Beleive it or not the victorian aesthetic first came around in the 80s thanks to the little house on the prairie show. It was even featured in vouge magazine. After the fashion faded out in the west, it lingered on in Japan. As fashion became more sexual, more girls rejected it and imbraced the more modest an innocent styles that was the precursor of lolita. Slowly it evolved into lolita as it is now, with a lot of help from Mana.
Also lolita was made popular by a man. Hardly a feminist movement.
