My story (im not good at green text):

-Was one of the first followers of a cosplayer that blew up recently.
-Saw her soar in followers, really liked her cosplays.
-Find out she lives in my city, and is going to a nearby con.
-I also happen to be going to said con.
-I feel a bit excited, hoping to say hi and maybe get an autograph or picture.
-I see her in a crowd of people talking it up.
-I get introduced to her.
-She sees me, and as i say "im a big fan", she gives me a surprised look, then says she has to go somewhere for a second.
-Literally goes over a few steps to the left.
-I feel like shit, but the con was decent.
-I find out later shes kind of a drama queen who tries to climb the social ladder of cosplay and otherwise.
-She complains about people oversexualizing her, and the haters.
-Ive come to realize that all cosplayers let the massive group of followers go to their heads.
-I stopped following her, and decided ill just be a faggot elsewhere.

The fact that everyone on my Instagram feed is begging for donations and then posting their lineups for their 80 summer conventions with new lineups each time. I work full time and still have had to say "no" to conventions I could've squeaked out money for because I'd rather save and be able to not panic at the convention that my account is in the negatives.

Also, the fact that there's so many underage people meshing with actual bonafide adults. I know of 14 year olds that are friends with 28 year olds because "tee hee we both cosplay from the same anime!" as if that's not the creepiest fucking shit ever.

I will honestly never get those certain cosplayers who absolutely want to become known or famous. I thought cosplay was for fun, not a competition of who gets more likes. Yes ofcourse, there are cosplayers who are known because people love their skills in crafting. But your goals shouldn't be "i want to be famous", your goal should be "i am proud of what i have made and how hard i worked on it.". This is the part that disappoints me in the cosplay community...

What bugs me the most is that a lot of these women were non-egotistic, and now that theyre "cosfamous" theyre bitchy and uppity. My only solace is that while yes they get maybe at most $1-2 thousand a month on patreon, its not actually that amazing, do you know how much rent, food etc cost? Nigguh that shits expensive. Plus theyre aging, so only a matter of time til theyre flavour of the month.

IQ tests are bullshit as they aren't designed to accurately measure anyone's intelligence. It was designed as a graduation test. Also, since one's IQ can change, there's no purpose in measuring it. Many IQ tests also contain information only relevant to rich white people, making it biased.

Black people are also not anymore prone to violence than anyone else. Have you ever actually met a black person? Also, black people tend to be poorer on average and it's been proven time and time again that financial hardships and disparities breed crime, not someone's race. It's also been shown that black people are punished more harshly for committing the same crimes as their white counterparts. This is incredibly notable in drug cases where even though white people are more likely to participate in recreational drug use, black people are more likely to be arrested for it. I'm not gonna get into things like three strikes and not hiring felons as that causes another issue entirely.

I'm in the sociology/education field, the IQ test (remember, there are various IQ tests) may be biased just like any other test. The study that anon is probably referencing in 'blacks have lower IQ' is The Bell Curve (and if not, the study they used probably used the same faulty analysis that's the basis for that book), which has been debunked by academics but was popular at the time of its publication with non-academics.

Bias is always a problem with formulating tests. If you ask a problem-solving test saying, "How long does it take a yacht to travel distance X to Y?" and low SES (socioeconomic status) test takers have either don't know what a 'yacht' is or have never seen it spelled and don't know what the word refers to, they may get the question wrong for a reason that has nothing to do with their problem solving ability. Furthermore, race isn't real in any meaningful biological sense. We think we can identify people who are black based on what they look like, but someone you identify as a black person may be more genetically similar to a white person than another black person. If you argue that genetic similarity is proven by similar phenotypes, we might as well organize people into groups based on hair color or whether or not their ear lobes are connected or height. Imagine trying to find universal biological agreement on what constitutes the categories of 'white,' 'black,' 'Asian' etc in a way that everyone can fit neatly into a category. If you understand why that's impossible, you understand why race essentialism is nonsense. Differences among races in, say, performance on an IQ test are largely the result of social conditions. I'm not a cosplayer. I'm just a dude in his late 20s who had an animu phase and whose friends and girlfriends were largely cosplayers or people dating cosplayers. I always thought about how cool it would be to try my best at some of my favorite characters like Jet Black or Auron, but I'm a normie from a normie family who would have justifiably considered it weird and never got around to actually going to a con.

I feel the same way. I have an acquaintance who has had multiple doctors tell them to lose weight immediately and they refuse to listen. The sad thing is that if they won't listen to a licensed health professional then they aren't going to listen to anyone else. They have to either figure it out on their own or suffer the repercussions. The only way that can happen is that if by some stroke of luck, one of your cosplay got featured by big name website or company.

Even then, it would have to be featured on consistent level (more than just 1 week) to jump from 1K to 100K.

In addition, region matters but in double-edged sword way. There are regions that like your stuff for some shady business regions. Anytime you have followers that are mostly from Malaysia or Bangladesh (to name a few), most of them may be follow bots or clickfarm scheme.

Nope, I didn't get featured anywhere, and my followers are mainly from the US, Singapore, and Japan. I just always hit the top of the jfashion tag or cosplay tag whenever I post, which is pretty easy if you get at least 2k likes per photo. Followers are exponential as long as you post consistently. It took me 9 months to go from 1k to 20k, but the same amount of time to go from 20k to 100k.

If you're actually "attractive" ("look anime") and stick to cosplaying either waifu or husbando of the month you'll definitely grow fast, more so if you give fanservice. This is why you see people rushing to cosplay whatever is new and popular, even if they know nothing or don't care much for the series/character, and/or why people do lewd cosplays of them.
