You're going to want to balance out the reds and yellows. You've got them in the centre of your coord but not at the bottom or top. Maybe swap out the shoe laces for something coloured, or possibly different socks that can bring in those colours. Add in some ribbons to your hat, maybe you can add an ace of hearts too to tie it in more and have a pop of red.

I think you need more clashing patterns, it's falling a little flat at the moment, it needs to be more..jazzy. Some embellishments and a contrasting ribbon on the hat would be good too.

The socks seem way too pain, I'd recommend something in red and gold. A rosette of some kind on the blouse would be good too.

We're having a meet in about a month and I need some advice regarding shoes that can be ordered quickly (such as Bodyline). I'm a size 255 and at the moment it seems my best choice is s507 is sax but I'm not very sure about it.

I'm also debating which shawl/bolero to use.

Rundown of the coord so far:
JSK Bodyline L141
Bag IW Marine World tote
Socks Metamorphose Swan Lake
Necklace by TrollWorx Etsy

I'm looking locally for a straw hat I can decorate with blue&yellow roses but in case I don't find one I'll just braid them into my hair.

>>8560831
The dress is navy right? It looks black on my screen. Anyway, top OTKs are my favourite out of the three. I don't like the idea of throwing white into the mix. Have you considered a gold blouse instead of navy (so it's not navy overload)?? You could also pair this with the golden milk heart bag.

>>8561299
the plain bolero should work if you want to accentuate the necklace, and i think white or cream shoes would work although make sure there is enough contrast between the socks and the shoes if you choose cream as otherwise your whites will look dirty and mismatched.
With the socks it might be a little too much of the same/similar print, instead maybe go for plain otks or lace tights and add some shoe clips if you can find them, that way it's still nice and balanced but it'll break it up and add a little more interest.

I'm not sure if its just the photograph but it looks like your bag is a
warm brown, whereas the rest is cool so it probabbly wont work without clashing horribly.
If it is indeed just the photo, different sades of brown can work, so maybe go for a
bolero/jacket or headwear in a similar shade or darker than the bag to help tie it in nicely.
You could get some darker brown ribbon to lace up your shoes too if you want to go the extra mile,

go easy on the sailor motifs etc and try a more elegant Victorian sailor style and keep it simple, I pretty much second >>8561584 except for the anchor motifs bit.

A more traditional sailor hat like pic related could be an interesting and sightly refreshing take on things too, especially when paired with cute dolly type hair.

A quality straw boater hat with a bold black ribbon would also look good.

If you really wanted to go for a Victorian look, black Edwardian/Victorian ankle or calf boots, with perhaps lower contrast stripe socks (say, black and dusky grey with thinner stripes) would look amazing imho and isn't something I've really seen before.

This is a last minute coord for this weekend so it's nothing to amazing, but I'd like some advice on making it at least a little more interesting. Sorry I didn't lay things out. I took this last night before I started packing. The lighting is weird in my room so that's Meta's Rose Letter if it's hard to tell. The shirt I'm wearing has a removable tie so I was going to swap out the black, but I'm not sure if I should go for a dark brown or something beige. The woman at the store suggested pale pink? Also, I'm wondering what color world be best for my stockings. My shoes will be dark brown so would it be too much for dark brown or skin tone stockings or should I go for a light color like ivory or maybe the pink can be down here?

I liked your previous choice of bag. I think the bag and shoes are too cutesy for the elegance of the rest of the outfit and I also think your should restrict the pink too small pops of colour as looking at the dress vs your accessories, none of the pinks really match. This isn't an issue with small pops of colour in fairly close shades but with something like shoes or a bag it's really obvious and quite jarring. Try looking for white bridal boots or victorian style lace up boots for the same elegance with a lower heel.

imo, this does kind of look heavy handed. I think I'd have gone with white x blue with red accents instead of straight up blue x red, as the colour combination is gentler. I'd try replacing the cardigan with a shorter white bolero (or go with a white blouse under the jsk), with red jewellery as an accent instead of a big block of heavy red. If it still looks too heavy, try replacing eiher the bag or the beret with white or sax blue as well.

>> No.8565988

>>8565869

99% of the time any jsk can always be matched with either a white or ivory blouse and legwear, then you only have to look for bag, shoes and hairpiece that matches the dress.

Choose ivory or white either according to your skintone, or according to what lace is on the dress. Legwear does not need to be printed, lace tights or those clear patterned OTKs baby keeps selling out of will also suit. In this case, keep the collar mature, avoid huge peter pan collars, and choose a nice lolita blouse -- it's an underbust, so a lot of the blouse will be on display, this isn't the time to look for a loliable blouse.

For hairpiece, bag and shoes, in general you can go with either taking something from the dress print, or choosing something that goes well with it. For example you could do red and pink roses as headwear since that's the main part of the print, and then go with brown shoes and brown bag, since brown and pink go well together.

I'm not sure that dress is very witchy atv all and you may struggle reconciling the carousel horses in the print to a witch theme..any plain black dress would probably be better. I agree about replacing the blouse. I would actually try not to go with anything too frilly on the bust itself, and I suggest a square neckline - both look better on girls with larger busts. Something like pic related.

Definitely trade in the shoes. Maybe in the same blue you're wearing in the skirt.

I also like the idea of the flower hair accessory, ditch the fingerless gloves (those are generally a no-no), and instead get wristcuffs or bracelets. I can't really tell what's going on with your tights/socks?

There's a whole lot you could do here anon, it just depends on where you want to go with it. Brown, beige, pink, offwhite, leaf green, florals, ribbons, deer, birds - pick a couple of your favorite things about the dress, then coord around them. Or use what you already have and go from there. I see this being used in a toned-down sweet, springtime, nature fairy princess coord, but if you want help you need to provide SOME kind of starting point to make a coord from besides the dress itself.

>> No.8571206

If you want to show off that neckline, then the easiest and most obvious answer is the high collar blouse or a turtleneck.

But you can also try :
- wide neckline blouse with ruffles, pull the ruffles out from under the jsk and lay them on top of the jsk collar
- low neckline blouse that sits just under the jsk neckline, so when you wear them both you only see the sleeves of the blouse
- large peter pan collar with pussy bow, the large bow will break up the jsk collar so it doesn't clash with the peter pan collar.

I'm a size 9 and have fat rugbyman calves, so certain styles shown in >>8571376 won't really work for me (like the mid-calf boots I'm afraid wouldn't look nice?). I also specifically wanted something knee-high to keep my legs warmer.

Any boots that would look more ouji-ish? I kind of want a more masculine boot. Nothing wrong with some of the boots in >>8571376 but again I wanted something for the winter which is also why I was more interested in a flatter boot (or at least something with a chunkier heel), I'm afraid a boot with some of the small heels like pictured may not work out as well for walking/running around in the snow, sludge, or wet pavement? (and I know that even some of the initial riding boots I posted aren't like, fully functional snow boots or anything like that)

Honestly I'm willing to sacrifice a little bit of the aesthetic here, I know that's gonna ruffle some feathers but yeah.

I hate to be that pain in the ass that shoots everyone down like this, but I'm not sure if I'm expressing what I want and don't want clearly enough... Maybe it'd be better if I asked my question like this:

>What kind of features should I try to find in a boot suitable/just okay/just fine for wearing with gothic lolita, with the thought in mind that I would be using these to walk around in the winter?

Like, I don't care if I'm gonna buy something that's going to be 'nitpick' is what I'm trying to get across, I'm just trying to get a certain type of functionality/practicality out of the boot because I think first off, I'm limited in the fact that I need something that's wide calf. The blouse looks hot pink from your photo, which is a colour I generally feel should be avoided. If it's actually a deeper red, I guess it's fine. The headwear needs to go, though. It looks like something you'd see in a bad child's costume for Esmerelda or Jasmine.
What shoes and bag are you wearing with this? It's hard to recommend headwear without knowing what other colours are in your palette or what sort of vibe you're going for.

>>8572844
I personally think the headbow is fine but agree with >>8572910 that white lace tights would better suit a mature sweet look. The mismatched whites (at least from the photo) might peeve some, but they seem close enough to work for me.

You could always add a bracelet or ring or two for more jewelry, and if you're crafty, create a rose or macaron bag clip to match the print.

Please burn that headdress. I would suggest adding more wine red accessories to the dress itself if you are going with this color scheme. I beautiful pin on the waist sash would tie it together more, as well as red tights, or shoes.

I think the mismatch whites are more to do with the lighting. The bow is spot on irl and so are the socks. All though the bag might be a bit off it matches better than my pink bags. I am planning on wearing this again to an event, and for that Ill order a better matching bag. But honestly for dinner with my friends and family I think the white ones close enough.

Do you think I could get away with plain white tights? I dont really like the way lace tights look. Im worried plain white will just be too big of a color block.

would this head piece look odd with the dress? I want it because I was thinking it kinda gives that nun-y feel but is slightly different from wearing a veil.

it's plain because it's intended to be decorated, I was thinking of just leaving it as it is so it fits in with the dress more? since I'm just not too sure how else I would decorate it without it becoming too OTT/extravagant, since I want it to be a little bit more reserved (again, nun-like). Perhaps black lace and a cross in the center?

I personally think that tights look weird with short sleeves, and the ankle socks will be cute. I'd use lace tights if you ever do a more ott coord with a fancier blouse. Same with the headbow, it looks cute and casual, but when you do the coord for the event later, I'd use the hat with flowers like the other anon posted or something like it.
I'm not sure about the neck of the cutsew/blouse , though, does it look okay worn? It looks pretty casual in the pic. I'd ditch the pearls with a collar like that.

>I have tights and knee high socks on
There are very, very few situations where people do this (or look good doing it) - these times are only with ankle socks and tights in matching color. Or maybe if a lolita were trying to layer during the winter, but they wouldn't want people to notice they layered.

>I wore the gloves because i thought it was better to have something over nothing
I understand your thinking. Just a heads up, though, that fingerless gloves will almost guarantee your outfit will look ita. I've only seen fingerless gloves work once, sort of, and it was in a magazine shot from Kera (I think). Wristcuffs or bracelets are best, when you have them.

>ive tried to find nice blue heels with no luck
I scoured around antaina, and found these in pic related, although they're a bit darker than the mana-sama blue of the skirt:

>ive recently got blue otks to replace my legwear
You probably won't need those shoes now, haha. Black shoes are easier to find, and definitely more versatile to add to your wardrobe. I would suggest a chunkier shoe to keep the gothic vibe.

That is fair actually. I often get comments when I do floordinates that my outfit would look more balanced with a black bow but then when I actually do a black bow I also feel like it blends into my hair too much.

I really like the clean simplicity of this, would be a shame to spoil that look with extra jewellery, hair bows etc. I like both tights options, just go with the one you prefer, no harm in buying both sets anyway for different looks since tights are relatively cheap.

I'd avoid using bow Alice bands etc, it completely takes away from the cute yet somewhat severe appearance of the distinctive Wednesday look. What I would suggest is very small matt, neat black bows at the ends of the plaits and nothing more.

Sometimes stark is good and I think your coord is a good example of where it works - not too mention it's quite refreshing in lolita fashion.

I like this but I have to agree with the others that the black bow isn't quite doing it, at the very least I think it would look better placed to the side and not directly in the centre.

I actually think a white oldschool type headdress would look good with this, perhaps with some small black bows or roses added to the sides (keep it subtle so it doesn't quite resemble a typical black x white headdress).

Another trick for making black bows stand out a little better on dark hair, is to add little white/cream pearl embellishments to it, I think that could look quite pretty as well.

bring in some cream roses for under the bonnet plus a few that exact match the burgundy of the dress and i think it will work.

Agree with the other anon that the heart bag is not quite right, besides it seems a bit more orange in tone than the other reds/burgundy. Card purse looks good.

I like the tights, I think the cream shoes also help break up the boldness of the pattern well.

Ah, I see. It's mainly the blouse and the cardigan. Because the skirt poofs out from the waist, normally everything above the waist you'd want to reduce bulk and have it be somewhat form-fitting, so that you can emphasise the poof (and also not look so fat -- when the top is poofy and the bottom is poofy, you end up looking like a snowman, or maybe a tent, because there is so much loose fabric. So you end up looking bigger than you really are). Mainstream cardigans are also usually well-known for being too long for lolita as well, they tend to sit weirdly on poofy skirts and cut off the skirt in a rather jarring place.

So basically what you need is a blouse that fits better; get a blouse that is shaped so that it tapers in at the waist (look for princess seams, or look for a blouse made with stretch material). For the cardigan, get one that is tighter, not so loose, and get a cropped cardigan that ends above your waist so you don't have to deal with trying to get it to sit nicely over your skirt.

For otome, it's perfectly acceptable to have a completely flat skirt, so a loose blouse with a loose cardigan over a flat skirt is fine.

There is also a little lack of detailing, lolita likes to have small little touches of finery on everything. For instance the blouse would look nicer if it had some nice lace on it. The beret can be prettied up with a rose hair clip or an additional bow. The cardigan is a little plain, too. If you can't find a more fancy cardigan, adding a nice brooch or a nice necklace can make it look better.

Hope that helps!

Normally I suggest just doing another colour and then adding red accesories, usually white x brown with red accessories work pretty well. But then I noticed in your pic that the dress isn't even white x brown, it's more like funky grey (I guess because of the brown lining showing through the white).

I think you can still try it with yellow x brown + red accents, or pink x brown + red accents, or even do a full brown coord with red accents, though. I'd say try putting together a few collages and see if it looks all right before going all out and committing to purchases.

Patterned tights, dark colours preferably.
A dark navy or black underskirt to make the dress appear longer.
The headbows sitting that vertically looks horribly awkward. Try making them more horizontal or avoid them all together, they look a little tacky.
Fake eyelashes, you have lovely shaped eyes so make them noticeable with longer lashes.
That dangly thing is too long and is dragging the focal point of your facial features down. You want the bottom star to not go below your lips. It's there to draw attention to your face, not your neck. Also, it appears too silver when you have a gold necklace. Pick only one metal, not two.
Also, your blouse appears too tight, particularly in the arms. Like another anon said, get something more ruffly and covered in lace.
And no ankle socks, esp. with tights. It really doesn't flatter you. You have a cute face, and work on your poses. Don't let people take photos "looking up" at you. It's an unflattering angle. Good luck, you'll make a great lolita eventually.

Jewellery: the teacup necklace and the dangly earrings are cute, plus those are more likely to be seen if you choose the wig rather than braids. I think the bright bracelet is too bright and would go for the lighter colour to match the necklace.
Hat: sounds cute. I would go for less is more rather than ott so it should be easy to get a couple of flowers and a ribbon to attach yourself.
Tights: given that the dress is so long, you may get away with them as they will hardly show. I like the socks better though.
Basket: looks a bit orange. I'd go for a lighter beige straw, although I suppose if your hat matches it then it's not such a big deal.
Also I prefer the tan shoes overall, I think they are nicer.

I can never tell from stock photos how IW well look irl. I've seen off brand ivory knit otks with lace tops before in normal stores but of course it's completely the wrong time of year to find them now.

>>8578412
To be honest I would have had no idea this was witch themed if I saw it irl. It just looks like a normal outfit. Because the colours aren't usual and the dress isn't even remotely gothic at a casual glance, the themes of the items need to be more obviously stereotypically witch costume - e.g. slightly pointy, buckle shoes with a chunky heel (could be a diy job with chunky pumps and gluing on buckles, it pic related can be found here http://www.maskworld.com/english/department/theme-parties/witches-wizards/witch-shoes/witch-shoes-brown--103938)), striped tights (maybe brown/white if you're set on red x brown x white), consider a cape or capelet, and hat + broom + cauldron shaped handbag? It will probably be a fair bit of diy as those colours will be difficult to find and match.

Thank you for the input, anon!
For the hat, I did plan on keeping it simple. Lace trim on the brim and wrapped around the crown, and a few artificial roses with a small cornflower blue (I think that's the blue on the dress) bow, to mimic the print on the dress.

Aside from what's already been suggested, I would consider picking up the blue ribbon trim as an accent colour, or pairing this dress with pink, a teal green or navy.

It might depend on your hair. If you have brown hair a brown bow might get lost in which case maybe a couple of flower clips in ivory/brown or blue would be better

Yeah, it's more of a cream than a white.
I usually coord this with pink or cream, which is why when I saw that red x brown coord I was thinking I might try that out. My style tends to be a bit simpler/not so loud, though, which is why I'd like to avoid something quite so vibrant.
I do own a similar red cardigan and red shoes, so I might try what >>8577414 and >>8577093 suggested. I am just a bit of a newbie and still don't trust my coording judgement.

it's a nice blouse but I feel like a higher neckline rather than a peter pan collar would be more fitting to a vampy coord. I love your coord in general though anon, especially the wine version.

I prefer your original blouse choice for the reason above but I do see what the other anon means about it being a shame to cover up the jsk under bust detailing, I really think it depends where the cape part will fall. You could even do some creative temporary stitches on the cape part perhaps, to reveal more of the jsk.

Some bat clips in addition to your hair accessory could look good. The same company also do a necklace that doubles as a brooch.

I like this, not sure on the hat though tbh, it looks inferior to a lot of high quality vintage hats you can pick up for less money - if I couldn't see the btssb logo on it, I'd assume it was just a mediocre vintage style hat or possibly something from the 80s inspired by the 40s.

Are you planning to wear a blouse? The jabot with that dress neckline could be kinda weird. I'm also not 100% convinced about the tights, I think a motif of some sort (bats?) would be cuter than vertical stripes. Presumably the book bag is just a filler and you're actually gonna carry the pumpkin one? Or are you intending it kinda like a book of spells + pumpkin?
