I'm really wanting to attempt a scooter Emil for PAX West but I'm not sure how to go about it.

My first thing is I want to get a mobile base to build around just so that I can move the damn thing, so I'm planning to get an elderly walker big enough to support the structure, then attach actual wheels as displayed for both accuracy and possible mobility.
But beyond that I'm fairly lost on how to actually uh, build it. I'm thinking that sheet metal will be too heavy both literally and work wise ( oxidizing, shaping, possible welding? ) yet I don't know alternatives besides bleh, cardboard or Styrofoam.

Does anyone have an idea of how to go about this? Or even just advice you'd have from building things similar? I would appreciate it a lot.

My 9S Meow House cosplay arrived today! It came with the jacket, shorts, fully opaque visor (made with the same material as the jacket), bag, choker, gloves and stirrup-style knee high socks.

The jacket and shorts are made out of wool, with velvet in all the appropriate places. It's actually not as thin as I expected. Size S fits me well, and I'm an Aus size 6. I need to find some way to stop the buttons from turning, but I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality of the jacket.

The backpack is made from some thinish olive coloured PU material. Although it's stiff, it crumples and creases easily. The overall quality is pretty 'meh'.

I found the gloves to be the most disappointing thing from this cosplay. They're non-stretchy, stiff, bulky and way too big for my hands and fingers so they bunch up awkwardly when I flex my hand. I'm either going to have to alter them extensively or remake them completely.

Feel free to ask more questions, I'm not really good that this descriptive stuff. I also have a wig and shoes that I bought from different sellers that I haven't really gotten around to opening yet, will post pictures when I have more time

I actually just installed all mine today! I have an upside-down invisible zipper going from the armpit to the edge of the bodice and a small lightweight separating zipper up the back of the collar and bodice. This is because I plan to have the chest and back details snap in so getting into it is easier.

At the moment I'm considering making the top half one piece, the skirt another that will attach with hooks and eyes, and I think I'll sew the white briefs into the skirt to hold them up. Sock glue works well, but hand sewing to sturdy ballet tights you'll probably be wearing anyway is a good idea. As for the briefs, I'd just put a new elastic waistband around the top so you don't have to remove the entire skirt when going to the bathroom, and it won't get in the way of the hooks and eyes there. I've seen some people use black velcro for the skirt closure so it's more hidden than hooks and eyes. If you're still having problems with it staying up, maybe do velcro or snaps around the edge of the brief.

I'm considering getting around the whole issue of fitting and getting out of the dress by just using stretch velvet, but I don't want to compensate by having weird looking embroidery or using fabric paint. The ones I've seen using stretch velvet look a lot better fitting in my opinion, but I also already have a trove of vintage black non-stretch. Sorry for the blog, just not sure of which direction to go in.

I'm not terribly worried about them buckling, since the bodice is pretty fitted on its own and I stabilized the parts that would give me issues. Hopefully when I put the panels in they shouldn't have much stress on them and should sit fine, but I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I would definitely recommend sewing your stockings to tights, it will make your life a LOT easier. #1 pet peeve for me is my socks falling down every couple of minutes at cons.

So my sword arrived, for £15 or whatever the price was before shipping, it's not bad. It's huge, and a bit heavier than I expected. I was under the illusion that the handle was detachable/ re- attachable so that I could store it in two pieces, but nope, they give you a hot glue stick to put it together. I don't trust the hot glue so I'll do something else. The biggest disappointment is the paint job, it's really sloppy in places, but funnily enough I had a silver sharpie marker that matches perfectly, so for someone like me who's never really had any experience with props and couldn't have done any better if I tried, it was fine. Not the same anon, but I've ordered that exact sword and i'll tell you my thoughts. You will not be able to attach the sword with hot glue. The handle of the sword extends into the blade a little, and the hilt is a separate piece (a total of three pieces). There is no way to securely attach the handle to the blade without drilling holes in it and inserting bolts. Shipping will cost you at least $50, likely more. I bought two swords, and they had to be shipped separately from the rest of my order due to their size (I use the zhongshan forwarding service on taobao). The two swords together cost $137 to ship. However, china has recently changed their export laws, and the forwarding service on taobao will no longer ship swords and other replica weapons. Many SS will not either, and as of June, the only SS I know that will ship it is Yoybuy.

I used Loctite Epoxy Quickset to glue my sword together and it feels sturdy. Just let it set for 24 hours.

I originally tried E6000 adhesive but it did not hold the handle together.

Felt is dirt cheep, layering an lining velvet with crushed silk to get the same stiffness and volume is really really expensive.

Also, felt as a fabric doesnt have a directionality to it like silk/velvet/sateen. You dont have to align the pieces with the weave to get proper seams.

I'll post pictures but if you're a small size I'd recommend it if you want something cheap. I can tell they didn't want to start over on the neck part because the way they finished the seam is really bulky and makes it impossible to close. Better make your own blindfold or buy one though.
