Fuck, why do all the cuts have to suck. I'm not sure what I hate worse, the giant ruffles only on the sides of the OP bib, the heart pockets on the jsk, or the lacing on the skirt. Dammit AP why did you have to ruin this.

What's wrong with the heart pockets? They're reminiscent of oldschool pockets and fit the sweetness of the dress.
Also the cut of the jsk should be flattering even for anons with big tits. It's not boob-high waisted so unless you're a fatty-chan it'll look good on most people

I'm an old school fag and tbqh, I'm not feeling the heart pockets either. Kinda seems off with the dress design being so contemporary.

I absolutely love polkadots, but I'm pretty damn disappointed in this release. They could have nixed the logo, done the bodice differently, and done hidden pockets instead of one's that stick out.

Side note (and polite sage), I'd like this reimagined with white polkadots and trimming.

i quite like the heart pockets, but they seem more larme than anything. you're totally right about the bib ruffles though those are totally unnecessary.

Is the back of the JSK partially or fully shirred? It's hard to tell from the black colourway.

>> No.9128446

>>9128349
I was so excited for this, but the ruffles on the OP are aweful and the tulle trim on the JSK makes me think hot topic skater dress. If the JSK had the cute polkadot lace the OP has, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I actually really like the heart pockets, I think they will look better in person than in the stock photos.

What'd the deal with so many simple lolita garments being tagged as unwashable? I have a few brand blouses that are just cotton with simple lace and all of the care tags warn against machine washing, even though they've now been through the wash countless times without a hitch.

I'm a bit shocked because it's quite rude to attempt to buy something that isn't listed for sale, and even more so to try to use guilt to get it. I hope you'll consider this if you find yourself in this situation again.
>I'll keep in mind that you're looking for this print and be sure to link it to you if I see it for cheap again! Good luck! (you obviously don't actually have to do this)

I think you kind of want to let her know exactly what offended you, ask her not to do it again to anyone else, and then at least try to be a little friendlyish. Oh god, I absolutely hate people with this mentality, I have so many poorfag friends who subscribe to it in a really shitty judgemental way. I understand thinking that way for yourself when you're too poor to justify any kind of extra spending, but thinking that should apply to everyone or somehow is the superior way of living is so fucking retarded. Not being able to afford things you love, but don't physically need is one of the worst parts of being poor (assuming you're in a place like the US where being poor rarely means you're starving). Like, good for you for not willing/being able to spend money on things that make life more enjoyable, but please don't push it on others and act like you're so much more practical?

>> No.9130095

>>9130087
that mindset is such bullshit. humans need "luxuries" for their mental well being, living a life with just the bare necessities is beyond miserable.Usually the people who espouse it aren't really as ~practical~ as they're pretending to be either. They just think that THEIR luxury is justifiable but yours aren't. My mother-in-law does the same thing -- gives my husband shit for buying video games/nerd merch but buys multiple bottles of wine a week and bought a brand new truck recently (despite having two perfectly functioning vehicles)

>to keep this lolita related

Mostly, I'm going for gothic -- I want to add punk elements and do old school sometime in the future but I know punk is definitely for more experienced lolitas and I want to get the basics of coordinating down before I go into the funky land of old school gothic.

Sorry for the huge pic file. I started making this collage last night using the "building a complete lolita wardrobe" post from fyeahlolita as a sort of a skeleton for what to look for. (I went with 1 special wear JSK, 1 OP, 2 "basic"/easily matched JSKs, one simple skirt, one fancy skirt, 3 blouses, 2 cutsews, two cardigans, one pair of warm weather shoes, one pair of cold weather shoes) and some basic leg wear (not including plain black tights and etc.). I would say you're ready to start buying, judging from your collage. I'd suggest not touching punk yet and as for old school, play it as safe as possible.

Also, you might want to start with brand for main pieces. It's a noticeable difference in quality even with the really good ones, and I feel like when newbies go in with a brand only mindset at first, they advance in the fashion much faster. Your tastes are pretty simple gothic, so you should have no problem finding secondhand brand for the same price as offbrand, anyway. Plus, it holds its value more.

Figured since they wouldn't be seen, why show them when asking about what looks good, y'know? My bad for not stating that originally, though. Thanks for the headwear suggestion! I have a hard time finding things I like in that category since Alice bows tend to make me feel really childish.

>>9130137
Thanks!
I was mostly going with pieces that can be tailored.Sadly, I've got a really big bust and a large bust/waist ratio .(like 10-12 inch difference). I've been browsing wunderwelt and closet child a lot but I've only managed to find brand skirts that'll fit my waist and not much luck with jsks or OPs. The things I have found have been reeaaally close cuts and I just want to make sure things fit properly. Once I'm more confident in my alteration skills, I'll probably move on to brand. I sold a dress on LM earlier this week and messaged the buyer asking her to let me know if she received the invoice. She replied today.

>''Hi I have the invoice but I can't pay it yet because I don't have the money, maybe I can pay it next week.'

Sold a blouse lot a few weeks ago and the buyer didn't ask for a shipping quote.
>send her an invoice
>'I thought shipping would be cheaper'
>Tell her that she can check herself on postage website
>'I did check and it's only $12.70, why are you overcharging me?'
>I charged her $13.
>'Can we work something out on shipping?'
>Tell her I don't think it's unreasonable and I specifically mention requesting a shipping price before committing to a purchase.

Hey gulls, I have decided to take on a project of moving LJs lolita item washing/laundering list to a google spreadsheet. I want everyone to be able to add to it as they desire so that it can continue to be updated.

Currently, I am creating different tabs for each brand, and have also made a tab for general info and rules for adding to the list. Each brand has a section for name, item type, color, and instructions. Print/dress/item names are in alphabetical order. Indie brands will likely be under a catch-all tab.

My question to you is, do you have any other requests for this project? This will be for the community as a whole, so what would you like to see?

I have included my email so you can also send any questions or comments there, also for identification.

My one concern is if people seriously fuck with the database at any point (erase a huge chunk and don't add it back, write unrelated or immature things, etc.). I really do want anyone to be able to add to it, but I'm not sure if it should be something that is moderated or not. I would prefer it not die off. What are your bust/wasit cm anon? Sometimes brand can be stretchier than what its measurements are posted. I've found that AP (especially their newer stuff) and Meta are really forgiving. Baby's stuff is definitely a little less forgiving - some of their measurements are big but I feel like certain items are actually a touch smaller than the listed measurements. Or maybe the shirring just isn't as stretchy, idk.

But yeah full back shirring is definitely the friendliest, under fully shirred bodices. A fully shirred back is going to be shirring from side seam to side seam (sometimes items look "fully shirred" and while they may have a lot of shirring, it still isn't a full back bodice of shirring)

I unfortunately don't because I ended up selling the two OPs I did this to (I did revert them back) but I'll try to explain it better bc I realize it was confusing. I'm also not sure if your armholes have buttons or not.

>have OP w/ too tight armholes
>armholes have two button options for tighter/looser fit
>arms still too fat for loose fit
>sew elastic to both sides of armhole where buttons would button
>move one button to side with buttonhole
>profit

I hope that makes a bit more sense. Basically the armholes could be buttoned looser or tighter because there were two button options. I ended up sewing elastic to the side with buttons and the side with the button hole, and in addition, I moved one button to the buttonhole side so it looked like a button went thru the buttonhole. I hope that makes sense. I can try to draw a picture if you need.

I am stuck on both sides of the fence. I went to a pretty bad high school where most people lived pay check to pay check because they always felt they needed to prove their wealth by buying designer shit and gold chains. They eat fast food and tv dinners exclusively and frequently missed rent to keep the appearance of having enough money to always afford designer shit. A few members of my old comm had the same mentality and would live paycheck to paycheck and always on payment plans for lolita, starting some soon as they were about to finish another.
My mom on the other hand would complain about me buying 2nd hand dresses for relatively dirt cheap because "anon, you dont wear them everyday! you can get great clothes at kmart and walmart for 1/10 of the price". she still complains that i make small trips every year or so to visit big lolita events when i could be saving it for bills or hidden expenses.

Everything you just said, I couldn't agree more. I've had to seriously cut my lolita spending since I started college... Cut as in, I've probably bought 2 main pieces and then just a few purses and accessories. Now that I'm renting an apartment, I haven't even bought anything lolita related in over half a year. It's budgeting, and knowing what you can/can't afford. I actually started a jar for loose pocket change and bottle returns so that maybe in a few months, I might be able to buy something again, but I just don't feel right using my (measly) paycheck for anything other than rent, bills, and food. Yet, even though I've never been bought lolita except for special occasions like birthday/christmas people from my old comm treated and still treat me like some kind of brand whore even though I haven't even worn lolita for months. Because in the past before college I had a job that allowed me to save money, and make some nice brand purchases for myself, even though I've only bought 3 brand dresses new. Everything else I have is second hand or taobao. When I was living back home they all assumed my parents were paying for everything, even though I told them I have a job baka.
(Sorry this got a little ranty, haha. I won't lie, I'm still a little salty over them basically villainizing me just because they couldn't budget better than a 15 year old at the time this all started. 6 years later and I still occasionally get a comment thrown my way on FB.)

Does anyone else use unlined JSK's as sleepwear? It can be really cold in my country and non-print JSK's can be really cheap so I use them as roomwear and sleepwear. But sometimes I find a really cheap JSK that I want to use as sleepwear and it ends up being lined and really uncomfortable to sleep in, and for some reason I can't get myself to 'destroy' the dress by removing it.

Luckily most of my currently comm that actually show up to stuff understand budgeting, jobs etc but I've definitely had people previously tell me that I'm "lucky" to be able to afford brand, etc. Yes, I'm lucky in that I was born into a supportive family that encouraged me to do well at school and get into a professional career pathway, and helped me with college, but the fact that I'm out of university and working rather than still in high school probably has more to do with it.

My comm wasn't all that great, so most of the girls attending the meetups were the same ones making the comments online. They were usually SLIGHTLY more pleasant to my face, but would still make snide comments. Thankfully if my career path goes as intended, I'll be working in a place with a really great lolita comm (by coincidence! I chose a few places I want to apply after graduation, then out of curiosity checked out the comm... Made me even more excited about the prospect of moving there!)
I went to a few of the neighboring comm's meetups, but the drama was ridiculous. People getting banned left and right just because one of the mods didn't like them, so I ended up just becoming a lone-lolita, hanging out with some friends every once in awhile.
But yeah, I feel you. I stopped posting about 99% of what I do in lolita online, since the last time I did people just claimed I was a brand whore because I got a LP that they couldn't get.

Cutsew onepieces, anon. They're stretchy, made from t-shirt fabric, and most of them don't have fitted bodices so they'll be loose, comfy and breathable. Provided you fit in them, of course.

jsks tend to have a lot of seams under the lining, so once you remove the lining you'll just be rolling around in a lot of seam edges. If you really want to try it, btssb dresses that aren't A-line tend to be lined only in the skirt, so you can aim for that, try it once, and sell it off without damage once you figure out it isn't as comfy as you thought.

If you're into sweet, Japanese brand Swimmer makes some pjs with cutesy graphics on them.

So, a relative of mine went to Japan and offered to buy me something from Angelic Pretty whilst she was there. I asked her to buy me a pair of the pink Magic Princess OTKs.

The package arrived today, and she's bought me two pairs of the pink Aquarium Carnival socks. I'm absolutely grateful and touched that she remembered, and probably got advice to choose a next-best-thing for me, but I don't have any marine/sea print things in my wardrobe at all.

I do wear fairy kei, so I'm thinking of wearing them with that, but I'm thinking it would look out of place with anything else, and I honestly don't want to have to buy loads of new accessories just to make a coordinate with a plain dress. Any advice?

>> No.9134276

>>9134270
Different anon but yes. Often places get away with paying servers under minimum wage (which is barely enough as it is) by claiming that they get enough in tips. So yeah, tip well because your server likely needs it just to pay the bills.

>> No.9134277

>>9134270
Yeah, otherwise a lot of service/food industry people would literally go homeless because lol employer loopholes. It has less to do with the actual service and more to do with just general courtesy (on the consumer's end). You should always give 15-20% for basic service and more than that if you feel like it's with it. No tip means you're a salty and cheap ass mother fucker who shouldn't even be eating out anyway, more than 20% means you thought the service was excellent, you're rich, or you've worked in the food/service industry before

>> No.9134278

>>9134270
Yes, because wait staff typically only makes $2 an hour and it's seen as rude af if you don't at least tip the minimum of 15% of your order. Most other countries pay their wait staff a regular wage and they don't need to rely on tips to you know, live.

kind of relevant, but even shop girls (for brands or normal shops) are paid minimum wage and are expected to wear the brand's clothing. these people don't get tips, but servers do- how does that make sense (no salt intended, just confused)?

america's tipping system is really weird.

>> No.9134332

>>9134325
Servers are paid below minimum wage, sometimes significantly so. Being paid minimum wage would be an improvement for them.
I think it's all messed up anyway. IMO if you want your shop girls to wear a brand 'uniform' when they're at work, you should provide that as an employer.

>> No.9134333

>>9134325
You pay tips for the service, so a shop keeper isn't one. So food is the typical kind of place you give tips, but I know you can tip tattoo artists and such too. Retail can do commision tho, which is a bit different.

Some shitty places go well if you get 2$ an hour but tips make it 9 it's good enough, which makes the consumer have thr burden. But even without that, it's a since of appreciation of someone literally serving you.

You tip for service, basically. I've never heard of tipping store employees/cashiers because they don't really provide a service? They just ring up your purchases and out you go.

Typically who you tip here in 'Murica is:
>servers/waiters/waitresses
This doesn't include fast food people. It's only for places where you're waited on and have someone coming by to refill your drinks and bring your food/take your plates.
The only time you'd tip a non-server/waiter is if you're in a place like Starbucks or any food establishment where you see a tip jar. That jar is for all the employees on that shift and gets split up between them so it's not demanded you tip but if you had someone nice wait on you or got your drink/food in a hurry, it's nice to drop a dollar in there at the least.

>valets/luggage carriers
Anyone who takes your belongings for you up to your room or parks your car for you. This is a given that you tip even if there's no written rule on it. They're providing a service to you so while you're not obligated to pay them for it since it's part of their job, it's much in the way of tipping your server. If someone carries your bags or pushes your cart for you, tip them. If someone gets your car for you and does it quickly and your car is well taken care of, tip them.

In 'Murica, the rule of thumb is generally if someone goes out of their way for you to make your experience good, tip them. Waiters/servers, hotel employees like valets/bellhops, your hair stylist or pet groomer, etc. Anyone who is providing you a personal service. If you feel uncomfortable offering someone a tip because you don't know if it's warranted (like a coffee barista) just look for a tip jar.

>> No.9134430

>>9134270
Employers are required to make up the employee's wage to min wage if they don't get enough tips. Also, many employees don't pay tax on tips. So despite their whinging, they still get at least minimum wage, and often cheat on taxes.

When i was working full time and 5 or 6 days a week along with full time uni classes i wore my work clothes which were black business casual to work. I would say normally i wore black or striped basic tees and black pants or dark wash jeans. That being said, i usually wear a juniors large/hollister L when i should wear a M or S so i probably always look frumpy.

Outside of lolita I'm only jeans and tees. My clothing has to be practical as I work with kids and things get dirty easily.

Appears AP is selling a mook with a Cirque du L'Etoile tote bag.

AP does this all the time. I have a mook that included a Sugar Carnival tote bag.

That particular mook is old news. You could have just checked AP's website, amazon, or you know google.

So did Loli Loli Paradise just take up leave with the money? It's getting to middle august and she hasn't responded to anyone.

Speak for yourself friend. If anything jfashion has increased my desire to look good regardless of what I'm wearing. At the very heart of it lolita, otome, etc are about taking care of your looks and decent presentation. I think a lot of people take that to heart and either adapt their wardrobe to more jfashion or tailor their closet accordingly. So just because you're a frump-chan doesn't mean most of us are.

Fuck that sucks. I thought I was getting something on sale and now it's basically another $200 dress. I wish I knew a cheaper way...

How much was your order?

Totally OK, unless the trade was below value because the other person was a friend or you begged them, something like that

What? Use a forwarding service. It's like maybe $5 + shipping for a dress.
