I absolutely love polkadots, but I'm pretty damn disappointed in this release. They could have nixed the logo, done the bodice differently, and done hidden pockets instead of one's that stick out.

Well for one the cage is HUGE, thats just a small portion of it from that angle, but no they come out twice a day to sprint and binky around the house for a couple hours at the very least, and I have a play pen coming in the mail so I can set their cage up in it and open it up for them to freely go in and out of :)

Mostly, I'm going for gothic -- I want to add punk elements and do old school sometime in the future but I know punk is definitely for more experienced lolitas and I want to get the basics of coordinating down before I go into the funky land of old school gothic.

Sorry for the huge pic file. I started making this collage last night using the "building a complete lolita wardrobe" post from fyeahlolita as a sort of a skeleton for what to look for. (I went with 1 special wear JSK, 1 OP, 2 "basic"/easily matched JSKs, one simple skirt, one fancy skirt, 3 blouses, 2 cutsews, two cardigans, one pair of warm weather shoes, one pair of cold weather shoes) and some basic leg wear (not including plain black tights and etc.). Most of the stuff was either from wunderwelt or my-lolita-dress/taobao shops...

Also, you might want to start with brand for main pieces. It's a noticeable difference in quality even with the really good ones, and I feel like when newbies go in with a brand only mindset at first, they advance in the fashion much faster. Your tastes are pretty simple gothic, so you should have no problem finding secondhand brand for the same price as offbrand, anyway. Plus, it holds its value more.

I was mostly going with pieces that can be tailored.Sadly, I've got a really big bust and a large bust/waist ratio .(like 10-12 inch difference). Hey gulls, I have decided to take on a project of moving LJs lolita item washing/laundering list to a google spreadsheet. I want everyone to be able to add to it as they desire so that it can continue to be updated.

Currently, I am creating different tabs for each brand, and have also made a tab for general info and rules for adding to the list. Each brand has a section for name, item type, color, and instructions. Print/dress/item names are in alphabetical order. Indie brands will likely be under a catch-all tab.

My question to you is, do you have any other requests for this project? This will be for the community as a whole, so what would you like to see?

My one concern is if people seriously fuck with the database at any point (erase a huge chunk and don't add it back, write unrelated or immature things, etc.). What are your bust/wasit cm anon? Sometimes brand can be stretchier than what its measurements are posted. I've found that AP (especially their newer stuff) and Meta are really forgiving. Full back shirring is better than the partial. I personally find Babys stuff a little... less forgiving. So I'd try to steer away from that.

Baby's stuff is definitely a little less forgiving - some of their measurements are big but I feel like certain items are actually a touch smaller than the listed measurements. Or maybe the shirring just isn't as stretchy, idk.

But yeah full back shirring is definitely the friendliest, under fully shirred bodices. A fully shirred back is going to be shirring from side seam to side seam (sometimes items look "fully shirred" and while they may have a lot of shirring, it still isn't a full back bodice of shirring)

Also, I think you should consider getting a second, simpler pair of shoes and purse. I am stuck on both sides of the fence. I went to a pretty bad high school where most people lived pay check to pay check because they always felt they needed to prove their wealth by buying designer shit and gold chains. Everything you just said, I couldn't agree more. I've had to seriously cut my lolita spending since I started college... Cut as in, I've probably bought 2 main pieces and then just a few purses and accessories. Now that I'm renting an apartment, I haven't even bought anything lolita related in over half a year. It's budgeting, and knowing what you can/can't afford. I actually started a jar for loose pocket change and bottle returns so that maybe in a few months, I might be able to buy something again, but I just don't feel right using my (measly) paycheck for anything other than rent, bills, and food. Yet, even though I've never been bought lolita except for special occasions like birthday/christmas people from my old comm treated and still treat me like some kind of brand whore even though I haven't even worn lolita for months. Because in the past before college I had a job that allowed me to save money, and make some nice brand purchases for myself, even though I've only bought 3 brand dresses new. Everything else I have is second hand or taobao. When I was living back home they all assumed my parents were paying for everything, even though I told them I have a job baka.
(Sorry this got a little ranty, haha. I won't lie, I'm still a little salty over them basically villainizing me just because they couldn't budget better than a 15 year old at the time this all started. 6 years later and I still occasionally get a comment thrown my way on FB.)

Cutsew onepieces, anon. They're stretchy, made from t-shirt fabric, and most of them don't have fitted bodices so they'll be loose, comfy and breathable. Provided you fit in them, of course.

jsks tend to have a lot of seams under the lining, so once you remove the lining you'll just be rolling around in a lot of seam edges. If you really want to try it, btssb dresses that aren't A-line tend to be lined only in the skirt, so you can aim for that, try it once, and sell it off without damage once you figure out it isn't as comfy as you thought.

Most of the time when I'm not wearing lolita I'm wearing otome(ish), mostly ETC with cute cardigans, tights and shoes. If I can't be assed to even throw on a dress/skirt and a cardigan then yeah, I dress very frumpy. On those days I often end up stealing my boyfriend's sweaters which of course don't fit me very well.

When i was working full time and 5 or 6 days a week along with full time uni classes i wore my work clothes which were black business casual to work. I would say normally i wore black or striped basic tees and black pants or dark wash jeans. That being said, i usually wear a juniors large/hollister L when i should wear a M or S so i probably always look frumpy.

Speak for yourself friend. If anything jfashion has increased my desire to look good regardless of what I'm wearing. At the very heart of it lolita, otome, etc are about taking care of your looks and decent presentation. I think a lot of people take that to heart and either adapt their wardrobe to more jfashion or tailor their closet accordingly. So just because you're a frump-chan doesn't mean most of us are.
