My story (im not good at green text):

-Was one of the first followers of a cosplayer that blew up recently.
-Saw her soar in followers, really liked her cosplays.
-Find out she lives in my city, and is going to a nearby con.
-I also happen to be going to said con.
-I feel a bit excited, hoping to say hi and maybe get an autograph or picture.
-I see her in a crowd of people talking it up.
-I get introduced to her.
-She sees me, and as i say "im a big fan", she gives me a surprised look, then says she has to go somewhere for a second.
-Literally goes over a few steps to the left.
-I feel like shit, but the con was decent.
-I find out later shes kind of a drama queen who tries to climb the social ladder of cosplay and otherwise.
-She complains about people oversexualizing her, and the haters.
-Ive come to realize that all cosplayers let the massive group of followers go to their heads.
-I stopped following her, and decided ill just be a faggot elsewhere.

I work full time and still have had to say "no" to conventions I could've squeaked out money for because I'd rather save and be able to not panic at the convention that my account is in the negatives.

Also, the fact that there's so many underage people meshing with actual bonafide adults. I know of 14 year olds that are friends with 28 year olds because "tee hee we both cosplay from the same anime!" as if that's not the creepiest fucking shit ever.

I will honestly never get those certain cosplayers who absolutely want to become known or famous. I thought cosplay was for fun, not a competition of who gets more likes. Yes ofcourse, there are cosplayers who are known because people love their skills in crafting. But your goals shouldn't be "i want to be famous", your goal should be "i am proud of what i have made and how hard i worked on it.". This is the part that disappoints me in the cosplay community...

Talking with feminist cosplay accquantance
>Overly sexualized video game/anime characters give girls negative body images
>Women accurately cosplaying those characters support the patriarchy
>Obese cosplayers promote positive body image
>Obese cosplayers doing sexy versions of non-sexualized characters is empowering
So as a male, I'm only supposed to pay attention the obese and ugly cosplayers, not the thin and attractive ones? Sounds like you need to hit the gym.
>REEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
>White people cosplaying POC is cultural appropriation
>POC cosplaying white characters is empowering
So white people are only supposed to cosplay white people, but POC can cosplay anything they want?
>REEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
>Cosplay is a creative art
>Crossplay/AUs/Closet Cosplay is just as good as a faithful recreation
>Wigs aren't mandatory and casual cosplay works too because they don't where their iconic outfits all the time
So basically people can do whatever they want and be completely unrecognizable as the character they're supposed to be, just throw on some clothes from their closet that they think a character might wear on laundry day, and that's just as good as someone who's painstakingly recreated every small detail of the character?
>REEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

It's sad how many people actually agree with these dumb opinions.

There were counter protests of 3.8k to our 26 protests (26 were protesting against ILLEGAL immigration), turned nasty, it ended up a protest against Free Speech when the 26 were violently and intimidatingly removed. Dont ever let them take away your Trump, its the only thing they dont have, they took media away, cons, news, everything, but not the Trump. I find women like Jessica Nigri, Momokun, Seviria, Lisalouwho, and say Danielle Beaulieu kinda ruin it all. They act nice, and try to deny their obvious cash whoring, which is fine if they just admitted it, but no. They go around and are bullies and fake as fuck outside the community, as well as in it but through other people. Ive heard of these cosplayers completely shitting on other women, or getting jealous over other women's cosplay or looks. I mean hell, Lisalouwho bullied a chick into near suicide.

This is bait, but I'll bite.

IQ tests are bullshit as they aren't designed to accurately measure anyone's intelligence. It was designed as a graduation test. Also, since one's IQ can change, there's no purpose in measuring it. Many IQ tests also contain information only relevant to rich white people, making it biased.

Black people are also not anymore prone to violence than anyone else. Have you ever actually met a black person? Also, black people tend to be poorer on average and it's been proven time and time again that financial hardships and disparities breed crime, not someone's race. It's also been shown that black people are punished more harshly for committing the same crimes as their white counterparts. This is incredibly notable in drug cases where even though white people are more likely to participate in recreational drug use, black people are more likely to be arrested for it. I'm not gonna get into things like three strikes and not hiring felons as that causes another issue entirely.

I'm in the sociology/education field, the IQ test (remember, there are various IQ tests) may be biased just like any other test. The study that anon is probably referencing in 'blacks have lower IQ' is The Bell Curve (and if not, the study they used probably used the same faulty analysis that's the basis for that book), which has been debunked by academics but was popular at the time of its publication with non-academics.

Bias is always a problem with formulating tests. If you ask a problem-solving test saying, "How long does it take a yacht to travel distance X to Y?" and low SES (socioeconomic status) test takers have either don't know what a 'yacht' is or have never seen it spelled and don't know what the word refers to, they may get the question wrong for a reason that has nothing to do with their problem solving ability. Just one example.

Furthermore, race isn't real in any meaningful biological sense. We think we can identify people who are black based on what they look like, but someone you identify as a black person may be more genetically similar to a white person than another black person. If you argue that genetic similarity is proven by similar phenotypes, we might as well organize people into groups based on hair color or whether or not their ear lobes are connected or height. Imagine trying to find universal biological agreement on what constitutes the categories of 'white,' 'black,' 'Asian' etc in a way that everyone can fit neatly into a category. If you understand why that's impossible, you understand why race essentialism is nonsense. Differences among races in, say, performance on an IQ test are largely the result of social conditions. Just like a student's school performance is tied closely to a student's SES more than other factors, racial differences are a result of historical and present conditions based on our belief that race matters.

I'm not a cosplayer. I'm just a dude in his late 20s who had an animu phase and whose friends and girlfriends were largely cosplayers or people dating cosplayers. I always thought about how cool it would be to try my best at some of my favorite characters like Jet Black or Auron, but I'm a normie from a normie family who would have justifiably considered it weird and never got around to actually going to a con.

I used to respect the early 2000s scene as an interesting way for introverts or folks with low esteem to build on their perceived personality flaws through ritualistic social interaction in a controlled, scheduled setting. I had hopes that this envirobment would foster self confidence and courage for these off kilter kids as their adult lives approached.

But it doesn't seem to have turned out like that at all. I bet most of you guys are in my age group, mid to late 20s, that you're chasing glory days of when it was legitimately a hobbyist's hobby. The ride's over, you've gotta let go. You're hanging out with little kids and attention whores who literally sell sex in the form of art, and Marxist indoctrinated morons who spew identity politics.

I respect the hobby and scene for what it was, but man it's time to let go.

>Now, if we could deal with female on male rape
A huge issue there lies in the teachings of feminism and sociology. Both have become heavily rooted in marxist theory in modern years, where every aspect of a person is a caste/class system and every action comes from that.
In the case of rape, for them, it is the "more powerful class" (men) oppressing the "lower class". (Women).
Its seen as an act of oppression rather than an act of violence and the base crime that it is.
Because they see women as the "oppressed class", it is seen as impossible for a woman to rape a man due to their perceived power structure.
When you bring intersectionalism into it, it becomes ever more convoluted and bullshit, and now the narrative is being pushed by some who use this class system that someone who is black cannot rape someone who is white.

It's not rooted in feminism at all. Original rape laws, at least in the US, only applied to women not because of a power imbalance, but because women were viewed as property. Women were often given away as wives in puritanical America and a woman who had sex, consensual or otherwise, would be considered "used goods." It doesn't help that there was a deep misunderstanding of how sex worked for years due to America's terrible sex education, so many people think "erection equates to consent" and that men always want sex. Early rape laws existed long before feminism was a significant movement and men being raped was an issue long before modern times.

Mary P Koss, a noted feminist who Obama invited to the white house, has espoused exactly the rhetoric I mentioned.
She is a highly influential person within feminism and insists the women cannot rape men.
I have dealt with feminists personally who believe the "rape=power+privileged".
No where did I shit on a group. I simply stated what I have seen that they believe.
And if feminists want to help men?
Maybe they shouldn't send bomb threats to men's abuse shelters.
Maybe they shouldn't pull fire alarms forcing men discussing men's issues to have to leave.
Maybe they shouldn't have heavily boycotted a movie that brought to light a lot of the issues men face.
Don't blame me for judging modern feminism based on the actions of modern feminism.
Fix the shit within your own ideology and then maybe I'll stop seeing them negatively.
Feminists don't want to help men. They don't want to help women like me either.
I've received dozens of rape threats from feminists over not being a feminist or supporting gamergate when it was a thing.
And what they told to actual rape victims who share my views? They tell them oh well and that they don't deserve help
tl;dr Modern feminism is shit and has no one to blame but themselves.

Patriarchy model is such bullshit. It completely ignores the history of oppression of women in fashion and the fight against it, and it also offers no way to improvement. There is no method offered for defeating the "patriarchy", it is just used as a way to shut down discussion about men's oppression by claiming it will disappear if we just care more about women, ignoring that the fight agains the patriarchy has made no progress or shown any method for making progress, while what HAS shown real results in a short time is fighting for equality and against specific oppression. Not some vague promise that if we get men to stop catcalling women, men will be allowed the same options in j-fashion as women in maybe a 100 years. While actually fighting against the fashion oppression would have real results because case specific fights have been fought and won befoe, and in much shorter time.

Anon, the "patriarchy" is the double edged blade men use to uphold their own societal norms. It doesn't go away because men use it to give structure to their lives and judge each other's worth.
Doing away with it means giving men a new paradigm to operate with, which won't happen because the past generations cling to it.

What I said was the core reason the "patriachy" isn't going away.
A large part of it is how men maintain order and standing among each other; cutting it out means finding a different way for guys to sort themselves.
Helping men help themselves is a part of it, and unless you are taking the fringe movement for the main voice (you are), it is already a known thing.

On the surface it's all about sex but I don't think the Patreon trap is fulfilling the betas' sex needs at all.

Anything "body positive"

Look, I'm sorry. I know it sucks when people are mean to you, and you have my sympathy, but you can not--and should not--just decide that being fat is beautiful now. It is objectively a negative thing to be.
If you're okay with your body, fine. You can be any way you want to be, but... don't push this "fat pride" nonsense out in public where everyone else has to see it.
Just go on a diet if you're fat! It's not that hard!

It's especially irritating, because this hugbox SJW bullshit leads to this scenario where people with things they genuinely can't change with effort, like disabilities and things, are not given the genuine props they deserve for owning and overcoming shortcomings they were burdened with.

We should all be giving credit to no-legs spiderman, not hambeast hamtaro.

The only way that can happen is that if by some stroke of luck, one of your cosplay got featured by big name website or company.

Even then, it would have to be featured on consistent level (more than just 1 week) to jump from 1K to 100K.

In addition, region matters but in double-edged sword way. There are regions that like your stuff for some shady business regions. Anytime you have followers that are mostly from Malaysia or Bangladesh (to name a few), most of them may be follow bots or clickfarm scheme.

my posts were only to show that there sometimes is a reason people buy some followers, because the algorithms actively work against anyone who doesn't already have a decent number of followers
I don't know what that one girl bragging about going from 1k to 100k was posting for, 1k is already a lot of followers

Ive noticed its all terrible if anything sexualizing happens to a woman at a con, but men who are fit are treated like meat on a stick there, it doesnt matter if 50 chicks (fat or not) feel you up, or harrass you to strip or kiss.

Hey thats a fair point, I did not know about the algorithm. Also yeah im like 90% sure that femanon is Severia herself.

that particular chain of comments was talking about instagram, which does have a current thread that's literally only talking about how to get more followers. the anon didn't say anything about what they posted either, so it's not really criticism, just projection.

>>9646574
1k is nothing lmao, you get the same amount of reach with 1k as you do with 100

anon, you really need to get over your obsession with this girl. the stats don't even match up to her account.

Yeah, but under 100, even under 10 basically means you're gonna get fucked by the algorithms and flagged as a bot

Isnt fb a major source of projection for cosplayers, or has instagram outshined it?

>> No.9646679

I think if you ignore the media's portrayl of cosplayers, and look at the actual ones, you'll find that theyre not all Momokuns or Jessica Nigris. There are some normal and decent people.

>> No.9646709

>>9646679
That depends. In LA area, a lot of cosplayers are just like nigri and momokun or tries hard to be like them. Something about LA cosplay scene here drives people desperate and outright insane

Reading this makes me realize my group of "Friends" is exactly like this with most things irl.
I need to find new friends but it's hard when you're not super social and live in a small town.

Either move to a new place, or be more social. I know its easier said than done, but you'd be surprised by the amount of great people you'll meet. I know it sucks adjusting and leaving behind friends who arent really all that great, it takes time trying to adjust to a new circle when youre already used to a certain group of people.

Oh? Well I suppose im wrong then about L.A (and im sure other places), but what I am trying to say is that if you look past the shitty ones, there are plenty of normal, actually fun loving and cool cosplayers.

Idk about Tumblr but I don't think that's the case for Instagram. In fact if you have too many bot followers wouldn't that make things worse? You need to have the likes per post to support your number of followers or IG might punish you. (Unconfirmed theory)

>>9645433
It's taken me five weeks to double followers ;-; (I'm still under 1000 though) but I do agree that once you get more you slowly start to accelerate.

>>9645228

I don't know how anon did it but here's what I know.

If you're actually "attractive" ("look anime") and stick to cosplaying either waifu or husbando of the month you'll definitely grow fast, more so if you give fanservice. This is why you see people rushing to cosplay whatever is new and popular, even if they know nothing or don't care much for the series/character, and/or why people do lewd cosplays of them.

You're likely only to get featured if you're NOT that well known if you
>are friends with someone well known and get featured with them
>make a REALLY incredibly flashy cosplay of something well known, e.g. when it first came out, a fully functional DJ Sona skin would have gone viral
>are an incredibly close cosplay lookalike to a well-known character
>go viral by luck for a meme
>hop on a bandwagon (e.g. "2012 - 2017 glow up")

Basically, cosplay and do what people like, not what YOU like, look good, and profit.

Some IG users also already had a big Tumblr following and redirected all their followers.

the anti-thesis of cosplay as whole

Exactly, and probably why the cosplay comm has become so disappointing to people.

>> No.9647290

>>9646799

I dunno, I see a lot of people cosplaying what they like, its just the attention whores and e-sluts that do the fan service stuff, then again hey maybe they actually like doing that, and that is their cosplay dream....then again fuck em. I am conflicted here.
