Thus Day 1 and Day 2
Cons with more demand or a longer weekend will usually add another full Day 3.

Day 0 is the day before Day 1, most cons use this just for badge pickup and maybe a gaming or video room being open. Day 0 allows people to settle in to hotels and not waste any time on Day 1 for badge pickup.


AX has gotten so large they've expanded their badge pickups beyond Day 0 to Day -1 (Thursday) in this case.

It makes no sense that they'd include the cosplay gathering list through the schedule every other year before this one, but NOT this year. If it was something out of their hands, how come they had it last year? And the year before?

I know you can go to the map and tap around to see rooms and booths and whatnot. But that still kinda makes you try to guess where everything is. Like let's say you're looking for the Sailor Moon screening. It says "video 2" on the schedule. Ok so you go to the map and...well where's video 2 at? You have to figure out where the room is and then navigate. The app they used last year was just easier because you could go to the event, open the event, tap on "video 2" or whatever and it'll automatically show you where to go. There's no guesswork involved.

That being said it looks like they added the navigation feature on day 0 for some of the events. Not all of them, but some of them. I'm hoping they're just slowly adding it to everything and by the time expo hits it'll be fully updated.

The gatherings are fan organized, they can't add them before people set them up so they're likely waiting until the spreadsheet is filled out more. The gathering sites are marked on the map so they're probably planning to add them in.

For valet parking it depends, does the attendant have to walk a block or two, or is the parking in the basement. in any case just hand it to the attendant who fetches or parks your car. A good tip for valet is 5 bucks. Or if you want preferential treatment the whole time you're at the hotel, give like 15/20 bucks and the attendant will pretty much do your bidding.

You're generous if you give $10 bucks just for pillows, a few dollars would have been fine for that. Remember that the staff who cleaned your room on sat, might not be the one who cleans on mon. So if you guys are pooling a tip pile at the end of your stay, whoever is cleaning on that day pockets everything. I say tip more on the days you guys are there than when you guys leave. It is easier to clean an empty room than an occupied one with like clothes, wigs, bags and goodies everywhere.

I went later in the day to pick up my pass at day 0 last year and it only took me like 10 minutes to get it. I had friends who went much earlier in the day and i believe they said they waited like less than an hour.

(pic related) sometimes me and my friends would line up at the back of convention center. when you go into those doors, the exhibit hall entrance is right there.
lots of people still line up there but its nowhere as crowded as lining up at the front.

and yeah, ive lined up at the W lobby entrance before. again. not as bad but you will still run into a long line.

but just like what that other anon pointed out. not all lines get in at the same time because poor communications with the staff. ive gotten in super early lining up in the back or super late because the guy watching the line kept saying they havent even let people in yet even though the flood gates at the main lobby has been open for a good 10 minutes.

so yeah, its still a gamble no matter what. it kinda just comes down to if you wanna be grouped up like sardines trying to get in or having more space around you.

All entries are slow as fuck because of bag check, especially on the first day when the guards don't know what they are doing. I hope this time they don't make us get rid of food, because that's not AX's policy. However, the red shirts are not AX people, they are venue staff, and the usual rules of this venue is that no food is allowed. Last year they didn't start letting food in until the third day. I hid the food under a sweatshirt.

After the first day, the bag checks get more lazy, they just take a quick glance and don't rummage in your bag. So it's usually only the first day with slow lines at the entrance.

they sell some food/drinks but honestly i wouldn't recommend it because the line can take a while and you can miss the entire session that you're paying for. maidreaming will do one dance and you can buy some merch from them and get autographs. the ax maids will split up and do stuff at the tables like games and talk to you and shit. tables have a bunch of people so it's not like you/your small group get your own table with your own personal maid. maids will do a few dances.
