or the dress not living up to her expectations.

The seller didn't say anything about the condition of the dress and she didn't list the dress as "like new" she listed it as "good" and says "used/good condition" which is subjective. The seller was shitty for saying the girl must have damaged it herself though.

After actually reading the full tumblr post I sort of agree. It seems like both buyer and seller were in the wrong, but in the end the girl did receive the dress that she paid for, especially if it said used/good condition and not like new.

Like, I get not liking being scalped, but if she was that tight on money (as her tumblr seems to imply overall) she shouldn't have thrown down that huge amount of money to begin with. Hell, when I received a dress with damage I was only offered a $20 refund even though I paid nearly $200, but I took what little I could get back rather than fighting it. Even if I got back nothing, I would have understood that I paid what I paid and accepted it and/or resold.

To me, she's almost looking like the shady one here, demanding a partial refund of $500. That's a huge amount you're asking for back, even if you got scalped. Plus she sounded like she intended to keep the dress AND her wanted partial refund.

And tbh, disagreements that lead to "callout" posts like this fucking terrify me.

I agree with the other anons, the seller should have been more careful but she never listed it as pristine or without wear.
"Used/good condition" is an accurate statement for that dress, there were no tears or serious damage, only *small/light* stains which the buyer didn't even TRY to remove.
The fact that the buyer didn't even try to mend the stains herself or professionally before demanding a refund, how she expressed that the cost of the dress may be too much and how she had to borrow money to pay for it, and lastly how she didn't even specify how much of a partial refund she wanted implies that she is the one that is the scammer here, sorry.
Yes, it is understandable to be disappointed that your dream dress arrived not exactly as expected,
but if it is truly your holy grail, I personally would be so fucking happy to finally have it that I wouldn't even care about small shit like that.

why did she even bother opening a Paypal claim? She will definitely lose
The seller sent the dress with tracking and the buyer received it, and that's all Paypal needs to know. They won't give her shit except pity asspats

>> No.8498150

Good lord that post was tl;dr. I'm also chiming in to say the buyer is the one who comes out looking like the scammer. I doubt she damaged the dress herself, but the auction quite clearly says "good" condition, which is definitely not "like new" - and all those stains are tiny as hell and not noticeable in the least unless you are shoving your face against the dress.

It seriously does sound like buyer's remorse. And she's trying to drag the seller down for it. That's quite pathetic.

>> No.8498152

I do think that the seller should've looked at it more carefully before sending it out and scalping the shit out of it, but I'm just wondering, in this case, if the stains were already there is she still responsible for them? it sucks that there's stains on it but it doesn't look *that* bad, looks like they'd be able to come out in a wash or with a tide stick. tiny stains warrant a partial refund, sure, but not you're whole $500 back. If this were a rare dress or something I could understand wanting to jump the gun and overpay but I've certainly seen this dress for sale before and it sounds like she never even made a WTB post for it?

her deleting it makes it seem like she knows her post was a bit overreactive...I don't really understand what the need to make a "call out post" was for if she just left negative feedback...the seller was a bit of a ditz too but I wouldn't say she did something so awful it warranted a community warning about her...

I get the same thing, although I didn't grow up poor, just frugal. When I see something I really want I first get excited and get ready to buy it, then just before clicking I feel this pang of guilt and try to talk myself out of buying it because I don't really NEED it, right? Sometimes the guilt wins out and I either forget about it or regret not buying it when I see the same item pop up later being worn by someone. Sometimes my want wins out and I do buy it, then feel this really strong mixture of excitement and guilt which slowly turns into pure excitement and then later pure guilt when the package is about to arrive and customs got their hands on it. Then when it arrives it's pure excitement again.
Online shopping is such an emotional rollercoaster for me.

Exactly. I could understand if maybe she received a dress in tatters and the seller just disappeared and ran off with her money but nothing that bad happened. Seller scalped her and didn't accurately check for flaws. That's annoying, but definitely did warrant this much of an overreaction. Negative feedback and asking for a partial refund for dry cleaning is pretty appropriate.

Also, I understand dream dresses are only worth what you are willing to pay for it, but the buyer definitely jumped the gun way too soon on this. Some dresses just aren't worth it.

Man, thank goodness for 4chin. I just got a job at a casino and I'm not allowed to say anything about it, no matter how harmless.

Lolita related: I had a dumb train of thought about how adorable it'd be to have a casino with kawaii characters and brand sponsored slot machines (if DnD did it, why not Baby?). Casinos can be incredibly boring and a lot of their machines are incredibly generic, sexist, and racist. I'd love to see spinning Usakumya heads instead.

I'm kind of curious if anyone went to a casino while in lolita. I'm sure it'll grant the same kind of reaction upon being carded at the bar. Or maybe people think they're some high roller?

I'm imagining the same clientele of all casinos in your casino, and the juxtaposition is really just making it worse.
Grannies with tobacco lungs looking haggard, camping the rilakkuma machines, playing their pennies with stony patient despair. Other people losing everything on the Japanese Idol tables, the artificial taste in the air, the bright lights and cute noises making a din.

At least you don't have to work in one. It is pretty sad but fortunately, the environment I work in isn't as bad. I'm surprised that other places still do this, but mine doesn't allow smoking indoors; the set up is funny in that I feel like I'm in a time capsule from the 90s (minus the new TV screens and a few updated games).

It's a good thing I hate gambling, machines are boring, I don't get card games, and have little luck, or else I'd end up being like those poor old people whose (grand) kids don't even call. They like to chat attendants and cocktail waitresses up because no one else talks to them. I haven't met too many regulars, but I did see my gynecologist for the first time (that was unreal). Some are good tippers, some don't tip at all (even if they tend to be big winners).

I'm sorry for making you feel bad. I was just imagining an adorably kawaii casino full of frilly dressed people, playing on cute machines or with pretty cards (Alice in Wonderland/Imai Kira art - does she make playing cards?), winning and losing money for brand -which on some nights would be raffled off - like the cars and vacation packages at work

It's enough to pay off my student loans in 3 years and have a little left over for brand. And yes, I'm at a legit place - I've seen fancier ones, but it's legit. The state's gaming board is very strict and everyone has to have a license to work there, even if you're in the restaurant or hotel.

I was originally going into event planning with the hotel convention center (owned by the casino), but that position was filled by someone in-house, and I figured that I was going to get my foot in the door somehow. It's not what I want to do, but it's interesting enough and I'm glad I didn't get a job at the engineering firm (for corporate event planning) since they're notorious for laying people off (moving a lot of jobs overseas) and young people are usually hired as independent contractors (and usually as data entry people).

Posting from the old thread:

Has anybody experienced ordering a new dress/skirt directly from a brand, and upon arrival there were quality issues that were immediately noticeable? How did you react? Did you alert the brand, or vent online, or both?

I just got a skirt from a brand, and while at first glance it's beautiful, upon closer inspection I noticed some wonky sewing. There is uneven stitching around the waist. In another spot, at what I assume had been an attempt at back-stitching, the stitched line is in the form of a long "Z". In the same area I found two loose threads.

It's not noticeable at all unless you look very closely. But it's a bit disappointing for me because I have never experienced any quality issues with this brand until now. (Every item I've bought from them has never left my closet. They're that good... generally, at least.)

I feel that either it was a sample skirt and sold to me by mistake, OR a staff person intentionally put it in for a foreign order thinking that a customer abroad would either not notice or not bother to complain about these quality issues.

The brand in question is NOT Baby, so don't think I'd be blacklisted. But at the same time, would it be even worth it to contact them about it? I'd be OK with even a 15% refund.

For the record, I know some Japanese due to being raised bilingual, I'm absolutely terrified of committing a cultural faux pas as I haven't lived in Japan for most of my life.

>> No.8500187

>>8500165
I doubt 'wonky sewing' will pass muster as a viable complaint. Loose threads in a dress is a pretty common issue as well. Brands tend to only acknowledge things like rips or stains and even then your chances of getting any refund is 50/50 (there was a case pretty recently of a girl recieving Milky Cross ripped on the shoulder right out of the box, but AP Japan claimed it would be IMPOSSIBLE for a damaged item to pass their quality check. AP SF felt bad for her and offered her a $20 gift card but that was it)

I've heard of people taking the dresses to seamstresses and getting the elastic replaced. Unfortunately the rubber in elastic gets dry and brittle over time.

Actually it's common among normal clothing items that were left unused in the closet for a long time, to have their elastic snap immediately upon the first wear, all because the rubber had become old.

somewhat rolling off that whiny buyer topic.
not to long ago I recently purchased my dream dress
second hand, and somewhat same situation as story posted above.
I just did not pay bricks.
It was pretty understood that the dress I was getting was well worn and some pilling.
Dress arrived and I was expecting 'good/okay condition',
'Some pilling' did not quite accurately describe the mass amounts all over the dress, plus it smelled awful, like sweat and I was just more disgusted over the awful construction.
I did bring all these to the sellers attention and she replied right away, plus offered cleaning covering costs, but as soon as I started asking more questions, she dropped off the face of the earth.
Never got my cleaning costs covered either.

I am just more frustrated about the amount of time and effort I've had to put into cleaning and attempting to fix this dress up.
anyway long story short, I am sure some of you have had similar experiences, have you ever considered trying to find the same item again but in better condition?

I did. I bought a black Meta dress from yja (so no refunds lol) that was pretty high on my wishlist. It was more significantly worn than I thought it would be, and the threads were getting a little "fuzzy" (like, not exactly pilling, but sort of micro-pilling, if that makes sense? It's nothing you'd see even from up close, but if you put a macro camera to the dress you'd see it.

I later tracked down the exact same dress (same colourway), but different cut and bought it. This time the dress was much newer and better looking.

The downside was that I worried about how much wear and tear the second dress can take before it also starts showing micro pills like the first dress. So now I wear the first dress for daily lolita/casual lolita, and I hoard the second one in its near-new condition so that I can have a pretty print to look at. Some day I may be persuaded to sell off one or the other, I guess.

The funny thing is that both of them are filler dresses, the cut my heart really lusted after was going for over retail at that time. And now that I have two dresses I'm not entirely sure I'm satisfied, but the burning need to have the version I originally wanted has died down considerably. I don't want to pay $400 for a dream dress to have it arrive worn-out and tired-looking, and now I worry that any version of that print might look fuzzy, so I'm disinclined to go looking for the version I originally wanted.

Oh, sorry, I don't think I explained my problem well enough. D:
I'm talking about the dress lining ripping when the dress isn't even being maxed out. Most of my AP won't rip at all, even if you max the measurements to the very last cm it'd take (I'm assuming anyway), but some will just rip even if you don't max the measurements.

For some reason finding a picture of dress lining is impossible via Google, but I mean the lining of the dress made out of the shiny material.

>> No.8500977

>>8500938

AP sews the lining and the outer fabric together into channels, the shirring is inserted into each channel to create the shirred panel. So if you want to remove the lining from the outer fabric, you'll have to unstitch every line of sewing above and below every line of elastic -- not an easy mod.... and it's also non reversible and will pretty much destroy all resale value because you'll basically have a bunch of elastic no longer attached to the dress.

A better idea might be to take a ruler, measure the shirring panel at the top and the waist unstretched, then stretch the elastic as far as it will go while holding it against the ruler. Note the difference in measurements, this should tell you how much the dress will *really* stretch, lining and all, without trying on the dress. Then you can check it against your body measurements and decide if you want to risk trying on the dress, send it to a tailor's, or sell it on.

I finally decided I want to get the sheherazade print, of course it was only a few days after the release. I've only ordered from Baby SF before, but the reservations for the jsk in red is sold out. The japanese reservations were a few days ago, but the instructions on the baby nyc page are really confusing to me.
Dumb question: when the print actually releases, will they have all of the colorways and cuts stocked again? Or is it possible they still have the japanese/nyc reservation open with the cut and color I want?

Reserving from Baby nyc isn't really hard. Just email them to see if they're able to reserve it for you, they'll put in the request and get back to you as soon as they know if they can. So I have a question. If I were to buy some lolita skirts and wear them with non lolita outfits (not in a "this is my unique style!!!" snowflake way, just in a regular outfit), how much criticism would I be dealing with? Obviously I know better than to call it a lolita coord or tag it with any lolita terms other than maybe brand name. I've already had one person try to fight with me because a lot of my skirts are retro/vintage and have a low-fluff petti underneath.

Gulls, I was wondering about your experiences with trading/swapping, specifically for brand prints and/or popular prints (like AP and Baby).

>Can you often find trades you want?
>How long did it take you to find a trade?
>How did it go? Smoothly or?
>Did you trade physically or through the mail and how were any differences (if through mail?)
>How did you get the other party interested in the trade, or how did they get you interested?
>Was it worth it in the long run?
>Have you ever received a dress with more damages than you initially thought it had?

I'm a little nervous getting into trading especially with popular burando prints and sending things through the mail. A swap meet would be ideal, but the local comm is tiny and last swap meet had absolutely nothing from my wishlist (which is huge). I thought of going to the Otakon swap meet next year if there is one, but that's a whole year from now and I have no idea how it may go, so... yeah, tell me your experiences?

So the sugar hearts drama continues and Cadney once again felt the need to publicly weigh in. Does she know OP personally or something? Or is she just desperate for attention?

Would this ever work into a lolita coord?
I have a growing need...

>>8502883
Seems legit tbh. People shouldn't be discounted as trolls so easily, it is very discouraging.

>> No.8503005

So dumb question, but an anon before asked about buying two dresses to alter them together - would this also work for an OP? I'm desperate for Milky Cross, but there's no way I'll fit an OP.

if you find a good seamstress, sure, but I think wasn't that anon asking about sewing two totally different colors together? whatever you do just don't do that.

wow...I kind of want this too, though I just don't know what the hell I would ever wear it with or on what occasion.

Lief released that Angel Hair Pasta (I think that's what they called it?) print recently, perhaps you can try to get your hands on that.

The easiest and most non-intrusive thing to do is to send a private message along the lines of "you sound down. If you need to talk, I'm here. Hope you feel better soon" or similar.

No matter the problem, it seems to cheer most people up to know that there are people out there who care about them. After that, she's free to decide if she wants to pursue friendship with you, you at least put the ball in her court so she knows the option is there. Some people do use their tumblr the same way anons use the feels thread to vent their feelings, maybe she's only lonely at the moment because her room mates are out of town or something, so don't take it personally and don't push it íf nothing much comes of it.

>>8502854
I wouldn't send her generic "hope you feel better soon" messages like a worried stranger. Yeah it's better than nothing but it's not exactly gonna make her less lonely. Just try to actually befriend her if you're interested in that. Do shit together if you can.

imo, this has a pretty low success rate. It's rare to find someone who wants to get rid of the exact cut you're after, and wants the exact cut you've just bought, enough to go to the trouble of a trade, but not enough to have hunted down the versions they wanted by themselves and bought them off the same place you did.

OP is better off posting a WTB straight up.

They only met once and exchanged tumblrs, we're not really sure if lonely tumblr anon even remembers our friendly anon. They *are* practically strangers. Judging from friendly anon's worries, I think she doesn't want to be too direct or too pushy, in view of that.

I did figure friendly anon would put her own spin on things or try to remind lonely tumblr anon who she is if needed, I just typed up a generic message because I don't know either of them.

I put my suburb and then when I moved house to an apartment I had my apartment numbers in Address 1 and street in Address 2.

However, when you do your first order they'll normally confirm if you want it sent to the listed address or the paypal address.

So put in your suburb, do your order and when it's time to post they'll ask about address

Think about your rules/terms of sale. Will you allow payment plans? Will you allow holds? Under what circumstances? 2 week only, 3 week only? Will you want a nonrefundable 20% deposit? Don't forget to look at feedback. Also decide if you want to ship internationally or not. (sometimes it can be more of a hassle than it's worth) If an item you're selling has damage, either fix it before listing, or take photos of the damage and speak about it in the description. As a buyer, one of the most annoying things is receiving a dress with damage or stains that weren't mentioned at all. Also, taking the measurements off lolibrary is fine but don't be afraid to go in with a tape measure to confirm these measurements yourself; sometimes I have a dress that goes up to x cm but I mention that it would be comfortable at a certain measurement under, or that the dress stretches past the listed measurements.

Make sure you take good pictures with some sort of proof that it's your item - usually I have a sticky note with my FB name and/or the names of my other sales/feedback accounts (like on LJ and LM).

Try not to make too many separate sales posts. If you list it on lacemarket, don't make a separate sales post on FB - you can make a post, but link to the LM listing. I mention this because sometimes sellers crosspost but make things separate so it's like...someone may buy an item privately on facebook while the lacemarket listing stays up - sometimes people may buy the listing and then you have to message them saying it's already sold - this can end up with you getting negative feedback and an understandably annoyed potential buyer.

seeing >>8504067 reminded me....only ever ship to the address that is on the paypal account. before shipment, confirm that the address on the account is the correct one. if they message you at any point saying to ship somewhere else for whatever reason, refund their money, ask them to change the address on their account, and then re-invoice them. NEVER ship to an address not listed by paypal, because you lose seller protection - this is also how some people try to scam sellers.

I've never had that problem, but when I started selling I def didn't know about that at all.

I think plenty of things are common sense (try to think about what you, as a buyer, would want to see). If you are unsure about something it's always best to ask someone.

With the amount of fabric involved, I have found the tulle deflation hasn't been an issue yet. I have only had it since the start of April though. Organza would be ok but voile is rubbish for volume, it's more like...underskirts

>> No.8507182

>>8505754
hmm, okay. perhaps I'll go for it then. I bought a petticoat from cc made from tulle but it really settles into itself, it's lost a lot of volume but I've only worn it 3 times, which is why I was worried about getting another tulle petticoat (not sure if that's normal for all tulle or what)
