Obligatory-
Who is going, what are you cosplaying as, did you book a room in time? [I didn't! :(]

Want to do a photo shoot meet-up, meet-up in general, or just weeb out together?

Let's chat it up!!~
Only 4 days left if you're an early bird like me!

>> No.9595653

I'm just attending for one day. Anime Fest really doesn't have enough programming for me to warrant going the whole weekend, plus it's only $50 for a Friday only pass so that's not bad at all. Cheaper than a concert, that's for sure.

I may go all day Thursday and the morning/afternoon of Friday with some friends from work. It's a 1.5 hour drive from my place and I have work that weekend so no room for me. I didn't take off work, so I decided to just leave it up to fate as to whether I attend or not. No cosplays planned, but I kind of want to dress up as a generic seifuku-wearing schoolgirl. I just get a feeling I might be creepy as I'm a 23 year old (at least I have a baby face?).

Creepy 'cause I'm a 23 year old woman. Once you're out of high school, your seifuku days are over (unless you want to look like you have a schoolgirl fetish...). The only time I can think of that it might be appropriate to wear one would be when cosplaying a specific character.

People we're wasting time by having long conversations with the YOI guests and getting sketches done. It slowed things down significantly. The other Japanese guests were largely ignored. Everyone wanted YOI.

They also let people line up super early when they had been telling everyone most of the morning they would not allow people to line up until 15 mins till the scheduled time.

And if course people would cut in line, but there weren't enough volunteers to keep watch.

I don't blame the volunteers, but the people in charge who came up with the shitty plan to begin with.

Yikes. I read on twitter about people lining up 4 hours prior, and conflicting info about shikishi. (official twitter says it's ok, but apparently onsite staff said they aren't?)

The past times I got autographs at Afest, I felt awkward about passing on certain guests I didn't know and just got my program book signed. I don't know of a good solution but I'd imagine the waiting issue would be less of a clusterfuck if they just split up the sessions into different time slots or in this case, just do dedicated YOI signing sessions.

Are they still doing the thing where they send people who attended the prior panel to the front of the autograph line?

There is no excuse for badly managed lines. Look at Wizord Word Comic Cons. I've been to several of their shows and the lines are well managed. They need staff that is firm and willing to take action. With a pushover staff nothing gets accomplished. I'm not blaming the staff I just think they should check volunteers and place them in areas of their strengths. Don't make shy girl be on line control. Simple as that. There are forms people fill out to volunteer and they ask for experience; get a good team. People wait for hours to get stuff from celebs. The wait time isn't the issue, it's how you manage the lines.

>sorry if I'm phoning it in if/when you talk to me

She did seem a little pre-occupied when I stopped by on Saturday, and she didn't come until sometime after lunch, but that might have had something to do with the fact that she actually came in cosplay (thought it might be rude to take a picture); I didn't even recognize her at first.

Pink glasses girl? I saw that too.

I don't think they know eachother, they both acted like awkward middle schoolers with crushes around eachother though. I think she was just a big fan and he thought she was cute and approachable.

I saw the girl with this service dog and was extremely concerned as were the friends in my group. The dog was taller but was WAY too thin and looked severely underfed. It was in the dealers room on Saturday.

I didn't do any of the autographs but I did see that the custom drawing Kubo did of Yuri was auctioned off for a whopping $6,900.

There was also a girl who flew in from Japan that was getting hate and vague tweeted on twitter because she had been able to get an autograph each day. The immaturity of american fans who think theyre entitled for one or that just because this girl already had 1 she was awful for getting another when they couldnt even manage 1. Instead they should have asked her when she was lining up and followed her lead because obviously she was doing it right.

As for the rest of the con it was pretty fun. But i spent most of it feeling like i was reliving the old A-kon with the identical setups.

LM.C concert was great side note. I didnt get an autograph but I was tired af at the end. Maya kept ushering for more and more screaming and chanting despite the constant screaming and chanting. Not to mention some stupid kid dressed in a school uniform made her way to the left side box seat with her friends and was jumping and shaking so much over the edge for his attention that she was a hair away from falling over.

There was a lot of misdirected anger all around, but being pissed someone managed to get an autograph each day when the demand was so insane and it was such a luck of the draw situation doesn't seem that outrageous.

There's video circulating of a staff member basically saying they only had time for 60 autographs each day.

Hello.

I think I'm the girl who you two are talking about, I just wanted to say I don't know him to stop rumors.

It's true I did get several chances where he talked to me outside of the autograph sessions but each time was brief due to the fact I was very nervous to speak to him and I wasn't entirely sure why he was approaching me.

I really think starting rumors about him like that is a bad idea and I really respect LM.C so I'm clearing it up.

Hey annon, it's ok. I once went to a comic con an a high profile guest gave me a hug and I ran into him again towards his autograph signings. A group of girls saw and approached me asking if I was close with said famous actor. I was trying to explain he was the one who gave me extra attention and I was flattered but that's all it was. People take things way out proportion. And my guess is they are just jealous or butthurt they didn't get attention

The cosplay director was horrible yet again this year. Rude and short with everyone with only her small click of friends to run everything.

I wasnt there for YOI so I felt completely left out this year. If you weren't attending for that then it was just a crowded badly run con.

The rave usually is pretty good. Me and my friends just left this year. The guys running it were weeb cringe.

Except that didn't happen and was a rumour made up by a shit poster on Twitter who wasn't even at the con (whom apparently had someone DM her that "somebody" cut in line). The shit poster later retracted what they said cause it was confirmed to be false.

I think overall, besides bullshit organisation, the con was really good. I say this as someone who travelled internationally (and there were more than a few people who came all the way from Canada, Mexico, Japan, China, England, Australia, etc) that we were prepared from Day 0 for things to be crazy.

I feel like most of the people who were disappointed were con goers who also underestimated the YOI pull and simply didn't prioritise the official YOI staff events.

I managed to get an autograph on the first day and decent seating for every official panel just by repeatedly asking staff what the rules were and what their plan was. I think the problem lay in most people taking rumours at base value and not confirming information with official staff re:organisation or simply just being entitled and thinking that they could simply buy a badge, show up and get anything their heart desired.

Ultimately with such a large amount of guests there are going to be people disappointed, and the staff definitely should have been more prepared; on the first day in autograph line one of the volunteers said they had not anticipated such a high demand which basically tipped off how ridiculously unprepared they were for YOI fans.

tl;dr I think the con was an overall positive experience for most people who prepared accordingly.

Which entry we're you? I'm guessing you're mad you didn't win. The director was polite to me and those around me.

I entered and didn't win. Sure it sucks but that's the judges choice. It's subjective. Notice how the grand prize went to a group from the same series all the judges were wearing? It happens.

I'm going to use just Sunday as an example of how doing exactly what you did, didn't help anyone.

>Arrived 4 hours before autographs are supposed to start
>Told by staff member at autograph area to stand near the tables in the front
>Told by staff member there that we are to be in this area
>when asked if we could sit at the tables, they told us they didn't know but they knew we had to be in this little area
>confirmed this multiple times with different staff members, some even said not to sit at the tables at all
>time comes for them to start getting people ready
>Guy in charge of autographs now says we were supposed to be sitting at the tables the whole time

Attendees had no chance, it was complete luck of whether you talked to the right staff or not. It's not the normal staff at fault, they just did what they were told. It was the head organizers that couldn't lead them or get proper instructions out.

Also, on the first day the YOI staff had done either as much or more autographs than Saturday and Sunday combined, you probably wouldn't have gotten yours if they had done the same limit cap.

The staff of Tatami Galaxy premiere their movie in a room with no screen in the middle.
Very little attendance and with the two screens being left and right it was hard to even see the subs.

Whoever thought it was a great idea to set up the room that way needs to be shot. It's felt like every guest that wasn't yuri on ice was treated like shit. Great movie however, would buy blu-ray.

the feedback panel was a joke btw. they obviously did not want to hear ANYTHING about the you debacle and only took two questions about it and near the end of the panel they were like "any questions not about yuri on ice?" and just wanted to wash their hands of it.

they also said that they don't blame anyone for the mess despite the fact that board members blamed everyone from the creators to the fans to the cops when talking to upset fans.

the woman crying on sunday and needed to be comforted by people because people weren't nice to her and called out the shitty organization was not very fond of me. if you cannot handle stress or deal with upset people, you shouldn't have anything to do with running a con.

anyways, i wasted around $2k just to deal with bullshit. everyone who had a good time probably wasn't there for the yoi guests and i'm glad u had a great time.

I'm not trying to be salty, but I honestly expected a lot more.

Last year, the Japanese guests of honour attended the cosplay contest. The VA for Sailor Moon got cosplayers dressed as SM up on stage with her. The other guests chose their favorites from series they worked on. There was singing - both from the guests and the ani-idol winners.

This year was strictly the cosplay contest with no extras. We had a good time, but last year, we had a *great* time.

The winners were a couple dressed from FF14.

My overall review for the con?
I may go back to ghost but I will never pay for anything at that convention again. I wasn't there for yuri on ice and felt like no one even tried to put on a good convention.

I can vouch about the cosplay director. She is not a nice person and I have seen how she feels about cosplayers first hand. It has been a shady weird contest for years. Too many rules not enough entries. Judges are bestie only. Would love to see diverse new cosplay guests and judges and maybe better prizes.
(Last year we just got pins that were given to all staff members. I didnt care but it was lazy.)

This con was an embarrassment.
Having volunteered for a couple of years at Otakon and AnimeBoston, I couldn't believe the cluelessness of staffers and volunteers alike. This convention is 25 years old, why is it so miserably run? How can you try to coordinate an event with thousands of people and be too much of a pussy to yell through a megaphone to address a crowd? The Artist's Alley was excellent and everything else was deeply and profoundly mediocre.

the amount of normie tourists and retards playing rap on portable speakers hit an all time high this year.

I'd say it was worse than the first year aKon moved to the meme art hotel.

Like holy fuck, there were raving hordes of niggas/cholo looking people just being loud and faggy the whole time, and out of those groups I'd say one or 2 out of 6 of their members had visibly purchased a pass.
Had two homeless fuckers come up and bug the two cosplaying girls I was hanging with, too. Just about the creepiest way of acting I've seen in real life.

I think cons in north texas are quickly approaching an overall level of shittiness I don't want to cope with. I'd rather walk through hobo city near san japan before dealing with all the atmospheric interruptions at AFest again
