I love canon outfits. Alternate outfits, swimsuits, lingerie, even pyjamas, they all make me happy. Canon stuff is always much better.

I'm kind of upset about this whole budoir trend for two reasons. For one thing, I wish more girls didn't feel the need to strip down to make money or get proper recognition. I wish good craftsmanship was more appreciated in cosplay. Not that it isn't right now - but many talented cosplayers are barely getting attention while anyone in a bikini gets thousands of likes. It's like we've entered this vicious cycle of neckbeards wanting to consume this stuff and girls just lining up to deliver. And of course, this doesn't really leave many males to make a quick buck. So many of these girls are painfully average (or not very attractive at all) and I feel like if a guy tried to get away with that he'd be laughed at to hell and back, feels bad man.

The second thing is that it just seems so soulless and shallow. I love fanservice desu, but I prefer tasteful fanservice by a mile. If the characters in question were wearing canon outfits and/or acting like themselves, it'd be so much better. Everything is just girls in a sexy pose, in a bra, on a bed, giving you bedroom eyes. I wish more of them were playful, or shy, or unaware and just doing their thing, or powerful and domineering, etc. Just not bland sexy. There's so much potential there to have fun and be creative, but nobody is doing it.

How does one reach the masses of thirsty guys willing to shed some dosh into this shit? Where to start out? How to build this kind of following?
If an unnatractive potato like Envy makes 3k+ a month, I don't see why someone average/decent looking couldn't. I've began to give it a though when I noticed the amount of likes on a (canon) swimsuit cosplay photo I posted got at least 3 times the amount of likes my other cosplays get.

I've hypotetically spoken about the idea to my gf and she'd willing to do something together, which means any girl on girl wouldn't look fake af like most of the examples in this thread.
We both detest the random cheap wig/cheap lingerie crap and the general "seduce the neckbeard" look. We both have been cosplaying for a few years and enjoy taking our time with wig+makeup and doing canon costumes. We were thinking something along the lines of what >>9332213 mentioned. Canon outfits, IC, nothing too blatantly exposed as we'd like to keep somewhat of an "innocence" to the photos, pic related (unless it's a dominant/sexy type of character, of course).
I assume we'd have to bend a bit and do more mainstream characters in order to reach a bigger audience too.
What sort of photos would you like to see? Anything in particular, suggestions, etc, all is very welcome.
This is really just very hypothetical but desu, we're both students, got college to pay and some extra cash would be a dream.

Personally things that aren't bedroom shots would be great. Not saying y'all should strip down in a forest, but the same hotel bedroom shots get really boring? I'd really just like to see other backdrops that represent the character. I think PiggyNukka recently did a fanservice pack for her Shougeki cos in a kitchen. She could've well gotten away with bedroom shots, but it was nice that she chose canon outfits and thoughtful backdrops.

That's a good question, I don't think either of us would go beyond most of what you see in gravure. We'll discuss it further!

As for bedroom shoots, we're not US based so, you wouldn't be seeing the same old hotel bedrooms for sure (and neither have we ever stayed at hotels for cons). All our photoshoots are done outside of cons and we do try our best to scout fitting locations for our characters, within possible. I admittedly don't follow PiggyNukka's work so I'll go take a look.

That's one of our main concerns, especially as my gf's area of study involves some public interaction. I'm not too worried since I'm doing 'backstage' work.

Well, that's why I was asking for opinions on what sort of thing would people like to see. Semi-nudity can be tasteful, which is what I'd like to go for. The point would be to show as much skin as the girls posted in this thread, except with actual cosplay, not random cheap underwear and decent backdrops that aren't ugly hotel rooms. Like I said, I'm willing to show my face, it's not like I don't have swimsuit cosplay photos online already. Just more worried about my gf, it's all hypothetical for now anyway.

There's unofficial ships too but then you risk alienating part of your fanbase. Good photography and editing is a must, IMO. Most overlook shoddy costume quality but bad lighting etc. will really hurt you. Find someone who can make you look good (or better if you already do) in a photo.

I think a lot of people are confusing empowerment with the sort of rush you get from exposing yourself, and the positive attention. Sure, you get a rush because you feel powerful, because you feel like people want you and it's up to you to decide what to with that. But feeling powerful is not the same as feeling empowered. Lol I know that sounds like pedantic garbage but I feel like there's at least a subtle difference.

I wouldn't hate doing true glamour/budoir photography. Seems like putting on a cute outfit and doing cute poses would be a fuckton of fun. But then I see how the scene is saturated with this kind of stuff and I feel gross about it. Not to mention I don't want to hurt my potential chances for a professional career.

That sounds good and it's what I'd like to do. I'm a little picky about my photoshoot locations, so that's something I'd definitely take into consideration for this 'project' too. As for ships, we do plenty of couple-y cosplays and usually have good feedback, although we mostly stick to canon/close to canon. I agree with you that good photography and editing is really important, I'm friends with a couple photographers who frequently do modeling/tasteful nudity photoshoots on the regular that I could potentially have a chat with about this.

Yeah, I figured having to do mainstream stuff would be a given. Delivering content regularly and reaching back to fans is very reasonable, we both already try our best to do it currently (she's better at social media than I am though, I'll need to take some tips from her).

Just to make it clear, none of us is a "starved college student", I merely said a some extra money would be nice. Also, we're from a small country so I highly doubt having dudes trying to get to meet us at cons would ever happen.
I'm not in any way convinced I will be making tons of money either, again, I merely mentioned that some extra income would be nice. We cosplay regularly and were just overlooking possibilities to make some sort of extra money with it.
However, I do have to agree with a lot of things you mentioned and I've actually had discussed some of the points you raised with my gf before reading your comment. I don't think we have the capability of handling that sort of attention on the regular, entertaining that kind of men, etc. The whole thing about interacting with them (looking at examples from chicks in here, livestreaming, playing vidya with them, etc etc) puts me off a bit, if anything because I can't pull off the enthusiastic, easy going thing my gf can. My gf is very attractive too, which does help.
I'd rather keep it down to just selling prints, even if the money isn't anywhere near 3k. We're not hungry for the money, we just wanted to get some way of doing a bit of profit out of something we spend so much time, money and effort on. Would it be worth it to you to do all this provocative shit now to make some money, only to have it come back later and bite you in the ass? A lot of these patreons have huge followings across all social media, hence the ridiculous monthly income. While I doubt all that money goes into making their shoots or patreon extras any better (you're right, literally so much of it is so ugly and unattractive chicks), I'm sure a little does. So take into account the time, photographer, editing time, costume "making" or costs of contacts and wigs, finding lingerie, etc and figure out out if it's going to be worth it. You want to stand out from the shitty boudoir bedroom photos? You got to treat it like a real business and work at it to make even a few hundred for side money. Otherwise you're looking at like 20 or 50 dollars a month or however you set it up which is embarrassing. It's not going to boom overnight. Also half these patreons offer more than just photos, you need to figure out what niche you're going to be throwing yourself at. People can find semi-attractive girl on girl for free literally any place online.....

It would be more worth your time to actually find a small commitment part time job or making wig or cosplay commissions-which people do still pay for, just be upfront about what you are making. And you'd probably have the same amount of income in the end without having embarrassing photos online.

I agree about good cosplay comissions and styling wigs if you're good at it. If not, there's a lot involving cosplay our just anime related hobbies in general that would be much more profitable and probably easier in the long run as well. It ironically takes up a lot of time and money to make photos look good, Photoshop skill included. There's no medium ground either - you just post really amazing cosplay photos or it looks tacky and amateur.

I think people have this idea that just taking photos in underwear and a wig is what is so easy. There is a lot of hidden costs and time that goes into making something just look good.
