I'm actually pretty bummed about this decision because I got to interact with the Red Skull in question while at rccc and he and his group were amazing. He sounded very put out when drug away by another photographer to claims of "these guys want in-character photos of them fighting NAZIS!!" He gave a very weak "oh, okay..."

I mean, it's one thing to glorify nazi idealism, but I think it's entirely different when you're dressing up as a character who is basically designed to routinely get beaten down by an embodiment of America???

Anyway, I never saw this specific group do anything offensive, so it's a shame. They put a lot of work into their costumes.

My issue with just blanket banning them is where would you draw the line? Banning all cosplays with Nazi ties might include any Empire or First Order Star Wars cosplay. What about other ideologies like Communism? A lot more people have been traumatised by Communism than Nazism or Fascism, do we ban all reference to that? References to Colonialism can be an extremely sore topic for many people, so should we ban cosplays of Jane Porter? What about Japanese Imperialism in popular franchises like Kantai Collection? The nationalistic leanings of Shingeki no Kyojin's creator? Every country in the world has some kind of dark past, just about, so do we ban all Hetalia cosplays? And all of this varies hugely from place to place as well - what may offend people hugely in one area is not even an issue in another.

I just feel like if you know the cosplay you're wearing is bound to incite controversy in your area, that's your decision to face the associated consequences and perhaps you should consider whether it may be in bad taste. But it's not the con's place to outright ban anything unless it violates specific laws in that area (e.g. public decency laws, laws banning certain symbols etc).
