Can we get some room inspiration?
I'm redecorating and I'm in dire need of some inspo for smallish rooms? I'm talking 10ft by 8ft approx?

Creative and attractive storage ideas greatly welcome.

Oh fuck, please help me gulls.

I don't know anywhere else to post this, and I don't trust /toy because I am trying to keep my room slowly Lolita-fied and cute, even with a giant dinosaur painted on the main wall from the former occupant.

I have all my BJD stuff in storage. Everything has been redone to center around my Lolita. Petticoats hanging on the wall, purses just beneath the ceiling.

But, how do I organize a bunch of dolly clothes and make my room look cute?

Everything that gets posted here is nice and fine, at least when you live by your own or with your parents. But I want to lolify my bedroom I share with my boyfriend and I definitely can't make it a pink wonderland.

I live in a flat and so since we can't change anything permanently or have anything on the walls that can't be removed without leaving residue behind, how do I lolify my room?

I don't have too much problem right now because I've been on and off the hobby, selling things here and there but I use a large plastic bin I keep under my bed (bed risers will give you more space under there as well). Everything is sorted into clear plastic bags. Yo-sd wigs in one. SD shoes in another. Maintenance supplies (magic erasers, crochet hook for restringing, etc.) in another. And so on. Soon I will be getting plastic drawers made by Sterilite to sort things by size.

If you don't want to use plastic bags you can try these: Eyes can be kept in padded foam holders you can buy from certain companies. You can keep wigs on stands. They're easy to make. It's just a base, dowel, and foam ball. Shoes can be kept in a bead/craft organizer like pic related.

I posted this but it didn't seem to go through. I recommend 3M wall hooks, they're strong enough to hold up heavy pictures and even mirrors but they attach to the wall using an adhesive strip that doesn't puncture the wall or pull off the paint. I'm renting too and I use them all over my place.

Since you can't paint, you should bring in the colors you want through your furniture, rugs, pictures and picture frames. Pick a color palette and then paint your picture frames in those colors and find pillows and rugs that match the theme. If you're going for a really pastel vibe, I recommend checking out kids' stores, they usually have a lot of cute girly furniture and rugs.

For picture frames you can buy them new for cheap at places like Michael's and probably through ebay or aliexpress, or you can go thrifting and get used ones for super cheap. You don't need to get matching frames, painting them will make different designs look cohesive.

I hate those brick walls I only ever seem to see in school settings and sympathize. It never looks very cozy. I say getting different furniture would really help here. Get rid of things like the see through boxes on your desk (I had one of them too and they're just not warm looking at all). Try getting some wood looking furniture that isn't so minimalist. Your bed looks like it would benefit from something like a wood frame too.

I guess you like sort of celtic or nordic themed things, judging by what I see here? Maybe emphasize it a bit more and add more iconic pieces like the viking. Your faerie looking cloth doesn't really match anything. Maybe get a purple and black blanket for your bed if you can't do much else. The pictures on your wall have no real cohesion. Maybe add more fantasy type items, get a faerie calendar or something and move personal pictures to their own area of your room. I think if you emphasized some celtic theme or slight fantasy theme it'd really be nice.

Different anon, I don't know your style but all your pieces look kind of dark, so I'm thinking a dark and cozy kind of look! I advise adding some candles or some sort of more yellow lighting (fairy lights or something similar) to make it feel warmer. The white walls will always seem very stark and cold, so you have to contrast them somehow, I think. Get some to match your bedding, you could definitely go for a cozy, mismatched antique-y sort of look with the Nordic accessories and some wooden bits. You can find really cheap wooden trinket boxes or jewelry cases for your things in thrift stores, or even places like Target have that shabby-chic sort of stuff.

gulls, goth here.

it is difficult to find affordable and non-Halloweeny goth decor. i post goth inspo in these threads often, but it's the same few pictures everyone has seen:

>rooms with elaborate, heavy, expensive furniture
>the one black, white, and purple gothic lolita's room
>sterile show rooms with no storage or decorations, just gothic bedspreads and dark wallpaper
>cheap Hot Topic looking immature messes

i would love if anyone had gothic inspo that a college student could realistically aim for. gothic storage and organization, a bed that wouldn't cost more than rent, a geeky figure setup... basically, the kind of stuff like >>8619304 or >>8619582 but in gothic or, hell, classic themes.

Most of the time there are no photographs of stuff like that because it isn't quite as aspirational and interior design-y, plus most dorm rooms have shit lighting. I personally think the best way to goth a room on a budget, particularly if you have furniture already or are in a rental where you can't repaint etc, is a combo of diy and soft furnishings. A full ruffled bedspread or comforter on a bed, full length curtains with a drapey window treatment above, removable vinyl silhouette stickers on the wall or even a full feature wall with removable wallpaper. Storage wise if you can repaint/revarnish and replace handles, a simple wooden chest of drawerd with round handles can become a dark stained one with interesting bejewelled handles, tables and chests can be covered with textured fabrics, etc.

This is probably an obvious awnser but around here our dollarama has pretty boxes with flowers and such on them. I bought a few of varying sizes and I use those to store my stuff since it's hard to fit 1/3 stuff into smaller containers. Jewelry boxes can help too if you only have a bit for one of your dolls, I was able to fit 2 dresses, a wig, 2 pairs of eyes and a pair of wings nicely in one for a 1/6. You could probably mod one of those "closet" themed boxes for hanging larger clothes if you wanted to.

Actually if there is anything groundbreaking about it (I don't read improve your life shit, I wouldn't know) is that you're supposed to get rid of it all at once compared to other "one item per day" methods. The whole method she describes (taking it all out on a pile, looking at things one by one, emotional evaluation) also has some psychological benefits.

>> No.8634063

>>8634029
It isn't, but she explains and does it in a way that's simple and easy to understand.
Mind gymnastics that make it easy for you to get rid of stuff you don't use.

Other books usually do it like 'if you haven't worn it in a year, throw it away' or 'if it has x, throw it away' without considering the emotional connection factor. I don't know if you've heard of the term 'psychological contract', they teach it in management classes.

Basically she's not forcing you to make a psychological contract with yourself to throw away the item if it fits the x, y and z criteria, but makes it more flexible than that and there's nothing simpler than only using your feelings towards that particular item as a yardstick to decide whether it gets binned or not.

Also, it's more fun when you think of it as a new start.

Now, I don't really think it's gonna help you stay clean and clutter-free forever per se, but it definitely helps change your mindset which in turn can stop you from wasting money on useless trinkets.

holy shit anon, your fella sounds mean. Mine has the biggest room in the house for his game room and it looks like a bomb hit it, but I say nothing, let him have his space. He has to sleep in a pink room with bunnies everywhere, granny bedding and a princess canopy and doesn't complain. It's a shame yours can't let you have your space. I think you should move out on your own, if you're the only one saving for the future that doesn't bode well for you as a couple in the future. It'd be nice for you to have your own space. I'd create 'borders' using your furniture. If you look through the ikea catalogue in the living room section, they do this a lot. You use your sofa to mark off where your 'living room' will be and arrange your coffee table etc. in that space, and then against the back of the couch can be your dining table or some bookcases, whatever you want the 'behind' section to be used for.

Some of my older pieces are from the grandparents (but have become living room furniture as they are too large for my room), but it Depends on where you are anon. If you're in the UK (don't know about abroad) I really recommend gumtree for looking for antiques, bargains and things you can upcycle. Also don't underestimate ebay if you are not near antique shops, many have gone online and will auction pieces on there (I got a large French wardrobe and side tables from an ebay antique shop), charity shops/second hand/markets are all great sources but it can take patience to accumulate items and many times they may just require a bit of elbow grease but are work the time investment.

If your furniture is modern (ikea bed here), try to tie in the colours and let your accessories/decorations/pillows/ bedding do the work for you to get the feel you are looking for if you can not make an investment in a large piece of furniture.

Hmm, it's not bad. It does lend itself more to "shabby chic" than to gothic, although your vanity/dresser thing seems really cute and gothic appropriate. You could try painting it if you have the space, just one piece of furniture at a time (and use drop cloths to protect your floors and other furniture) or you could maybe switch out the handles on your sets of drawers for something more gothic feeling and skip painting if it's too much of a hassle. I was going to post a pic of drawer handles but my phone is being stupid, apologies. You can find good stuff just googling around for "gothic drawer handles" though.

I'd focus on getting a rug and curtains that fit your theme and then making little purchases like vases, storage boxes, etc that fit the theme.

For the clutter-
> Go through your stuff bit by bit and don't be afraid to get rid of things. There are charities that will pick up old items from your doorstep. Don't keep stuff that is broken/damaged beyond immediate repair. Don't keep stuff you never ever use or don't use anymore.
> If you have special items (designer clothes, collectibles), maybe consider reselling it for cash? If you decide to do this, get started on it ASAP. Don't use it as a reason to hoard more.
> Do it a little at a time if it's bad. Spend a day going through just one chest of drawers, your closet, etc. Work your way around your space.

Every time I switch my wardrobe from winter to summer and back again, I also go through my wardrobe and get rid of some stuff. I do the same for other areas periodically/as needed.

> Get stuff to organize with - plastic bins, baskets, etc. The dollar store usually has decent small containers/baskets. You can sometimes find cute bins/containers at Five Below or places like Ross/TJ Maxx/etc. I wouldn't use cardboard boxes for long-term storage.

For your furniture, are you allowed to paint it? Can you use cute contact paper, stencils, fabric, etc to dress them up/make them match a little better? I know the feeling about hand-me-down furniture. I'd love to have a matching furniture set, too.

Not sure if helpful to you but I keep mine stored in a dresser with shelves. I'm waiting for some bookshelves to display the figures though so those are there temporarily.

This is how I'm storing my plushies at the moment. It's great for keeping them out of the way, they used to take over my whole room.

oh dear lord. forgive me but the sight of all of your plushies encompassed in a net made me laugh so hard.
although overall, you have a very cute bedroom set up.

Boyfriend and I have our first place together. Got this bedding set and asked him if he's okay with it and he replied that he doesn't mind any bed as long as I'm in it... Well, at least I can get my dream girly princess room now!

Yeah, it's pretty funny to look at, especially the ones at the bottom being squished. But its honestly the best I could come up with for the amount of plushies I have. They didn't even all fit in there, I still have another box of them and more on shelves. I like to think of it as some sort of hammock though and they're all just chillin'.

the frames need to be less dominant and in earthy tones like burgundy, sand, taupe, chestnut or plain white. Thin frames would be the best.

You can actually paint your fridge, my mom has done it multiple times. Pretty sure you need metal paint, or maybe you have to prime it with bulls eye 123? The fridge at her old apartment was sort of marbled/drippy blue with pale purple and gold. She also painted my sister's fridge from white to black, and you'd never be able to tell it wasn't a black fridge to begin with.
